This paper derives the symbol error probability for quadrature amplitude modulation(QAM) with L-fold space diversity in Rayleigh fading channels. Two combining techniques, maximal ratio combining(MRC) and selection combining(SC), are considered. The formula for MRC space diversity is obtained by averaging the symbol error probability of M-ary QAM in an additive white Gaussian noise(AWGN) channel over a chi-square distribution with 2L degrees of freedom. The obtained formula overcomes the limitations of the earlier work, which has been limited only to deriving the symbol error rate(SER) of QAM with two branch MRC space diversity. The formula for SC space diversity is obtained by averaging the symbol error probability of M-ary QAM in an AWGN channel over the distribution of the maximum signal-to noise ratio among all of the diversity channels for SC space diversity has been reported yet. Analytical results show that the probability of error decreases with the order of diversity gain per additional branch decreases as the number of branches becomes larger. On the other hand, the performance of 16 QAM with MRC becomes much better than that of SC as the number of branches becomes larger. By giving the order of diversity, L, and the number of signal points, M, we have been able to obtain the SER performance of QAM with general space diversity. These results can be used to determine the order of diversity to achieve the desired SER in land mobile communication system employing QAM modulation.

In this paper, we analyze the effects of estimation error in the active cancellation signal, which is intended to counter the pulsed-CW signal of a hostile radar. We also examine the effects of estimation error in maximum-likelihood estimation (MLE) and quadratic interpolation scheme from a radar signal active cancellation viewpoint. Then, we modify the correlation-based error compensation scheme which mitigates the estimation error of MLE to improve the performance of the active cancellation signal. Finally, we present simulation results to show that the correlation-based scheme has better performance than the other in terms of radar signal active cancellation.
The success of target reconstruction in SAR(Synthetic Aperture Radar) imaging system is greatly dependent on the coherent detection. Primary causes of incoherent detection are uncompensated target or sensor motion, random turbulence in propagation media, wrong path in radar platform, and etc. And these appear as multiplicative phase error to the echoed signal, which consequently, causes fatal degradations such as fading or dislocation of target image. In this paper, we present iterative phase error estimation scheme which uses echoed data in all temporal frequencies. We started with analyzing wave equation for one point target and extend to overall echoed data from the target scene - The two wave equations governing the SAR signal at two temporal frequencies of the radar signal are combined to derive a method to reconstruct the complex phase error function. Eventually, this operation attains phase error correction algorithm from the total received SAR signal. We verify the success of the proposed algorithm by applying it to the simulated spotlight-mode SAR data.
In many medical image devices, dc noise often prevents normal diagnosis. In wireless capsule endoscopy systems, multipath fading through indoor wireless links induces inter-symbol interference (ISI) and indoor electric devices generate impulsive noise in the received signal. Moreover, dc noise, ISI, and impulsive noise are also found in optical fiber communication that can be used in remote medical diagnosis. In this paper, a blind signal processing method based on the biased probability density functions of constant modulus error that is robust to those problems that can cause error propagation in decision feedback (DF) methods is presented. Based on this property of robustness to error propagation, a DF version of the method is proposed. In the simulation for the impulse response of optical fiber channels having slowly varying dc noise and impulsive noise, the proposed DF method yields a performance enhancement of approximately 10 dB in mean squared error over its linear counterpart.
The set of admissible time-variations in the input signal can be separated into two categories : slow parameter changes and large parameter changes which occur infrequently. A common approach used in the tracking of slowly time-varying parameters is the exponential recursive least-squares(RLS) algorithm. There have been a variety of research works on the error analysis of the exponential RLS algorithm for the slowly time-varying parameters. In this paper, the focus has been given to the error analysis of exponential RLS algorithms for the input data with abrupt property changes. The voiced speech signal is chosen as the principal application. In order to analyze the error performance of the exponential RLS algorithm, deterministic properties of the exponential RLS algorithms is first analyzed for the case of abrupt parameter changes, the impulsive input(or error variance) synchronous to the abrupt change of parameter vectors actually enhances the convergence of the exponential RLS algorithm. The analysis has also been verified through simulations on the synthetic speech signal.

Performance of a force-torque sensor is affected significantly by an error signal that is included in the sensor signal. The error sources may be classified mainly into two categories: one is a structural error due to inaccuracy of sensor body, and the other is a noise signal existing in sensed information. This paper presents a principle of 6-axis force-torque sensor briefly, a double-hole structure to be able to improve a structural error, and then a signal conditioning to reduce the effect of a noise signal. The validity of the proposed method is investigated through experimental study, which shows that SIN ratio is improved significantly in our experimental setup, and the sensor can be implemented cheaply with reasonable performance.

Degradation of communication quality is due to transmission error rather than quantization noise when DPCM signal is transmitted over a heavily noise channel. The communication quality can be improved by employing an error correcting code to the DPCM signal transmission over such a channel. We considered both quantization noise and transmission error simultaneously in evaluating the signal to noise ratio. To efficiently improve the signal to noise ratio, we analyze the unequal symbol error probability of convolutional code, and encoded to more protect significant symbols from channel errors than least ones, so that the signal to noise ratio is improved. We derived related formulas and also made computer simulations.

As the railway transportation is getting faster and its operation speed has increased rapidly, its signal control has been complicated. For real time signal processing it is very important to prohibit any critical error from causing the system to malfunction. Today, most of the railroad's controling communications between wayside and train are made in one way. Therefore, by using a forward error correction technique, which receiver can actively correct the signal error, we can increase the performance and the stability of the railroad signaling system. In this paper, we introduce low density parity check(LDPC) that is used by next generation wireless communications and DMB technique. We verified that we can achieve low bit error rate(BER) in high signal to noise ratio(SNR) by using LDPC.
There are many control methods guaranteeing the robustness of systems. Among them, H$\infty$ control, sliding mode control and disturbance observer have been used widely. Especially, disturbance observer(DOB) is one of the most popular methods because it is easy to apply and the cost to pay is low due to its simplicity. Conventional DOB utilizes output signal as a feedback signal. But in Optical Disk Drive(ODD) systems, the Position Error Signal(PES) is the only available one. So conventional DOB is not applicable. If we use error signal in stead of output signal, another form of DOB is made. We call it as Error based Disturbance Observer(EDOB). We show in this paper the difference between two systems, namely conventional DOB system and the EDOB system, and also show the effectiveness of EDOB through experiment.

In the conventional generalized side-lobe canceller (GSC), the output is an estimated error signal that causes the adaptive filter weights do not converge to the optimal value. This paper presents a new side-lobe canceller with adaptive compensator th it reduces the misadjustment of the adaptive filter coefficients for the structural problem in the GSC. The adaptive compensator separates the output signal from the estimated error. The newly estimated error signal converges to the zero while the output signal tracks the target signal. This paper shows improvement of the performance by comparing the computer simulation of the output signal of GSC with the output signal of the proposed algorithm.
