This study was performed to investigate the characteristics of drying shrinkage for concrete slabs as a project for Korean pavement design procedure. According to the volume-surface ratios and aggregate types, the experiments have been executed for 252 days. In order to simulate the volume-surface ratio of a real concrete pavement slab, three-layer epoxy coating and wrapping were used to prevent the evaporation at the part of specimen surfaces. As a result of preliminary test, coating and wrapping method was identified as reliable for three months. According to the volume-surface ratio, the drying shrinkage of the concrete specimen using sandstone was measured 1.32 to 1.8 times higher than that of the limestone specimen. Comparing to the measured drying shrinkage strains and established ACI and CEB-FIP model equations, it turned out that those model equations were underestimated. Finally, considering the age and volume-surface ratios, the prediction equations of the drying shrinkage of concrete specimen were proposed through a multiple nonlinear regression analysis.
The height and capacity of the thermal storage tank can be decided by the altitude and heat load of the heat supply area. Evaporation in heat pipe can be prevented by pressurizing it with the hydraulic head of the thermal storage tank. In addition, it absorbs the expanded volume from the temperature changes and supplies water to the pipelines in case of the shortage of water. One of the most important roles of the thermal storage tank is a stable heat supply facility. It can control the heat demand by accumulating the surplus heat and supplying in changing heat demand time. The purpose of this thesis is to be helpful for the operation and maintenance of the thermal storage tanks. The study has been carried out for 18 thermal storage tanks, which have been used polyurethane foam as insulation, among 27 tanks in district heating plants. The characteristics of the insulation materials, the reasons for the damages of the insulation and how impact the insulation damages to the corrosion of the thermal storage tank have been studied.

The corrosion rates of the reactor pressure vessel materials of SA508 Grade 3 were measured using a weight loss method in aerated boric acid solutions to simulate the evaporation of leaked PWR primary water in an ambient environment. The corrosion behavior and products were examined using X-ray diffraction and electron microscopy. SA508 showed typical general corrosion characteristics. The corrosion rate increased steadily as the boron concentration was increased. As the immersion time elapsed, the corrosion rate slowly or rapidly decreased according to the oxidation reaction of iron. The corrosion rate showed a complicated pattern depending on the temperature; it increased gradually and then rapidly decreased again when reaching a certain transition temperature. The corrosion products of SA508 were found to be FeO(OH), Fe2O3, and Fe3O4. As the boron concentration decreased and the temperature was increased, the formation of Fe3O4 was more favorable as compared to the formation of FeO(OH) and Fe2O3. Consequently, the changes of the corrosion rate and behavior were closely related to the oxidation reaction of iron on the surface. The corrosive damage to SA508 appears to be most severe when the oxidation reaction is such that Fe2O3 forms as a corrosion product.
The secondary electron emission coefficient $({\gamma})$ of the cathode is an important factor for improving the discharge characteristics of AC-PDPs because of its close relationship to discharge voltage. In AC-PDPs, MgO is most widely used as a surface protective layer. In this experimental, we have investigated the electronic structure of the energy band structure of the MgO layer responsible for the high ${\gamma}$. The MgO layers have been deposited by electron beam evaporation method, where the $O_2$ partial pressures have been varied as 0, $5.2{\times}10^{-5}$ torr, $1.0{\times}10^{-4}$ torr, and $4.1{\times}10^{-4}$ torr, in this experiment. It is noted that work function that is energy gap between surface and first defect level of MgO layer has the lowest value for the highest O2 partial pressure of $4.1^{\ast}10^{-4}$ Torr.

