  • In this paper, we studied a accuracy for CT using elastic epoxy. According to industry development, the quality where also the electric material is various is demanded. Insulation material is widely used because epoxy is superior to electrical and mechanical property. Until now, the possibility where the crack will occur is high because epoxy used to electrical products had high hardness. If thermal expansion is different of two material, contraction of epoxy heavily transformed turns ratio of CT. Elastic epoxy absorbed in expansion and contraction of substance material by temperature. So we could design more exacted CT. We had elastic test of elastic epoxy and made CT using elastic epoxy. At the result, We obtained turns ratio of within 4% superior to existing CT.

  • A flow characteristics of automotive oil pump of gerotor type has been investigated numerically. For the simulation of gerotor that have different rotating velocity at inner rotor and outer rotor, node expansion and contraction method was adopted. ASI (Arbitrary Sliding Interfaces) method was also applied at interface between rotating gerotor and stationary volute. The present results showed good agreement with the experimental data.

  • Butterflies have been known to suck viscous liquids through a long, cylindrical proboscis using the large pressure difference formulated by the cyclic expansion and contraction of a muscular pump located inside their head. However, there are few studies on the liquid-feeding phenomena in a live butterfly, because it is hard to observe the internal morphological structures under in vivo condition. In this study, the dynamic motion of the pump system in a butterfly was in vivo visualized using synchrotron X-ray micro-imaging technique to analyze the liquid-feeding mechanism. The period of the liquid-feeding process is about 0.3sec. The expansion stage is about two times larger than the contraction stage in one cycle. The cyclic variation of pump volume generate large negative suction pressure and the pressure difference inside the long proboscis of a butterfly is estimated to be larger than 1atm.

  • The zone of expansion and contraction of arm surfaces was analyzed, the correlation between arm surface changes was studied, and ergonomic sleeve designs were presented in which the consideration of body surface changes is emphasized. Experiments were carried out which include 43 upper extremity segments, 21 motions and 35 female subjects. The major conclusions of the study are as follows : 1. As a sleeve drafting method, detailed measures should be applied on the base of the sensitivity of body surface changes. The range of arm surface changes can be divided into three zones : concentrated expansion zone, zone of little change, and contraction part. The maximum expansion zone was the upper part of elbow. 2. The correlations were higher in lengths than in circumferences. Arm lengths were mainly correlated with upper arms. The more detailed the arm surface was, the lower the correlations between surface changes were. So there was not a lot of relation between segment changes. Tendency of body surface changes depended on the anatomical structure of the upper extremity and the movements of arm muscles. 3. As an application of measures and ease, ergonomic sleeve designs weve presented in which arm surface changes were considered. Ergonomic sleeve designs are recommended for working clothes and sports wear.

  • The creep and consolidation behaviors of clays subjected to thermal cycles are of fundamental importance in the application of energy geostructures. This study aims to numerically investigate the physical mechanisms for the temperature-triggered volume change of saturated clays. A recently developed thermodynamic framework is used to derive the thermo-mechanical constitutive model for clays. Based on the model, a fully coupled thermo-hydro-mechanical (THM) finite element (FE) code is developed. Comparison with experimental observations shows that the proposed FE code can well reproduce the irreversible thermal contraction of normally consolidated and lightly overconsolidated clays, as well as the thermal expansion of heavily overconsolidated clays under drained heating. Simulations reveal that excess pore pressure may accumulate in clay samples under triaxial drained conditions due to low permeability and high heating rate, resulting in thermally induced primary consolidation. Results show that four major mechanisms contribute to the thermal volume change of clays: (i) the principle of thermal expansion, (ii) the decrease of effective stress due to the accumulation of excess pore pressure, (iii) the thermal creep, and (iv) the thermally induced primary consolidation. The former two mechanisms mainly contribute to the thermal expansion of heavily overconsolidated clays, whereas the latter two contribute to the noticeable thermal contraction of normally consolidated and lightly overconsolidated clays. Consideration of the four physical mechanisms is important for the settlement prediction of energy geostructures, especially in soft soils.

  • We investigate the decaying incompressible MHD turbulence by including the effect of the expansion and contraction of background medium. In such an environment, incompressible MHD turbulence has two kinds of time scale. One is the eddy turn-over time (teddy), the other is the expansion/contraction time (texp-cntr). The turbulence is expected to behave differently according to the relationship between the two time scales. For instance, for teddy < texp-cntr, the turbulence would be decay more or less as in a static medium. On the other hand, for teddy > texp-cntr, the effects of expansion and contraction would be dominant. We examine the properties of turbulence in these two regime cases. Based on it, we derive a scaling for the time evolution of flow velocity and magnetic field. (i) In the decay effect dominant case, the velocity and magnetic field scale as $\sqrt{{\rho}v}{\sim}a^{-3}$, $b{\sim}a^{-2.5}$(expanding media) and $\sqrt{{\rho}v}{\sim}a^{-2}$, $b{\sim}a^{-1.5}$(contracting media). The total energy and residual spectra follow the $E^T_k{\sim}k^{-5/3}$, $E^R_k{\sim}k^{-7.3}$ in the inertial range. (ii) In the expanding and contracting dominant case, the velocity and magnetic field scale as $\sqrt{{\rho}v}{\sim}a^{-2.5}$, $b{\sim}a^{-2}$ (expanding/contracting media). The Kinetic and magnetic energy spectra follow the $E^K_k{\sim}a^{-5}$, $E^M_k{\sim}a^{-4}$. We have confirmed that scaling of velocity and magnetic filed is almost the same from the analytic estimates and computational models

  • Most bridges have expansion joints to accommodate thermal expansion and contraction without inducing large forces in the bridges. To evaluate the effects of earthquake-induced at expansion joints of concrete bridges, the first part of this paper deals with a collinear impact between concrete segments, which have the same cross section but different lengths. Especially, impact force, momentum, strain energy and kinetic energy are formulated in mathematically. These results are then used in the second part of this paper to simulate a realistic yet simple analysis of seismic pounding in concrete bridges. Analysis of seismic pounding in idealized concrete bridges is carried out by using a simple lumped-mass model and rationally determined values of the coefficient of restitution and the duration of impact.
