This study provides a method and data for predicting the flight initiation wind speed of wind-borne debris. From the force equilibrium acting on debris including aerodynamic and inertia forces, the equation for predicting the flight initiation wind speeds are presented. Wind tunnel tests were carried out to provide necessary aerodynamic data in the equation for the debris with various aspect ratios. The proposed equation for flight initiation wind speeds was validated from free flying tests in the wind tunnel. The flights of debris were mostly initiated by slip when width to thickness was less than 10, otherwise overturning were dominant. The actual flight initiation speeds were lower than that of the computed ones. The surface boundary layer flow and the gap between the debris and surface might affect the prediction error.
Objective : The purpose of this study was to investigate the biomechanical properties of shock absorption strategy and postural stability during the drop landing for each types. Methods : The motions were captured with Vicon Motion Capture System, with the fourteen infra-red cameras (100Hz) and synchronized with GRF(ground reaction force) data(1000Hz). Ten male soccer players performed a drop landing with single-leg and bi-legs on the 30cm height box. Dependent variables were the CoM trajectory and the Joint Moment. Statistical computations were performed using the paired t-test and ANOVA with Turkey HSD as post-hoc. Results : The dominant leg was confirmed to show a significant difference between the left leg and right leg as the inverted pendulum model during Drop Landing(Phase 1 & Phase 2). One-leg drop landing type had the higher CoM displacement, the peak of joint moment with the shock absorption than Bi-leg landing type. As a lower extremity joint kinetics analysis, the knee joint showed a function of shock absorption in the anterior-posterior, and the hip joint showed a function of the stability and shock absorption in the medial-lateral directions. Conclusion : These findings indicate that the instant equilibrium of posture balance(phase 1) was assessed by the passive phase as Class 1 leverage on the effect of the stability of shock absorption(phase 2) assessed by the active phase on the effect of Class 2 leverage. Application : This study shows that the cause of musculo-skeletal injuries estimated to be focused on the passive phase of landing and this findings could help the prevention of lower damage from loads involving landing related to the game of sports.
This paper presents a unified modeling technique for tension stiffening effect in structural concrete members. The model is mathematically derived from the bond stress-slip relationships which account for splitting crack. The relationships in CEB-FIP Model Code 1990 and Eurocode 2 are employed together with the assumptions of a linear slip distribution along the interface and the uniform condition of concrete tensile contribution for the mid section of cracked member at the stabilized cracking stage. With these assumptions, a model of tension stiffening effect is proposed by accounting for the force equilibrium and strain compatibility condition associated to the steel strain and concrete contribution by bond stress. The model is applied to the test results available in literatures, and the predicted values are shown to be in good agreement with the experimentally measured behavior.
The purpose of this study is to construct a dynamic traffic analysis model using the existing traffic flow theory in order to develope a dynamic traffic assignment technique. In this study the dynamic traffic analysis model was constructed using Daganzo's CELL TRANSMISSION THEORY which was considered more suitable to dynamic traffic assignment than the other traffic flow theories. We developed newly the diverging split module, the cost update module and the link cost function and defined the maximum waiting time decision function that Daganzo haven't defined certainly at his Papers. The output that resulted from the simulation of the dynamic traffic analysis model with test network I and II was shown at some tables and figures, and the analysis of the bottleneck and the HOV lane theory showed realistic outputs. Especially, the result of traffic assignment using the model doesn't show equilibrium status every time slice but showed that the average travel cost of every path maintains similarly in every time slice. It is considered that this model can be used at the highway operation and the analysis of traffic characteristics at a diverging section and the analysis of the HOV lane effect.

A method to calculate stability limits is investigated to predict the characteristics of high-frequency combustion instability in liquid-propellant rocket engine. It is based on the theory of linear stability analysis proposed in previous works and useful to predict combustion stability at the beginning stage of engine development. The system of equations governing reactive flow in combustor has the simplified and linearized forms. The overall equation expressing stability limits is adopted. The procedures to evaluate quantitatively each term included in the equation are proposed. The thermo-chemical properties and flow variables required in the evaluation can be obtained from calculation of thermodynamic equilibrium, CFD results, and experimental test data. Based on the existent data, stability limits are calculated with actual rocket engine (KSR-III rocket engine). The present calculations show the reasonable stability limits in a quantitative manner and the stability characteristics of the engine are discussed. The prediction from linear stability analysis could be serve as the first approximation to the true prediction.
