Improving Effect of a Combined Extract of Rhei Rhizoma and Glycyrrhizae Rhizoma through Anti-oxidative Stress in Reflux Esophagitis rats (대황 감초 복합추출물의 항산화 효과를 통한 역류성 식도염 개선 효과)

  • Objectives : The present study was designed to evaluate the anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidative stress activities through regulation of Nrf2-mediated genes by Rhei rhizoma and Glycyrrhiza rhizoma combined extract (RGE) in reflux esophagitis.Methods : The antioxidant activity of RGE in vitro was measured in terms of radical scavenging capacity such as DPPH and ABTS. RGE was administered at 350 mg/kg body weight prior to induction of reflux esophagitis. Reflux esophagitis was induced that tied the pylorus and the transitional junction between the forestomach and the corpus in Sprague-Dawley rats.Results : RGE scavenged DPPH and ABTS effectively and IC50of RGE each were 4.9 μg/ml and 45.6 μg/ml. Our results show that RGE administration markedly ameliorated mucosal damage upon histological evaluation. In serum and esophagus tissue, RGE significantly suppressed the oxidative stress biomarkers. Reflux esophagitis induced rats exhibited down-regulation of antioxidant-related proteins in the esophagus; however, the levels with treatment of RGE were significantly higher than those of vehicle reflux esophagitis rats. RGE treatment caused significant reductions in activation of NF-κB transcription factor. Thus, RGE significantly exhibited potent anti-inflammatory activities by suppressing the protein expression levels of pro-inflammatory proteins such as COX-2 and iNOS and inflammatory cytokines such as TNF-αin the esophagus tissue.Conclusions : Reflux esophagitis caused considerable levels of oxidative stress in the esophageal mucosa and the administration of RGE reduced the esophageal mucosa damage through the regulation of Nrf2 and NF-κB pathways. Our findings can considered as supplementary therapy in the prevention or treatment of reflux esophagitis.

Blending Effect on the Mechanical and Hand Properties of Wool/Acrylic Blend Knits

  • Mechanical properties and hand evaluation of wool/acrylic(W/A) blend knits were conducted before and after repeated washing to get the optimum W/A blending ratio, which could help achieve the optimum mechanical and hand properties of the knits. The five test fabrics using the yarns with different W/A blending ratios($\%$), 100/0, 70/30, 50/50, 30/70, 0/100, were knitted. The fabrics were washed by a rotating drum type washing machine. Then, objective mechanical and hand properties were evaluated by KES-FB, Kawabata evalution system for fabric. The results are as follows: there was no change in the hand value of the knitted fabric with the W/A-blended yarn caused by the change in the blending ratio before washing. After washing, however, the increase of acrylic's blending rate caused the bending property to decrease proportionally, while the friction coefficient of the surface property increased. Furthermore, the study showed that W/A 50/50 possesses the most superior tensile property and shearing property, which could attain the optimum blending ratio. Similar results in hand value were derived in all the samples. After washing, however, the increase in acrylic's blending rate caused a proportional decrease in KOSHI and an increase in FUKURAMI. In addition, W/A 50/50 gained the biggest NUMERI value, again corresponding to the optimum blending ratio. Similar results in total hand value were derived in all the samples before washing. After washing, though, all the total hand values decreased, and, as the wool fabric's blending rate increased, the total hand values proportionally decreased further.

  • In this investigation, we have studied the diffusion of the $Cu^+$ ion in the Cu/Ta/SiOCH/Si and Cu/Ta/$SiO_2$/Si MIS-C structure. The Cu ions diffusion into the Ta barrier and SiOCH was examined by shift in flatband voltage of capacitance-voltage measurement and leakage current of current-voltage measurement. These evalution indicated that $Cu^+$ ion diffusion rate in Ta/SiOCH is considerably lower then the Ta/$SiO_2$ structure. And diffusion barrier Ta(50[nm]) is useful barrier against $Cu^+$ ion diffusion up to 450$^{\circ}C$.

  • Most of the data sets to which the conventional discriminant rules have been applied contain only those which belong to one and only one class among the classes of interest. However the extension of the bivalence to multivlaence like Fuzzy concepts strongly influence the traditional view that an object must belong to only class. Thus the goal of this paper is to develop new discriminant rules which can handle the data each object of which may belong to moer than two classes with certain degrees of belongings. A calibration model is used for the relationship between the feature vector of an object and the degree of belongings and a Bayesian inference is made with the Metropolis algorithm on the degree of belongings when a feature vector of an object whose membership is unknown is given. An evalution criterion is suggested for the rules developed in this paper and comparision study is carried using two training data sets.