We have investigated that the effect of post annealing on the structural and electrical properties of $Ba_{0.5}Sr_{0.5}TiO_3$ thin films. The BST thin films were deposited on n-type 4H-silicon carbide(SiC) using pulsed laser deposition (PLD). The deposition was carried out in oxygen ambient 100mTorr for 5 minutes, which results in about 300nm-thick BST films. For the BST/4H-SiC, 200nm thick silver was deposited on the BST films bye-beam evaporation. The X-ray diffraction patterns of the BST films revealed that the crystalline structure of BST thin films has been improved after post-annealing at $850^{\circ}C$ for 1 hour. The root mean square (RMS) surface roughness of the BST film measured by using a AFM was increased after post-annealing from 5.69nm to 11.49nm. The electrical properties of BST thin film were investigated by measuring the capacitance-voltage characteristics of a silver/BST/4H-SiC structure. After the post-annealing, dielectric constant of the film was increased from 159.67 to 355.33, which can be ascribed to the enhancement of the crystallinity of BST thin films.
HANARO, 30 MW of research reactor, was installed at the depth of 13m in an open pool. The $90\%$ of primary coolant was designed to pass through the core and to remove the reaction heat of the cote. The rest, $10\%$, of the primary coolant was designed to bypass the core. And the reactor coolant through and bypass the core was inhaled at the top of chimney by the coolant pump to prevent the radiated gas from being lifted to the top of reactor pool. But, the part of core bypass coolant was not inhaled by the reactor coolant pump and reached at the top of reactor pool by natural convection, and increased the radiation lovel on the top of reactor pool. To reduce the radiation level by protecting the natural convection of the core bypass flow, the hot water layer (HWL, hereinafter) was installed with the depth of 1.2 m from the top of reactor pool. As the HWL was normally operated, the radiation level was reduced to five percent ($5\%$) in comparing with that before the installation of the HWL. When HANARO was operated at a higher temperature than the normal temperature of the HWL by operating the standby heater, it was found that the radiation level was more reduced than that before operation. To verify the reason, the heat loss of the HWL was calculated by Visual Basic Program. It was confirmed through the results that the larger the temperature difference between the HWL and reactor hall was, the more the evaporation loss increased. And it was verified that the radiation level above was reduced mote safely by increasing the capacity of heater.

The present work experimentally investigated the effects of mass flux, heat flux, inlet quality on the heat transfer performance inside the U-bend of smooth and microfin tube using R-22 and R-407C refrigerants. The parameters were 200 and 400 kg/m$^{2}$ s for mass flux, 6 and 12 kw/m$^{2}$ for heat flux, 0.1 and 0.2 for inlet quality under the pressure of 0.65 MPa. The apparatus consisted of the test section of four straight sections and three U-bends, preheater, condenser, refrigerant pump, mass flow meter etc. The average heat transfer coefficient at the downstream straight section after U-bend was affected by U-bend due to the centrifugal force and mixing of two-phase flow in the U-bend. The average heat transfer coefficient at the U-bend was 4 ~ 33 % higher than that at the straight section. The average heat transfer coefficients were affected in the order of mass flux, heat flux and inlet quality. The average heat transfer coefficients in the microfin tube were lager by 19 ~ 49% and 33 ~ 69% than that in the smooth tube at the straight section and at the U-bend separately. The average heat transfer coefficients for R-407C were larger by 33 ~ 41% and 17 ~ 29% than that for R-22 in the smooth tube and the microfin tube separately.
This research dealt with performance characteristics of OTEC system applying an ejector and additional pump. Each system using five kinds of working fluids was analyzed, and primary parameters with respect to entrainment ratio were examined: Turbine gross power, evaporation capacity, pump work, efficiency and volume flow ratio. The primary results were as following. The efficiency of ejector-pump OTEC system was dependent on entrainment of the ejector. The degree of efficiency change was different from applied working fluid, and amount of pump work was turned out to be primary factor affected system efficiency. Meanwhile, optimized entrainment ratio was different from applied working fluid since their different vapor density. System efficiency at optimized entrainmet ratio of each working fluid was around 5%, showing minor difference each other.

The characteristics of local climate in the vicinity of Duckyang Bay have been investigated with the analysis of the surface observation data of Gohug District and the aerological data of Kwangju. In principal features of local climate, the annual range in temperature appeared identical with the mean value(24~$25^{\circ}C$) of the south coastal area, and evaporation from April to September was likely less than precipitation. The average speed of surface wind in Summer seemed higher than in other seasons on account of wea breeze. Relative humidity was 74%, annual average. In the mean cloud cover Summer(6.4) showed greater deal of amount than Winter(4.2). Duration of sunshine was the longest in May(268.4hrs), while the shortest in February(188.4hrs). The amount of the precipitable water was the greatest in July, whereas the least in January, and in Summer the greatest, in Autumn the second greatest, and in Spring the third greatest, and in Winter the least in consideration of seasonal orders. The Summer deviation was most remarkable around all sides. The direction of vector wind appeared the most changeable on the earth surface. At an altitude of 300mb all the winds blew west around all months. Moreover, water vapor transport was measured to be the greatest in Summer; while the least in Winter. So was the deviation of water vapor transport. And lastly frequency of occurrence of days in which a little cloud appeared(less than 5/10) was high except for Summer, when northerly winds blew; while frequency of occurrence of day plenty of clouds floated was outstandingly high at the time of strong southerly winds.