This study generalizes the lateral load-displacement relationship of reinforced concrete shear walls from the section analysis for moment-curvature response to straightforwardly evaluate the flexural capacity and ductility of such members. Moment and curvature at different selected points including the first flexural crack, yielding of tensile reinforcing bar, maximum strength, 80% of the maximum strength at descending branch, and fracture of tensile reinforcing bar are calculated based on the strain compatibility and equilibrium of internal forces. The strain at extreme compressive fiber to determine the curvature at the descending branch is formulated as a function of reduction factor of maximum stress of concrete and volumetric index of lateral reinforcement using the stress-strain model of confined concrete proposed by Razvi and Saatcioglu. The moment prediction models are simply formulated as a function of tensile reinforcement index, vertical reinforcement index, and axial load index from an extensive parametric study. Lateral displacement is calculated by using the moment area method of idealized curvature distribution along the wall height. The generalized lateral load-displacement relationship is in good agreement with test result, even at the descending branch after ultimate strength of shear walls.
Embankment Piles, which is subjected to damage due to lateral movement of soft ground, can be classified into pile slab, cap beam pile, and isolated cap pile according to the installation pattern of pile cap. In the cap beam pile and the isolated cap pile method, the soil arch is developed by the different stiffness between pile and soil, and most embankment loads are transferred into embankment piles through soil arch. In these two methods, the difference of soil arch is that the soil arch of the cap beam pile method develops like the arch from of tunnel between cap beams and the soil arch of the isolated cap pile method develops like dome between isolated caps. Therefore, theoretical analysis methods on soil arching effect of the cap beam pile and the isolated cap pile method were respectively proposed according to their own arch form considering the limiting equilibrium of stresses in a crown of soil arch. And a series of model tests were performed both to investigate the load transfer by soil arching in fills above embankment piles and to verify the reliability of the theoretical analysis.
Recent researches on debris flow is focused on understanding its movement mechanism and building a numerical simulator to predict its behavior. However, previous simulators emulating fluid-like debris flow have limitations in numerical stability, geometric modeling and application of various boundary conditions. In this study, depth integration is applied to continuity equation and force equilibrium for debris flow. Thickness of sediment, and average velocities in x and y flow direction are chosen for main variables in the analysis, which improve numerical stability in the area with zero thickness. Petrov-Galerkin formulation uses a discontinuous test function of the weighted matrix from DG scheme. Presented mechanical constitutive model combines fluid and granular behaviors for debris flow. Effects on slope angle, inducing debris height, and bottom friction resistance are investigated for a simple slope. Numerical results also show the effect of embankment at the bottom of the slope. Developed numerical simulator can assess various risk factors for the expected area of debris flow, and facilitate embankment design in order to minimize damage.
Picea jezoensis (Sieb. et Zucc.) Carriere is one of the major and widespread components of the cold-temperate and boreal forests in Russian Far East, northeast China, Korea, and Japan. However, it is restricted to a highly fragmented range in South Korea with small populations. Mean expected heterozygosity $(H_e)$ based on 22 loci in 11 isozyme systems was 0.077 for four sampled populations that covered the whole distribution range of P. jezoensis in South Korea. This value is within the range reported for conifers, but it is very low compared to that of other spruce species as well as that of P. jezoensis populations in Russian Far East. Most populations had a slight excess of heterozygotes and the Wright's $F_{IS}$ (-0.019) was comparable to that previously reported for other spruce species. In all of the four populations, the Wilcoxon sign-rank test indicated no greater heterozygosity than that expected for populations at mutation-drift equilibrium, suggesting that the populations have not been bottlenecked recently. Despite a fragmented range and isolated populations, population differentiation was not high $(F_{ST}=0.047)$ and the number of migrants per generation was 5.09. Nei's genetic distances were also small $({\bar{D}}=0.005)$ but strongly related to geographic distances between populations, suggesting an Isolation by Distance. The northernmost isolate, Mt. Gyebang population was genetically distinct from the other three populations. Implications for the conservation of genetic variation of P. jezoensis in South Korea were discussed.

This study attempted to utilize ultrafine precipitated calcium carbonate for fluoride removal from the wastewater of electronics industries. An average particle size of the calcium carbonate was $0.96{\mu}m$, and pH of the aqueous slurry was 10 with 70% in mass. The suspension solution showed approximately 2 mL/hr of the sedimentation rate. The present calcium carbonate solution could be comparable to the conventional aqueous calcium source, $Ca(OH)_2$, for the neutralization and removal of fluoride ions. Depending on the amount of an additional alkali source, less amounts of test Ca-source slurries were required to reach the solution pH of 7.0 than that of using the aqueous calcium hydroxide. It was also found from XRD analysis that more calcium fluoride precipitates were formed by the addition of calcium carbonate solution rather than that of calcium hydroxide. In addition, Minteq equilibrium modelling estimated various ion complexes of fluoride and calcium in this process.
