  • Due to the nature of semi-submergible drilling rig, various equipments are arranged in a limited space, and therefore the many types of outfitting holes passing through the hull structure are densely arranged and that is required the detailed structural strength evaluation in terms of ULS and FLS by class or client. Particularly, semi-submergible drilling rig has a variety of global load which affects the structure strength around holes compared to general commercial ship, and its response of stress is also complicated, so it is difficult to carry out the prediction design of structural strength evaluation and reinforcement. In this regard, this paper presents a case study on the evaluation of structural strength for the various holes and large openings of semi-submergible drilling rig conducted by our company, as well as an established hole verification procedure.

  • UAV(Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) has become one of the most popularmilitary/commercial aerial robots in the new millennium. In spite of all theadvantages that UAVs inherently have, it is not an easv job to develop a UAVbecause it requires very systematic and complete approaches in full developmentenvelop. The ground test and evaluation phase has the utmost importance in thesense that a well-developed system can be best verified on the ground. In addition, many of the aircraft crashes in the flight tests were resulted from the incompletedevelopment procedure. In this research, a verification procedure of the wholeairbome integrated system was conducted including the flight management system. An airbome flight control computer(FCC) senses the extemal environment from thepehpheral devices and sends the control signal to the actuating system using theassigned control logic and flight test strategy. A ground test station controls themission during the test while the downlink data are transferred from the flightmanagement computer using the serial communication interface. The pilot controlbox also applies additional manual actuating commands. The whole system wastested/verified on the wind-tunnel system, which gave a good pitch controlperformance with a preUspecified flight test procedure. The ground test systemguarantees the performance of fundamental functions of airbome electronic systemfor the future flight tests.

  • Performance evaluation of a plant to efficiently manage and maintain the performance of the plant is a very important procedure. However, since the conventional performance evaluation method is an Excel-based manual method, the preparation procedure is complicated and the versatility is poor. In this paper, we analyze the problems of the existing performance evaluation system, effectively model the equipment, calculate the missing physical properties, and improve the versatility, efficiency and accuracy of the performance evaluation through the equipment modeler which performs automatic index calculation based on this.

  • Virtual reality can be applied well to product design and evaluation. A virtual design evaluation system for an automobile cabin was implemented on a desk-top virtual environment system. It has two frontal seats, a dashboard, a steering wheel, and various displays/controllers. Users can interact with these components as they do that with real ones. To verify the effectiveness of the virtual design evaluation system, 17 subjects participated in the evaluation procedure. The evaluation result showed that the stereoscopic vision enhanced the subjective reality of the virtual automobile cabin. Graphic details, design, and time lag were also related to the subjective feel for reality.

  • This paper presents a model for R&D project selection and evaluation system design developed through literature review. The model emphasizes the fitness between the five elements of the system : evaluation phase and purpose, personnel and organization, evaluation critiria and decision model, evaluation form and procedure, and projects. The model was applied in real situation as a test case. The important findings are that a good project selection and evaluation model contributes only partially to the effectiveness of the project selection and that system development and implementation activity is a dynamic and multi-facetted learning process.

  • In this paper a systematic test procedure for evaluation of road-induced noise of a vehicle and guidelines for each test are presented. Also, a practical application of the test procedure to a small SUV is presented. According to the test procedure, all the tests were performed to evaluate road-induced booming noise that is in low frequency range. First of all the information on characteristics of road-induced noise was obtained through baseline test. Coupling effects between body structure and acoustic cavity of a compartment were obtained by means of modal tests for a structure and an acoustic cavity. Local stiffness of joint areas between chassis system and car-body was determined by test for measurement of input point inertance. Noise sensitivities of body joints to operational forces were obtained through test for measurement of noise transfer functions. Operational deflection shapes made us analyze behaviors of chassis system under running condition and then find sources of noise due to resonance of the chassis system. Finally, Principal Component Analysis and Transfer Path Analysis were utilized to investigate main paths of road-induced noise. In order to evaluate road-induced booming noise exactly, all of tests mentioned above should be performed systematically.

  • Vagal damage and subsequent pyloric denervation inevitably occur during esophagectomy, potentially leading to delayed gastric emptying (DGE). The choice of an optimal pyloric procedure to overcome DGE is important, as such procedures can lead to prolonged surgery, shortening of the conduit, disruption of the blood supply, and gastric dumping/bile reflux. This study investigated various pyloric methods and analyzed comparative studies in order to determine the optimal pyloric procedure. Surgical procedures for the pylorus include pyloromyotomy, pyloroplasty, or digital fracture. Botulinum toxin injection, endoscopic balloon dilatation, and erythromycin are non-surgical procedures. The scope, technique, and effects of these procedures are changing due to advances in minimally invasive surgery and postoperative interventions. Some comparative studies have shown that pyloric procedures are helpful for DGE, while others have argued that it is difficult to reach an objective conclusion because of the variety of definitions of DGE and evaluation methods. In conclusion, recent advances in interventional technology and minimally invasive surgery have led to questions regarding the practice of pyloric procedures. However, many clinicians still perform them and they are at least somewhat effective. To provide guidance on the optimal pyloric procedure, DGE should first be defined clearly, and a large-scale study with an objective evaluation method will then be required.

  • After restructuring electricity industry, national long term electricity plans moved to "Basic plan of electricity supply and demand" from "Long term power development plan". The main point is a change of path from plan of power development at national level to plan of electricity supply and demand at company level. A proposal by generation company is surveyed and reflected to the basic plan of electricity supply and demand. The second plan shows over 40% reserves in result of the proposals. It is the time to evaluating the proposal which covers market function in the basic plan of electricity supply and demand at the stage of market change. This research presents the need of evaluation of proposals and the methods of evaluation. Also it presents the alternative planning procedure to reflecting the evaluation methods.

  • There are studied on the evaluation of flexibility and design/operation of FMS. However. a new method that can assess the performance of FMS is propose in this study. To evalute the performance of an FMS the ordinary for total cost is not applied. Instead, a specially developed cost function is used to measure the performanced of proposed systems. The procedure is developed for deterministic variables cases. An FMS can produce various products systematically under computer control the evaluation of an FMS operation is not a simple task. The proposed procedure is done through computer simulation due to the complicated nature of the problem. A simulation model is developed using SIMAN and FORTRAN for practical application.
