Basic research have contributed to technological growth or economic growth in U.S. Specially recent studies say that universities also contribute to economic development through scientific activities like science research, education, technology transfers. But we can not assure whether scientific knowledge was connected to real technology or economic performance, and it is difficult to figure out the effect of scientific output. "What is the exact performance of scientific knowledge?" It is still obscure. In this context, this paper analyzes characteristics of the linkage of science and technology. Data are U.S. R&D expenditure, scientific articles, citation of articles in U.S. patents by fields and sectors. As a result, university sector has the most weight of the linkage of science and technology. But, in relative connection rate analysis, industrial sector's is stronger than any other sectors. In the field analysis, linkage of science and technology is very strong in Chemistry, Physics, Biological sciences fields. And recently the linkage was increased in the fields of Computer science, Agricultural science, Engineering. Finally, this paper supports funding policy or estimation policy of government to product of scientific knowledge. University sector is still important because it has the most weight of the linkage. Scientific knowledge of industrial sector is also important. The connection rate of industrial science is the strongest in all sectors. And this research classify the R&D type by science fields. Considering the differences of science fields is needed to product science knowledge effectively.

It is important to analyze the exact damage information for fast recovery when natural disasters cause damage on river-side facilities such as dams, bridges, embankments etc. In this study, we shows the method to effectively damage analysis plan using UAV(Unmanned aerial vehicle) images and accuracy assessment of it. The UAV images are captured on area near the river-side facilities and the core methodology for damage analysis are image matching and change detection algorithm. The result(point cloud) from image matching is to construct 3-dimensional data using by 2-dimensional images, it extracts damage areas by comparing the height values on same area with reference data. The results are tested absolute locational precision compared by post-processed aerial LiDAR data named reference data. The assessment analysis test shows our matching results 10-20 centimeter level precision if external orientation parameters are very accurate. This study shows suggested method is very useful for damage analysis in a large size structure like river-side facilities. But the complexity building can't apply this method, it need to the other method for damage analysis.

The aim of this study was to determine the effect of a non-elastic fixation belt on the balance ability and fall prevention in elderly women. Elderly women experience reduced balance ability and an increased risk of falls due to a weakening of the surrounding sacroiliac joint and pelvic muscles during childbirth and menopause. On the other hand, specific studies are still needed. The subjects were allocated randomly to two groups: control (n=20) and experimental (n=20). The experimental group used a non-elastic fixation belt, whereas the control group had no fixation belt. The balance ability and the fall index were measured in all subjects using a balance measurement device, and the low abdominal muscle thickness was determined in the experimental group using ultrasound imaging for the exact application of the non-elastic fixation belt. The following statistical analysis was performed: an independent t-test for the general characteristics of the subjects, $2{\times}2$ analysis of variance with repeated measures for the balance and fall index score, and a paired t-test for the abdominal muscle thickness. The group ${\times}$ time interaction effect showed significant improvement in the General Stability Index (F1,38=47.24, p=0.001), Fourier Harmony Index (F1,38=88.83, p=0.001), Weight Distribution Index (F1,38=50.21, p=0.001), and Fall Index (F1,38=21.59, p=0.001). The thicknesses of the transverse abdominal (p=0.001) and internal oblique (p=0.001) muscles were increased significantly in the experimental group after using the non-elastic fixation belt. Overall, the application of a non-elastic fixation belt could be effective in improving the balance ability and fall prevention in elderly women.

A damage estimation method is presented for jacket-type support structure of offshore wind turbine using a change of modal properties due to damage and committee of neural networks for effective structural health monitoring. For more practical monitoring, it is necessary to monitor the critical and prospective damaged members with a limited number of measurement locations. That is, many data channels and sensors are needed to identify all the members appropriately because the jacket-type support structure has many members. This is inappropriate considering economical and practical health monitoring. Therefore, intensive damage estimation for the critical members using a limited number of the measurement locations is carried out in this study. An analytical model for a jacket-type support structure which can be applied for a 5 MW offshore wind turbine is established, and a training pattern is generated using the numerical simulations. Twenty damage cases are estimated using the proposed method. The identified damage locations and severities agree reasonably well with the exact values and the accuracy of the estimation can be improved by applying the committee of neural networks. A verification experiment is carried out, and the damage arising in 3 damage cases is reasonably identified.

