  • It is important to detect the gene-gene interaction in GWAS(Genome-Wide Association Study). There are many studies about detecting gene-gene interaction. The one is Multifactor dimensionality reduction method. But MDR method is not applied continuous data and expanded multifactor dimensionality reduction(E-MDR) method is suggested. The goal of this study is to evaluate the power of E-MDR for identifying gene-gene interaction by simulation. Also we applied the method on the identify interaction e ects of single nucleotid polymorphisms(SNPs) responsible for economic traits in a Korean cattle population (real data).

  • In this paper, a novel correction method of red-eye effect is proposed. Conventional methods simply reduce red components in red-eye regions, not considering the expanded size of a pupil, thus the correction results can be unnatural. In the proposed method, an exemplar-based inpainting method is used for reducing the pupil region and filling the iris texture instead. Experimental results show that the proposed method is effective and its correction results look more natural than those of conventional methods.

  • Expandable steel pipe piles have been developed to ensure stability and reduce construction costs during underground floor remodeling and extension work. Expandable steel pipe piles are more economical and stable than micropiles. Extensible steel pipe pile is a method of improving the performance of steel pipes by expanding steel pipes underground. In this paper, the changes in buckling strength according to the shape of steel pipes in an extended steel pipe pile were identified, a numerical analysis model was developed to determine the expended part effect of bumps due to steel pipe expansion, and the optimal steel pipe expansion was calculated through material tests. The larger the expansion diameter of the steel pipe and the greater the number of expanded part, the greater the buckling strength. Numerical results showed that the number of expanded part has a greater effect on buckling strength than the expansion rate. When the expansion rate is more than 1.2 times, it can be seen that as the number of expanded part increases, the effect of increasing buckling strength increases significantly. It was also noted that the expanded part effect of the bumps occur significantly when the extension angle is less than 45° and the expansion rate is 1.3 times higher. When the steel pipe is failure, the expanded rate is 20 to 32%, averaging 25.4%. Through the material test, it was analyzed that it is desirable to limit the maximum expansion rate for performing steel pipes to 16%.

  • The structural specification of the rockfall prevention fence installed on the road section is computed according to the hypothetic rockfall energy, and the absorbable energy of the rockfall prevention fence is defined as the sum of the absorption energies of the wire rope, one of the components, the steel support and the wire netting. But the results of the field tests confirmed that the absorption energy of the rockfall prevention fence is not the sum of the energies sustainable by the components, but it is affected by the absorbable energy of part of the components. This shows there are problems with the method of computing the absorption energy of the rockfall prevention fence of the road. So in this paper, as a way of solving the problems, the effects of improving the performance through positional changes of the existing components and the effects of improving the performance through structural changes by expanded metal are checked through tests, and a plan was proposed to solve the problems with the standards of installing the conventional rockfall prevention fence.

  • The present study addresses experimental results to investigate the details of the near field flow structures produced in the under-expanded, dual, coaxial, swirling, jet. The sonic/supersonic swirling jets are emitted from the sonic inner nozzle and the outer annular nozzle produce the co-swirling and counter swirling against the primary swirling jet, respectively. The interactions between both the secondary annular swirling and primary inner supersonic swirling jets are quantified by the pitot impact and static pressure measurements and visualized by using the Schliern optical method. The experiment is performed for different swirl intensity and pressure ratio. The results obtained show that the secondary co-swirling jet significantly changes the inner under-expanded swirling jet, such as the recirculation zone, pressure distribution, through strong interactions between both the swirling jets and the effects of the secondary counter-swirling jet is similar to the secondary co-swirl jet case.

  • In this paper, we proposed the compensation structures for the enhanced directivity of CPW(Coplanar waveguide) directional couplers with finite-extent backed conductor. The proposed compensation structures are. realized by expanding the slot width between signal line and ground plane in center region of couplers. The CPW couplers with expanded slot have the same phase velocity for even and odd mode because of added inductance and changed capacitance appropriately, so the enhanced directivity is accomplished. The designed CPW directional couplers have good directivity and matching characteristic at center frequency in simulation and measurement.

  • Natural gamma-decalactone (GDL) produced by biotransformation is an essential food additive with a peach-like aroma. However, the difficulty of effectively controlling the concentration of the substrate ricinoleic acid (RA) in water limits the biotransformation productivity, which is a bottleneck for industrialization. In this study, expanded vermiculite (E-V) was utilized as a carrier of RA to increase its distribution in the medium. E-V and three commonly used organic compounds were compared with respect to their effects on the biotransformation process, and the mechanism was revealed. Scanning electron microscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and thermogravimetric analysis indicated that RA was physically adsorbed onto the surface of and inside E-V instead of undergoing a chemical reaction, which increased the opportunity for interactions between microorganisms and the substrate. The highest concentration of GDL obtained in the medium with E-V was 6.2 g/l, which was 50% higher than that in the reference sample. In addition, the presence of E-V had no negative effect on the viability of the microorganisms. This study provides a new method for producing natural GDL through biotransformation on an industrial scale.

  • There has been relatively a few studies that focused on evaluation of uncertainty for standard methods by which criteria pollutants are analyzed in ambient air. Especially, uncertainty evaluation has not been made yet for sampling and analysis of airborne NO$_2$. Ambient NO$_2$ has been thought to be a major criteria pollutant worldwide because of the potential of ozone formation as well as of its own toxicity. In this study, we tried to assess uncertainties associated with the every step of sampling and of analytical procedure of Griess-Saltzman method. Quality assurance (QA) and quality control (QC) were also emphasized with the uncertainty characterization. The use of Griess-Saltzman method for ambient NO$_2$ analysis showed very uniform daily concentration distribution with the mean of 10.8 ppb and the standard deviation of 1.08ppb during the sampling period. However, seven daily samples collected at the same sampling time and place exhibited highly different concentration distribution. Therefore, we evaluated uncertainties associated with sampling and analysis through the precise application of ISO Guide. Estimates of expanded uncertainties for a total of 62 samples fell in a relatively broad range of 5.17% to 11.85%. On the other hand. the expanded uncertainties were smaller for the high concentration range of greater than 15ppb.

  • We have used multifactor dimensionality reduction(MDR) method to study interaction effect of statistical model in general. But MDR method cannot be applied in all cases. It can be applied to the only case-control data. So, two methods are suggested E-MDR and D-MDR method using regression tree algorithm and dummy variables. We applied the methods on the identify interaction effects of single nucleotide polymorphisms(SNPs) responsible for longissimus mulcle dorsi area(LMA), carcass cold weight(CWT) and average daily gain(ADG) in a Hanwoo beef cattle population. Finally, we compare the results using permutation test.

  • We propose, in this paper, a new query expansion technique with term reweighting. All terms in the documents feedbacked from a user, excluding stopwords, are selected as candidate terms for query expansion and reweighted using the relevance degree which is calculated from the term-distribution similarity between a candidate term and each term in initial query. The term-distribution similarity of two terms is a measure on how similar their occurrence distributions in relevant documents are. The terms to be actually expanded are selected using the relevance degree and combined with initial query to construct an expanded query. We use KT-set 1.0 and KT-set 2.0 to evaluate performance and compare our method with two methods, one with no relevance feedback and the other with Dec-Hi method which is similar to our method. based on recall and precision.
