Molding properties of etched surface pattern are presented. Injection molding has given attention on improving dimensional accuracy and productivity. However, the molding of etched surface pattern on plastic parts is not researched relatively for its additional values, which can meet design function and customer's attraction. Specimens, whose surface patterns are made by print-type etching, are investigated. The molding properties of surface pattern are estimated with roughness deviation of surface pattern on part and mold. The etching properties are related to physical properties of plastic materials and surface roughness of etched pattern. Also, flow mark and gate location can give influence on surface pattern molding. The experimental result can contribute to good molding of surface pattern in injection molding.
The lastest concepts in bonding are "total etch", in which both enamel and dentin are etched with an acid to remove the smear layers, and "wet dentin" in which the dentin is not blown dry but left moist before application of the bonding primer. Ideally, the application of a bonding agent to tooth structure should be insensitive to minor contamination from oral fluids. Clinically contaminations such as saliva, gingival fluid, blood and handpiece lubricant are often encountered by dentists during preparation of a restoration. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of contamination by hem-ostatic agents on shear bond strength of compomer restorations. One hundred and ten extracted human maxillary and mandibular molar teeth were collected. The teeth were cleaned from soft tissue remnant and debris and stored in physiologic solution until they were used. Small flat area on dentin of the buccal surface were wet ground serially with 400, 800 and 1200 abrasive paper on automatic polishing machine. The teeth were randomly divided into 11 groups. Each group was conditioned as follows: Group 1 : Dentin surface was not etched and not contaminated by hemostatic agents. Group2 : Dentin surface was not etched but was contaminated by Astringedent (Ultradent product Inc., Utah, U.S.A.). Group3 : Dentin surface was not etched but was contaminated by Bosmin (Jeil Phann, Korea.). Group4 : Dentin surface was not etched but was contaminated by Epri-dent (Epr Industries, NJ, U.S.A.). Group5: Dentin surface was etched and not contaminated by hemostatic agents. Group 6 : Dentin surface was etched and contaminated by Astringedent. Group7 : Dentin surface was etched and contaminated by Bosmin. Group8 : Dentin surface was etched and contaminated by Epri-dent. Group9 : Dentin surface was contaminated by Astringedent. The contaminated surface was rinsed by water and dried by compressed air. Group10 : Dentin surface was contaminated by Bosmin. The contaminated surface was rinsed by water aud dried by compresfed air. Group 11 : Dentin surface was contaminated by Epri-dent. The contaminated surface was rinsed by water and dried by compresfed air. After surface conditioning, F2000 was applicated on the conditoned dentin surface. The teeth were thermocycled in distilled water at $5^{\circ}C\;and\;55^{\circ}C$ for 1000 cycles. The samples were placed on the binder with the bonded compomer-dentin interface parallel to the lmife-edge shearing rod of the Universal testing machine(Zwick 020, Germany) running at a cross head speed of 1.0mmimin. There were no significant differences in shear bond strength between groups 1 and group 3 and 4, but group 2 showed significant decrease in shear bond strength compared with group 1. There were no significant differences in shear bond strength between group 5 and group 7 and 8, but group 6 showed significant decrease in shear bond strength compared with group 5. There were no significant differences in shear bond strength between group 5 and group 9, 10 and 11.
After etching Al-Cu alloy films using SiCl4/Cl_2/He/CHF3 mixed gas plasma, the corrosion phenomenon at the grain boundary of the etched surface and a passivation layer on the etched surface with an SF6 plasma treatment subsequent to the etching were studied. In Al-Cu alloy system, corrosion occurs rapidly on the etched surface by residual chlorine atoms, and it occurs dominantly at the grain boundaries rather than the crystalline surfaces. To prevent corrosion, the SF6 gas plasma treatment subsequent to etching was carried out. The passivation layer is composed of fluorine-related compounds on the etched Al-Cu surface after the SF6 treatment, and it suppresses effectively corrosion on the surface as the SF6 treatment pressure increases. Corrosion could be suppressed successfully with the SF6 treatment at a total pressure of 300 mTorr. To investigate the reason why corrosion could be suppressed with the SF6 treatment, behaviors of chlorine and fluorine were studied by various analysis techniques. It was also found that the residual chlorine incorporated at the grain boundary of the etched surface accelerated corrosion and could not be removed after the SF6 plasma treatment.
The purpose of this study was to observe the tensile strength of composite resins to etched dentin surface with the various methods of placing bonding agent before composite resin or placing composite resin alone. Recently extracted 60 maxillary incisors were chosen. These were divided into 6 groups: Group I : Immediate Silar adaptation to the etched dentin surface with 37% phosphoric acid for 60 seconds without bonding agent. Group II : Immediate Silar adaptation to the etched dentin surface with 37% phosphoric acid for 60 seconds with bonding agent. Group III : Silar adaptation to the etched dentin surface with 37% phosphoric acid for 60 seconds after 5 minutes of bonding agent. Group IV : Immediate Enamelite adaptation to the etched dentin surfaces with 50% phosphoric acid for 120 seconds without bonding agent. Group V : Immediate Enamelite adaptation to the etched dentin surface with 50% phosphoric acid for 120 second s with bonding again. Group VI : Enamelite adaptation to the etched dentin surface with 50% phosphoric acid for 120 seconds after 5 minutes of bonding agent. All specimens were immersed in water at $37^{\circ}C$ for 24 hours before testing. The results were as follows: 1. The tensile strength of powder/liquid composite resin system was higher than that of pastel paste composite resin system. 2. The tensile strength of the composite resin group II, III, V, & VI with bonding agent was higher than that of the composite resin group I & IV without bonding agent. 3. The tensile strength of the composite resin group III & VI after 5 minutes added to bonding agent was higher than that of the composite resin group II & V immediately added to bonding agent.