This paper presents the simulation design and analysis of Integrated Logistics System(ILS) which is operated by using the AGV(Automated Guided Vehicle). To maximize the operation performances of ILS with AGV, many parameters should be considered such as the number, velocity, and dispatching rule of AGV, part types, scheduling, and buffer sizes. We established the design of experiment in a way of Orthogonal Array in order to consider (1)maximizing the throughput; (2)maximizing the vehicle utilization; (3)minimizing the congestion; and (4)maximizing the Automated Storage and Retrieval System(AS/RS) utilization among various critical factors. Furthermore, we performed the optimization by using the simulation-based analysis and Evolution Strategy(ES). As a result, Orthogonal Array which is conducted far fewer than ES significantly saved not only the time but the same outcome when compared after validation test on the result from the two methods. Therefore, this approach ensures the confidence and provides better process for quick analysis by specifying exact experiment outcome even though it provides small number of experiment.

Geology, hydrogeology, and geochemistry are the main technical siting factors of a geological repository for spent nuclear fuels. This paper evaluated the siting criteria of overseas geological repository with related to hydrogeologic properties, such as hydraulic conductivity, partitioning coefficient, dispersion coefficient, boundary condition, and water age. Each country establishes the siting criteria based on its important geological backgrounds and information, and social environment. For example, Sweden and Finland that have decided a crystalline rock as a host rock of a geological repository show different siting criteria for hydraulic conductivity. In Sweden, it is preferable to avoid area where the hydraulic conductivity on a deposition hole scale (~30m) exceeds $10^{-8}m/s$, whereas Finland does not decide any criterion for the hydraulic conductivity because of limited data for it. In addition, partitioning coefficients should be less than 10-1 of average value in Swedish crystalline bedrock. However, the area where shows 100 times less than average partitioning coefficients of radionuclides in crystalline rock should be avoided in Sweden. In German, the partitioning coefficients for the majority of the long-term-relevant radionuclides should be greater than or equal to $0.001m^3/kg$. Therefore, it is strongly required to collect much and exact information for the hydrogeologic properties in order to set up the siting criteria.

One of most important problems in the Monsoon Asia today is the production of rice paddy to meet the needs of the ever increasing population. Diversemeans are being employed to meet this demand, both by increasing productivity of existing farm land and by bringing further areas into cultivation. The primary step in either field is to ensure that there is sufficient moisture in the soil to suit the paddy, and at the same this means that excess moisture has to be drained off the land, while in others irrigat ion has to be employed to bring sufficient water to an area. In view of the fact that the project comprises a huge amount of earthwork, it can be carried out by extensive use of construction machinery in order to shorten the period. As farm ditch has a comparatively small section with shallow cutting depth, inaddition, there is lack of access road in the field, the excavation equipment with bulldozer or tracter-shovel (backhoe) type are not applicable because there are mostly adapted for the excavation of deep and wide section. Mini-backhoe with its bucket width not larger than 0. 3m, and width of blade not larger than 1. 00m seems to be more adaptable. About 80% of excavation of ditch section will be done by the machinery while the other 20% of excavation together with the finishing of the section are supposed to be done by man-power. The embankment of ditch section can be compacted by the crawler of backhoe when it is moving along the ditch for excavation. However, Lowland paddy field in the Monsoon Asia are made particulary in rain season, therefore, heavy machinery is not easy excavation for ditch. It is very important to know exact ground support power of the working site and select machines with corresponding ground pressure. Ground support power is variable subject to quality and water content of soil and therefore selection of machines should be made duly considering ground condition of the site at the time of construction works. Farm ditches dug and compacted by mannual labar are of poor quality and subject to destruction after one or two years of operation. On the other hand, excavation and compaction by bulldozer is not practical for ditches. Backboe is suitable for slope land, but this is required cycle time of bucket excavation and dumped out. If a small-scale farm ditch trencher adaptable to lowland paddy field is invented, such a machine could greatly accelerate the massive construction work envisaged in many countries and thus significantly speed up the most difficult part of irrigation development and management in Monsoon Asia.

