The role of hepatic stellate cells in fibrotic liver diseases

  • Hepatic stellate cells (HSCs) play essential roles in normal and pathophysiological function in liver. In steady state, HSCs contribute to retinoid storage, immune tolerance, and extracellular matrix (ECM) homeostasis. Upon liver injury, they become activated and lead to morphological and functional changes. Studies have demonstrated that activation of HSCs by various stimuli such as toxins, microbial infection, or metabolic overload can promote the fibrotic changes in liver by production of ECM. Herein, we provide current knowledge about the basic characteristics of HSCs and the mechanism by which they are activated.

  • Let $M_C=\(\array{A&C\\0&B}\)$ be a $2{\times}2$ upper triangular operator matrix acting on the Hilbert space $H{\bigoplus}K\;and\;let\;{\sigma}_w(\cdot)$ denote the Weyl spectrum. We give the necessary and sufficient conditions for operators A and B which ${\sigma}_w\(\array{A&C\\0&B}\)={\sigma}_w\(\array{A&C\\0&B}\)\;or\;{\sigma}_w\(\array{A&C\\0&B}\)={\sigma}_w(A){\cup}{\sigma}_w(B)$ holds for every $C{\in}B(K,\;H)$. We also study the Weyl's theorem for operator matrices.

  • In this paper we introduce a new paradigm of physical layer security for wireless network. Existing security protocols like internet's transport layer security protocol has some security flaws that skilled hackers could exploit. Motivated from this point we introduce a new security protocol that works in physical layer which is much less vulnerable to hackers than any other higher layers. In our proposal, we incorporate the proposed security protocol within channel coding as channel coding is an essential part of wireless communication. We utilize the flexibility to choose a generator matrix (or generator polynomial) of a particular code that selects the code words as a core of our protocol. Each pair of wireless node will select a unique generator using their security key before they started to communicate with each other.

  • Gate and data drivers are essential for driving active matrix display. In this study, we integrate drivers with a-Si:H to develop a compact, better reliability and cost effective display. We design and fabricate drivers with conventional a-Si:H thin film transistors (TFTs). The output voltages are investigated according to the input voltage, temperature and operation time. Based on these studies, we propose here a new driver to prevent gate line from the floated state. For the external coupled voltage fluctuation, the proposed driver shows better stability.

A Range-Based Localization Algorithm for Wireless Sensor Networks

  • Sensor localization has become an essential requirement for realistic applications over wireless sensor networks (WSN). In this paper we propose an ad hoc localization algorithm that is infrastructure-free, anchor-free, and computationally efficient with reduced communication. A novel combination of distance and direction estimation technique is introduced to detect and estimate ranges between neighbors. Using this information we construct unidirectional coordinate systems to avoid the reflection ambiguity. We then compute node positions using a transformation matrix [T], which reduces the computational complexity of the localization algorithm while computing positions relative to the fixed coordinate system. Simulation results have shown that at a node degree of 9 we get $90\%$ localization with $20\%$ average localization error without using any error refining schemes.

  • 본 논문에서는 터보복호기 설계를 위하여 2단 연판정 출력 비터비 알고리듬에 대수적 구조를 적용한 대수적 (algebraic) 2단 연판정 출력 비터비 알고리듬이 제시된다. 제시된 알고리듬은 대수적 구조를 이용함으로써 행렬화된 가지(branch) 및 상태(state) 메트릭의 병렬연산이 가능하다. 띠·라서 기존의 방식에 비해 곱의 연산량이 감소되며 전체 메모리가 줄어든다. 그러므로 제시된 대수적 2단 연판정 출력 비터비 알고리듬은 적은 계산량과 단순한 하드웨어가 요구되는 터보부호의 복호기에 적합할 것으로 사료된다.

  • dynamic analysis of power systems is required the information for building a transfer function of has the heavy calculation of high order matrices. Since generally the order of the state matrix is over the limit of commercial analysis programs such as MASS(Multi-Area Small Signal Stability) Program, it is necessary to develop dynamic equivalent systems with preserving essential properties of the original system. In this work, a procedurd to find an optimal location of FACTS controllers is presented. The procedure was applied to KEPCO system in the year of 2000. The results on a test system demonstrate the accuracy of dynamic equivalencing and verify the effect of FACTS controllers.

  • Bone is a dynamic organ that bone remodeling occurs throughout life and involves the process in which the bone matrix is broken down through resorption by osteoclasts and then built back again through bone formation by osteoblasts. Usually these two processes balance each other and a stable level of bone mass is maintained. We here discuss transcription factors involved in regulating the osteoblast differentiation pathway. Runx2 is a transcription factor which is essential in skeletal development by regulating osteoblast differentiation and chondrocyte maturation. Its companion subunit, Cbf${\beta}$ is needed for an early step in osteoblast differentiation pathway. Whereas Osterix(Osx) is a new identified osteoblast-specific transcription factor which is required for the differentiation of preosteoblasts into more mature and functional osteoblasts. We also discuss other transcription factors, Msx1 and 2, Dlx5 and 6, Twist, and Sp3 that affect skeletal patterning and development. Understanding the characteristics of mice in which these transcription factors are inactivated should help define their role in bone physiology and pathology of bone defects.

  • The leaf spring is generally used effectively in load supporting because it has tension-diffused function in comparison with other springs. Nowadays the leaf spring is used widely in the suspensions of automobile and trains. The stiffness and the damping characteristics of the leaf spring being essential for the performance of vehicles, the exact evaluation is required. Various approximate formula are normally used for the leaf spring design. however, accuracy and trust are decreased because the contact and frictional characteristics between leaf plates are generally neglected. In this paper, nonlinear stiffness matrix of the leaf spring is solved by contact-element applying FEM for considering the contact and frictional characteristics between leaf plates. The results of proposed FE model are compared with test data.

Modeling of fractional magneto-thermoelasticity for a perfect conducting materials

  • A unified mathematical model of the equations of generalized magneto-thermoelasticty based on fractional derivative heat transfer for isotropic perfect conducting media is given. Some essential theorems on the linear coupled and generalized theories of thermoelasticity e.g., the Lord- Shulman (LS) theory, Green-Lindsay (GL) theory and the coupled theory (CTE) as well as dual-phase-lag (DPL) heat conduction law are established. Laplace transform techniques are used. The method of the matrix exponential which constitutes the basis of the state-space approach of modern theory is applied to the non-dimensional equations. The resulting formulation is applied to a variety of one-dimensional problems. The solutions to a thermal shock problem and to a problem of a layer media are obtained in the present of a transverse uniform magnetic field. According to the numerical results and its graphs, conclusion about the new model has been constructed. The effects of the fractional derivative parameter on thermoelastic fields for different theories are discussed.