Effect of Thawing Methods and Storage Periods on the Quality of Frozen Cooked Rice

  • This study attempted to determine the effect of various thawing methods and storage periods on the quality of froen cooked rice. Frozen cooked rice was thawed at four different methods, such as pressure cooking, conventional cooking, microwave heating and thawing at room temperature after 10 days, 30days and 90 days frozen storage. We conducted a physico-chemical analysis (moisture content, dehydration rates, degree of gelatinization, color value and texture) and sensory evalution on the frozen-thawed cooked rice. The study showed that there were no significant differences on the quality characteristics of frozen-thawed cooked rice during the storage period of 90 days. However, the thawing method of pressure cooking caused high moisture content, rapid dehydration rates, and a high degree of gelatinization on the cooked rice. Thus, the desirabililty for the rice diminished becaused of the excess moisture content and the change of appearance and testure in the rice due to the high temperature. There were similiar quality characteristics to the cooked rice after forzen-thawing whether by conventional cooking or by microwave heating and just after cooking. Thawing at room temperature also caused a significant decrease in quality characteristics.

  • Hydrogenation properties of Mg-Ni and Mg-Ti-Ni alloys were investigated by Pressure-Composition Isotherm (PCI) test. Those alloys were fabricated by a new alloying method, Rotation-Cylinder Method (RCM). The as-cast microstructure of Mg-10 mass% Ni alloy consists of an island-like hydride forming $\alpha$-Mg phase and the eutectic structure. After 350 cyclic tests, Mg-lO mass % Ni alloy was pulverized into fine particles of 100 nm. The fine particles, which have a large specific surface area, are highly reactive with hydrogen. However, extreme pulvehzation can separate Mg from $Mg_2Ni$ in the eutectic structure, so $Mg_2Ni$ of the eutectic structure cannot behave as a dissociated hydrogen supplier.

Quality Characteristics of the Bread added Persimmon Leaves Powder (감잎분말을 첨가한 식빵의 품질특성)

  • Quality characteristics of the bread added four different concnetrations(0.5%, 1%, 1.5%, 2%) of persimmon leaves were measured. The moisture content and water activity of the bread with the persimmon leaves powder of 0.5%, 1%, 1.5%, 2% were 45% and 0.97 respectively, and had no difference according to the content of the powder. This study also showed that the bread made by the wheat flour added the persimmon leaves powder of 1% was better in specific volume, color, sensory evalution, mechanical propertis(hardness, fracturability, adhesiveness, springiness. cohesiveness. gumminess, chewiness, elasticity) than the bread added the powder differently.

  • 본 연구는 노인복지시설의 성과평가에 미치는 우선순위 결정요인을 파악한다. 이론적 고찰과 선행연구를 통하여 노인 복지시설에 미치는 결정요인을 설정하였다. Saaty의 계층분석과정(Analytic Hierarchy Process; AHP)를 활용하여 각각의 결정요인들에 대한 가중치와 우선순위를 분석하였다. 노인복지는 특정한 분야로 한정되어 있지 않기 때문에 양적인 방법만으로 설명하는 것은 한계가 있다. 따라서 질적 및 양적 방법을 활용할 수 있는 계층분석과정방법과 SPSS프로그램을 이용하여 실증분석을 하였다. 노인복지시설의 분석결과를 요약하면 투입에 대한 상대적 중요도를 분석한 결과 예산이 가장 높게 나왔으며, 산출에 대한 상대적 중요도를 분석한 결과는 운영체계화와 노인복지성이 가장 높게 나타났다. 세부항목 간의 상대적 중요도를 분석한 결과는 결산서와 전문인력이 가장 높게 나타났다. 시설유형별 투입요인은 이용시설과 생활시설 모두 예산이 가장 높게 나타났으며, 산출요인은 이용시설은 운영체계화, 생활시설은 노인복지성이 가장 높게 나타났다. 노인복지시설에 미치는 결정요인에 따른 몇 가지 구체적인 정책적 시사점을 대안으로 제시하였다.

  • The objective of this paper is to develop an expert system for nuclear piping integrity. This paper describes the selection methodology of integrity evalution method and the inference of material properties. To select the integrity evaluation method, the weight factor for respective material properties was obtained by the sensitivity analysis of the effect of material properties on integrity evaluation method. Subsequently the possession ratio for respective integrity evaluation method was computed, and the most appropriate integrity evaluation method for given input information is selected. In the material properties inference, stress-strain curves and J-R curves were predicted from tensile properties such as yield strength and tensile strength.

  • This paper aims at reviewing the possibility of application over normal or abnormal, detection used by AE, and the characteristics of grinding processes. In this study, when WA-vitri-fied ' resinoid bond grinding wheels:36 kinds of grinding wheel and grinding depth were tuned at the surface grinding, the zone of AE signal generation is theoretically modelled and reviewed by grinding processes. The variation of grinding resistance( F$n^{9}$ $F_{t}$) and AE signal is detected in-process by the use of AE measuring system. The tests are carried out in accordance with grain size and grade of grinding wheels, and work-pieces-STD11 and STD61. According to the experiment's results, the following can be expected;as grinding time passes by, the relation of grinding depth and quantity of AE signal, observing on AE signal and grinding burn suggest the characteristics of grinding processes and evalution on the possibility of control of grinding machine, and monitoring abnormal conditions.e, and monitoring abnormal conditions.