In order to predict the risk of freeze injury for 'Changhowon Hwangdo' peach trees, we used the dormancy depth (i.e., the daily chill unit accumulation during the overwintering period) as a proxy for the short-term, physiological tolerance to freezing temperatures. A Chill-days model was employed and its parameters such as base temperature and chilling requirement were optimized for peach trees based on the 12 observational experiments during the 2008-2009 winter. The model predicted the flowering dates much closer to the observations than other models without considering dormancy depth, showing the strength of employing dormancy depth into consideration. To derive empirical equations for calculating the probabilistic freeze risk, the dormancy depth was then combined with the browning ratio and the budburst ratio of frozen peach fruit branches. Given the exact date and the predicted minimum temperature, the equations calculate the probability of freeze damages such as a failure in budburst or tissue browning. This method of employing dormancy depth in addition to freezing temperature would be useful in locating in advance the risky areas of freezing injury for peach trees production under the projected climate change.

A futuristic locomotion system called Hyperloop is projected for driving at ulta-high speed, levitated in the tube. In hyperloop localization of pods on the linear synchronous motor is essential for pod driving. precision localization is required for acceleration and deceleration of pods driving at speed above 1,000km/h, and also required for adjusting the pod speed driving at this very-high speed to maintain inter-vehicle distance. In this work, a new scale of localization is challenged by modified laser surface velocimeter. In acceleration the speed of a virtual pod is calculated along its displacement measured by laser reflection. Under the requirement of precise localization of the pod driving at ultra-high speed, a displacement measurement device, which detects the difference in reflections from tiles passing by the pod, is developed and evaluated through performance test. Tests of pod speeds below 500km/h have showed exact localization results of the precision in centimeters, and tests of pod speeds above 500km/h have showed localization with very low error rates under 0.1%. For the measurement above 500km/h, future works would pursue the error rate converges to zero.

The objective of our research was an international comparison focusing on studies conducted on parks and green spaces undertaken in Japan and Korea. We also aim to clarify the similarities and differences between the two countries and consider the key features of the researches on the field of landscape architecture. We compared the recent trends of Japanese institute with Korean observed in the theme of research papers adopt title of them. The research period spanned approximately twenty years, from 1980 to 2003. We employed the Table of Contents information search system to research academic journal articles and to select the journals that included articles with the key words [park(s)] or [green space(s)] in their title. We chronologically arranged the journals for each country, based on the total number of journals and classification categories. We then conducted a comparative examination among the two countries. We also contributed information on the circumstances behind the formulation or amendment of some policies and laws and we checked the results against the research trend. Among the selected journals, the number of papers was the highest by the Institute of Landscape Architecture. But the reason for increase of the number of papers on green spaces in Japanese journals was not published by the Institute of Landscape Architecture but by the City Planning Institute and the Architecture Institute. In Japan, the papers on parks categorized under historical study were the highest among all categories. On the other hand, in Korean journals, papers on parks categorized under historical study were few. A similar trend was recognized in papers on green spaces. Every society is concerned with the study of function and effect. However, some exact differences have been observed by category classification. In Japan, the percentage of function and effect papers on parks was less than those on green spaces. In Korea, both percentages for these groups were high. The category of system and policy accounted for $17\%$ of the papers on green spaces in Korea. This result was higher than the number of papers on green spaces and parks in Japan and parks in Korea. Recently, the number of papers focusing on large-scale green space system has decreased in Japan. The trend in the study of parks and green spaces on a regional scale or at an individual level will be closely monitored. Systems and modeling studies have been focusing in Korea. The understanding between the administration and the citizens was peculiar to each country.
