This paper is a research about system identification which optimizes uncertain geothechnical properties from the data measured during geotechnical design and construction. Various numerical optimization algorithms of Simplex method, Powell method, Rosenbrock method and Levenberg-Marquardt method were applied to the excavation problem to determine which method showed the best results with respect to robustness of success in finding an optimal solution to within a certain accuracy and number of function evaluations. From the results of numerical analysis, all of four algorithms are converged to exact solution after satisfying the allowed criteria, and Levenberg-Marquardt's algorithms was identified to be the most efficient method in number of function evaluations. System identification was applied to geotechnical engineering problems, possibly being occurred in field, to verify its applicability : estimation of settlement due to self-weight consolidation in dredged and filled soil. For self-weight consolidational settlement of a dredged soil, a program of evaluating the constitutive relationship of effective stress-void ratio-permeability was developed by using the technique of system identification. Thus, consolidational characteristics of a dredged soil, having a very high initial void ratio, can be evaluated.

A SWP method is a revolutionary dewatering method. The conventional dewatering method, deep-well method, had ever occurred a civil appeal caused by the well depletion in compliance with the reduction of the groundwater level over a wider area considerably by the deep-well pumping from homogeneous sand-layer ground for a dry-work, while pump groung excavation working in Sendai city, Japan 10 years ago. it'd developed with the problematic proposal to find the new method which can lower the groundwater level only within the sheet pile without any reduction of groundwater outside of the sheet pile and until currently steady improvement came. It's been confirmed with plenty of executional results that there was almost no decreasing of water-level from surroundings, over so many construction-sites including vertical shafts which completely does not enter into non-water permeable layer and pumping ground etc. The SWP method in this time has been introducing initially and carried into a the execution tentatively at a construction-site and made a various result get through the execution.

The soil nailing method had used in variable construction field because of construction convenience and reinforcement effect. Especially, the removal soil nailing method is useful support system in vertical excavation. In this study, to develop the wedge type removable soil nailing method for improvement of the removal soil nailing method. Because of the reinforcement materials is most important in soil nailing method, to evaluate the mechanical characteristics during laboratory strength test in this study. To conduct bond strength test of deformed bar combined with a wedged screw inside plastic fixed socket for evaluate the strength characteristics of wedge type removable soil nailing method and evaluate the strength characteristics of fixed socket based on laboratory tests.
This paper proposes an integrated safety assessment method that can take multiple sources data into consideration based on a data fusion approach. Data cleaning using the Kalman filter method (KF) was conducted first for monitoring data from each sensor. The inclination data from the four tilt sensors of the same monitoring section have been associated to synchronize in time. Secondly, the finite element method (FEM) model was established to physically correlate the external forces with various structural responses of the shield tunnel, including the measured inclination. Response surface method (RSM) was adopted to express the relationship between external forces and the structural responses. Then, the external forces were updated based on the in situ monitoring data from tilt sensors using the extended Kalman filter method (EKF). Finally, mechanics parameters of the tunnel lining were estimated based on the updated data to make an integrated safety assessment. An application example of the proposed method was presented for an urban tunnel during a nearby deep excavation with multiple source monitoring plans. The change of tunnel convergence, bolt stress and segment internal forces can also be calculated based on the real time deformation monitoring of the shield tunnel. The proposed method was verified by predicting the data using the other three sensors in the same section. The correlation among different monitoring data has been discussed before the conclusion was drawn.
In this paper, the results of back analysis based on, the inverse method are presented. Using the field measurements obtained from the two different underground storage caverns in Korea during their construction, the deformation modulus and the initial in-situ stresses of the rock masses around the access tunnels are calculated. The finite element analysis is carried out by usinB these results as input parameters. The calculated displacements are compared with the measured ones.

If a tunnel is constructed below the groundwater level, the groundwater flow will occur inducing the seepage force toward the tunnel and will result in the increase of tunnel convergence. The longitudinal deformation during tunnel excavation will also be increased due to seepage pressure. A back-analysis methodology in underwater tunnel was proposed in this study based on the relative longitudinal deformation measured in-situ. Geotechnical parameters can be estimated utilizing the proposed method where the prior estimate as well as the measured convergence can be reasonably combined by adopting the Extend Bayesian Method.

The soil nailing system is becoming common as reinforcement method of slope face in soil. It has application to obtain slope stability method and scaffolding system. It has some troubles when the soil nailing system is applied to the downtown because it could be invaded someone's private area. Thus, in this paper, wedge type removable soil nailing system which can easily remove deformed bar in final excavation step is developed. Field pull-out test is performed to evaluate deformed bars removal and pullout resistance characteristics. According to this result, application of Wedge Type Removable Soil Nailing System is performed.

The safety factor of a tunnel considering the failure of supports is important because the failure of supports might cause the collapse of the tunnel. In the previous studies, shotcrete was modelled as beam elements and the failure of the shotcrete was checked according to the allowable working stress concept. In this study, shotcrete was modelled by both beam elements and continuum (elasto-plastic) elements. Safety factors of tunnels were estimated by two dimensional numerical analysis with varying rock mass class, coefficient of lateral pressure, thickness of shotcrete, rock bolt reinforcement and excavation method. Also the study suggested not only a proper amount of supports but also modelling method.
The relationship between the reflection number obtained from seismic reflective survey and the rock strength value obtained from TBM excavation is examined, and the procedure of the conversion from the reflection number to the rock strength value is proposed. Subsequently, geostatistical method is employed to evaluate the rock properties ahead of the tunnel face and around the tunnel with good precision, using both the seismic reflective survey data and the TBM driving data for the purpose of the tunnel driving and enlargement. The applicability of this evaluation method is examined at the actual tunnel site.

Pollutants from industry, mining, agriculture, and other sources have contaminated sediments in many surface water bodies. Sediment contamination poses a severe threat to human health and environment because many toxic contaminants that are barely detectable in the water body can accumulate in sediment at much higher levels, the purpose of this study was to make convenient sampling method and optimal treatment of sediment for water quality improvement in reservoir or stream based on an evaluation of degree of contamination. Results for analysis of S-reservoir sediments were observed that copper concentration of almost areas were higher than the regulation of soil pollution (50 mg/1) for the riverbed. S-stream sediments were observed that copper, arsenic and TPH concentration of almost areas were exceeded soil pollution concerning levels for factorial areas. We used Remscreen(version. 1.0) program which is contaminated soil recovery program to select optimal treatment method of contaminant sediments. The result was shown in the order of Thermal Calcination > Excavation, Retrieval and Off-site Disposal(comparative less then contaminant) > Low Temperature Thermal Desorption + Solidification/Stabilization.
