  • This paper presents design procedures of a transverse flux linear motor (TFLM). The minimum and maximum flux linkage was determined by the simplified equivalent magnetic circuit and estimated average magnetic flux density at the air gap region by considering the shape of applied magnetomotive force (MMF). With this information, the number of turns of each phase winding was calculated based on the amplitude of applied voltage and speed of a mover. The rated current, coil diameter, and winding area were obtained with the aid of an empirical formula for determining the required MMF. The usefulness of the proposed design method for TFLM is verified by the three-dimensional equivalent magnetic circuit network (EMCN) method and the experimental results of prototyped machine.

  • This paper proposes a novel electrical characterization approach for a high-performance package system using an improved Partial Element Equivalent Circuit (PEEC). As the effect of interconnects becomes a pivotal factor for the performance of high-speed electronic systems, there is a great demand for an accurate equivalent model for interconnects. In particular, an equivalent model of interconnects is established in this paper for the Fine-Pitch Ball Grid Array (FBGA) package using the improved PEEC method. Based on the equivalent model, electrical characteristics are analyzed; furthermore, these are verified through the measurement results of a Vector Network Analyzer (VNA).

  • In this paper, a new time-domain reduction method for unbalanced 3 phase power systems will be represented. The impulse response of the system is used to identify a discrete-time equivalent filter model. The model is formulated directly in the phase domain. Each phase has a self-mode equivalent model and two mutual-mode equivalent models. The equivalent model is determined by the transfer function identification technique based on the Prony analysis. The model is implemented in EMTDC and tested with an unbalanced 3 phase network. The result of test showed that the equivalent model is accurate.

  • In this paper, we proposed a high frequency equivalent circuit considering parasitic impedance components for differential noise analysis on the input stage during DC-DC buck converter switching operation. Based on the proposed equivalent circuit model, we presented a method to measure parasitic impedance parameters included in DC bus plate, IGBT, and PCB track using the gain phase method of a network analyzer. In order to verify the validity of this model, a DC-DC prototype consisting of a buck converter, a signal analyzer, and a LISN device, and then resonance frequency was measured in the frequency range between 150 kHz and 30 MHz. The validity of the parasitic impedance measurement method and the proposed equivalent model is verified by deriving that the measured resonance frequency and the resonance frequency of the proposed high frequency equivalent model are the same.

  • This paper presents an analysis of the permanent magnet overhang effect for the permanent magnetic actuator. Generally, the overhang is often used to increase the force density in permanent magnet machineries. The overhang is particularly profitable in reducing the volume after increasing the force density per volume when using the overhang effect of the permanent magnet. Therefore, the 3D Equivalent Magnetic Circuit Network Method (3D EMCN) has been used in this paper. According to the plunger position, the flux distribution per overhang length and the holding force are quantitatively compared. Furthermore, an appropriate length of the overhang has been proposed. To confirm the accuracy of the analysis method, the results of 2D FEM and 3D FEM are compared for the basic model.

  • A research on thermal analysis method is conducted for the characterization of heat generation during operation of Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor(IPMSM) for Light Railway Transits(LRT) in this paper. Efficient cooling of the heat generated in the IPMSM is important because the excessive heat generated from the winding, core and permanent magnet makes it harder for a long time continuous operation of IPMSM. Therefore, in order to analyze the heat generation characteristics of the 110kW-class IPMSM as advanced research for application the IPMSM to the cooling device, the heat transfer coefficients for each component of the 110 kW-class IPMSM were derived and the thermal equivalent network was configured to perform the thermal analysis in this study. Finally, the 110kW-class IPMSM prototype is made and a comparative verification between the test data and the thermal analysis results through its various performance tests are carried out.

  • The recent power systems are very complex and to model them completely is impractical for analysis of electromagnetic transient Therefore areas outside the immediate area of interest must be represented by some form of Frequency Dependent Network Equivalent (FDNE). In this paper a method for developing Frequency Dependent Network Equivalent (FDNE) using S-domain rational Function Fitting is presented and demonstrated. The FDNE is generated by Linearized Least Squares Fitting(LSF) of the frequency response of a S-domain formulation. This Three-port FDNE have been applied to the test AC power system. The electromagnetic transient package PSCAD/EMTDC is used to assess the transient response of the Three-port FDNE developed under different condition. The study results have indicated the robustness and accuracy of Three-port FDNE for analisys of electromagnetic transient and harmonic assessment.

  • The receiving responses of a bistatic GPR system are analyzed by using three-dimensional FDTD method and equivalent network model. The conventional delta-gap feed model may be inaccurate because of neglecting the impedance matching characteristics between the antenna and the transmission line. In this paper, the feed model is improved by considering the physical characteristics of the actual GPR. The actually received voltage is calculated by employing the equivalent network model in angular frequency-domain, which is composed by using the results of three-dimensional FDTD analysis for an actual bistatic GPR system. The validity of the presented model is assured by showing the convergence of the computed results to the measured data.