High dielectric (Ba,Sr)TiO$_3$thin films were etched in an inductively coupled plasma (ICP) as a function of C1$_2$/Ar gas mixing ratio. Under Cl$_2$(20)/Ar(80), the maximum etch rate of the BST films was 400$\AA$/min and selectivities of BST to Pt and PR were obtained 0.4 and 0.2, respectively. We investigated the etched surface of BST by x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), atomic force microscopy (AFM) and x-ray diffraction (XRD). From the result of XPS analysis, we found that residues of Ba-Cl and Ti-Cl bonds remained on the surface of the etched BST for high boiling point. The surface roughness decreased as Cl$_2$increases in C1$_2$/Ar plasma because of non-volatile etching products. This changed the nature of the crystallinity of BST. From the result of XRD analysis, the crystallinity of etched BST film maintained as similar to as-deposited BST under Ar only and Cl$_2$(20)/Ar(80). However, (100) orientation intensity of etched BST film abruptly decreased at Cl$_2$only plasma. It was caused that Cl compounds were redeposited on the etched BST surface and damaged to crystallinity of BST film during the etch process.

This study investigates the effect of the surface microstructure on the tribological characteristics of glass substrates. Chemical etching using hydrofluoric acid and ammonium hydrogen fluoride was employed to create controlled asperity structures on glass surfaces. By varying the etching time from 10 to 50 min, different surface morphologies were obtained and characterized using optical microscopy, surface roughness measurements, and water contact angle analysis. Friction tests were performed using a stainless steel ball as the counter surface to evaluate the tribological behavior of the etched specimens. The results showed that the specimen etched for 20 min exhibited the lowest and most stable friction coefficient, which was attributed to the formation of a uniform and dense asperity structure that effectively reduced the stress concentration and wear at the contact interface. In contrast, specimens etched for shorter (10 min) or longer (30-50 min) durations displayed higher friction coefficients and accelerated wear owing to nonuniform asperity structures that led to local stress concentration. Optical microscopy of the wear tracks further confirmed the superior wear resistance of the 20-minute etched specimen. These findings highlight the importance of optimizing the etching process parameters to achieve the desired surface morphology for enhanced tribological performance, suggesting the potential of chemical etching as a surface modification technique for various materials in tribological applications.
Various etching methods of optical fiber and formation of metal nano particles on the optical fiber have been proposed for fabrication of fiber optic localized surface plasmon resonance (FO LSPR) biosensors. Different types of etched optical fiber are possible by removing the cladding of optical fiber using HF (hydrofluoric acid) solution and BHF (buffered hydrofluoric acid) solution, which results in improved surface roughness when BHF solution is used. Localized surface plasmon can be formed and measured by formation of silver and gold nano particles on the etched optical fiber. The characteristics of the etched optical fiber and metal nano particles on the etched surface of the optical fiber play a key role in dictating the sensitivity of the LSPR sensors, so that the proposed results can be expected to be applied for related research on fiber optic based biosensors.
This experimental study was made to investigate the tensile strength of composite resins to etched enamel surface with a 50% phosphoric acid. Recently extraced 40 maxillary incisors were chosen. These were divied into 4 groups: Group I: Restodent adaptation to the etched enamel surface with 50% phosphoric acid. Group II: Restodent adaptation to only the ground enamel surface. Group III: Hi-pol adaptation to the etched enamel surface with 50% phosphoric acid. Group IV: Hi-pol adaptation to only the ground enamel surface. The results were as follows: 1. The tensile strength of Hi-pol showed much better results than that of Restodent. 2. Hi-pol and Restodent on the ground enamel surfaces showed little difference. 3. Adhesion to enamel increased on the average over 200% after a 50% phosphoric acid etch.
The present study was performed to evaluate the effect of Tetracycline-HCI on the change of implant surface microstructure according to application time. Implants with thermal dual acid etched surface were utilized. Implant surface was rubbed with $50mg/m{\ell}$ Tetracycline-HCI solution and sterilized saline for O.5min, 1min, 1.5min, 2min, 2.5min and 3min. respectively in the test group. Then, specimens were processed for scanning electron microscopic observation and measured surface roughness by optical interferometer. The results of this study were as follows. 1. The thermal dual acid etched surfaces showed many small peaks and valleys distributed overall surface. 2. The surface conditioning with Tetracycline-HCI and saline didn't influence on its micromorphology. In conclusion, the implant with thermal dual acid etched surface has a protective micromorphology from the detoxification with $50mg/m{\ell}$ Tetracycline-HCI and a scrubbing with cotton pellet. Therefore, the detoxification with $50mg/m{\ell}$ Tetracycline-HCI is an effective method for peri-implantitis in case implants with thermal dual acid etched surface.
