Graphene is one of the most promising materials for many applications. It can be used in a variety of applications not only as a reinforcement material for polymer to obtain a combination of desirable mechanical, electrical, thermal, and barrier properties in the resulting nanocomposite but also as a component in energy storage, fuel cells, solar cells, sensors, and batteries. Recent research at Michigan State University has shown that it is possible to exfoliate natural graphite into graphite nanoplatelets composed entirely of stacks of graphene. The size of the platelets can be controlled from less than 10 nm in thickness and diameters of any size from sub-micron to 15 microns or greater. In this study we have investigated the influence of melt compounding processing on the physical properties of a polyamide 6 (PA6) nanocomposite reinforced with exfoliated graphite nanoplatelets (xGnP). The morphology, electrical conductivity, and mechanical properties of xGnP-PA6 nanocomposite were characterized with electrical microscopy, X-ray diffraction, AC impedance, and mechanical properties. It was found that counter rotation (CNR) twins crew processed xGnP/PA6 nanocomposite had similar mechanical properties with co-rotation (CoR) twin screw processed or with CoR conducted with a screw design modified for nanoparticles (MCoR). Microscopy showed that the CNR processed nanocomposite had better xGnP dispersion than the (CoR) twin screw processed and modified screw (MCoR) processed ones. It was also found that the CNR processed nanocomposite at a given xGnP content showed the lowest graphite X-ray diffraction peak at $26.5^{\circ}$ indicating better xGnP dispersion in the nanocomposite. In addition, it was also found that the electrical conductivity of the CNR processed 12 wt.% xGnP-PA6 nanocomposite is more than ten times higher than the CoR and MCoR processed ones. These results indicate that better dispersion of an xGnP-PA6 nanocomposite is attainable in CNR twins crew processing than conventional CoR processing.
이어서 $C_{18}$ H$_{37}$ N($CH_3$)$_3$-APS-MMT 존재하에 diglycidyl ether of bisphenol A (DGEBA)를 중합시켜 광물-고분자 나노복합재료를 합성하였다.
반응 후, poly(${varepsilon}-caprolactone$) ($A_n{=80000}$)을 이 용액에 삽입하여 같은 온도에서 12시간 동안 혼합하였다.
Mg/Al layered double hydroxide with two-dimensional (2D) nanostructures was synthesized by a hydrothermal technique. The morphology and aspect ratio of $Mg_4Al_2(OH)_{14}3H_2O$ were controlled by the concentration and kinds of the hydrolysis agent, and temperature. The aspect ratio of $Mg_4Al_2(OH)_{14}3H_2O$ layered double hydroxides with the 2D hexagonal crystal structure was tailored from about 12.6 to about 45.7. The intercalated $CO{_3}^{2-}$ anions of the synthesized 2D $Mg_4Al_2(OH)_{14}3H_2O$ layered double hydroxides were exchanged to $NO_3{^-}$ anions. The bulk 2D $Mg_4Al_2(OH)_{14}3H_2O$ layered double hydroxides with the increased space between two layers due to the anion exchange were exfoliated in a formamide solution. The aspect ratio of the exfoliated 2D $Mg_4Al_2(OH)_{14}3H_2O$ layered double hydroxides increased to 570.3.
In general, to enhance physical properties of PET-layered silicate nanocomposites $(P_{et}LSNs)$, it has been well known that the organic modifiers should introduce into gallery regions. However, the organic modifiers in$(P_{et}LSNs)$ may result in thermal decomposition by melt processing at high temperature, and it necessarily lead to deteriorate various physical properties of final products. Therefore, in this study, $(P_{et}LSNs)$ excluding and including organic modifiers were prepared by solution method $(S-P_{et}LSNs_{eom} and S-P_{et}LSNs_{iom})$ and we (focused on the effects of the organic modifiers in $P_{et}$ LSNs with exfoliation structure on the crystallization behaviors, the optical transparency, the thermal stability and the mechanical property. The absence and existence of organic modifiers in $S-P_{et}LSNs_{eom} and S-P_{et}LSNs_{iom}$ were investigated by EA and TGA, and nano-structure of silicate layers in $S-P_{et}LSNs$ was evaluated by using WXRD, SAXS and TEM. $S-P_{et}LSNs_{eom} and S-P_{et}LSNs_{iom}$ were mixed with neat PET as masterbatches by melt method $(M-P_{et}LSNs_{eom} and M-P_{et}LSNs_{iom})$, and also neat PET was mixed with organically modified layered silicates (OLS) by conventional direct melt method $(D-P_{et}LSNs) at 270^{\circ}C$. As results, it was found that $M-P_{et}LSNs_{eom}, M-P_{et}LSNs_{iom}, and D-P_{et}LSN$ showed a exfoliated structure and exhibited faster crystallization rate, better thermal stability and mechanical property than those of neat PET due to the dispersed and detaminated silicate layers in PET matrix. Whereas, considering organic modifiers effect, $M-P_{et}LSNs_{eom} and D-P_{et}LSN$ exhibited slower crystallization rate, poorer optical, thermal and mechanical properties, in comparison to $M-P_{et}LSNs_{eom}> due to the thermal decomposition of organic modifier in $D-P_{et}LSNs$ during melt method.
