  • Results of two-part wedge analysis and centrifuge test executed by Zornberg et al. were compared for geotextile-reinforced slope stability. For two-part wedge analysis results of two cases, a frictional case considering internal friction of soil as interwedge friction and a nonfrictional case not considering, were also compared and evaluated. The analysis was based on limit equilibrium and two-part wedge was divided into slices as many as the number of geotextiles to obtain a maximum tension distribution mobilized in reinforcements. A significant observation was that the distribution was a triangular shape with maximum tension of geotextile at a transit point of interwedge. The number of geotextiles and failure surface of frictional case were reasonable and more comparable to results of the centrifuge tests than those of nonfrictional case. Therefore it can be said that two-part wedge analysis is recommendable for design analysis of reinforced slopes if an interwedge angle is regarded to be an angle of internal friction in soil.

  • This study tests for the law of one price and Grander Causality between the EU ETS and Nord Pool $CO_2$ allowance prices. The Johansen cointegration test shows that there exists a long run equilibrium between EU ETS and Nord Pool prices and support the law of one price. The Granger casuality test suggests that the EU ETS leads Nord Pool for all vintages traded. The test results imply that the EU ETS can be regarded as the representative carbon market in the EU where many exchanges just started competing for the newly rising market for carbon.

  • Investors have increasingly become interested in macroeconomic antecedents in order to better understand the investment environment and estimate the scope of profitable investment in equity markets. This study endeavors to examine the interdependency between the macroeconomic antecedents (international oil price (COP), Domestic gold price (GP), Rupee-dollar exchange rates (ER), Real interest rates (RIR), consumer price indices (CPI)), and the BSE Sensex and Nifty 50 index return. The data is converted into a natural logarithm for keeping it normal as well as for reducing the problem of heteroscedasticity. Monthly time series data from January 1992 to July 2019 is extracted from the Reserve Bank of India database with the application of financial Econometrics. Breusch-Godfrey serial correlation LM test for removal of autocorrelation, Breusch-Pagan-Godfrey test for removal of heteroscedasticity, Cointegration test and VECM test for testing cointegration between macroeconomic factors and market returns,] are employed to fit regression model. The Indian market returns are stable and positive but show intense volatility. When the series is stationary after the first difference, heteroskedasticity and serial correlation are not present. Different forecast accuracy measures point out macroeconomics can forecast future market returns of the Indian stock market. The step-by-step econometric tests show the long-run affiliation among macroeconomic antecedents.

  • As the expansion of road capacity has become impractical in many urban areas, congestion pricing has been widely considered as an effective method to reduce urban traffic congestion in recent years. The principal reason is that the congestion pricing may lead the user equilibrium (UE) flow pattern to system optimum (SO) pattern in road network. In the context of network equilibrium, the link tolls according to the marginal cost pricing principle can user an UE flow to a SO pattern. Thus, the pricing method offers an efficient tool for moving toward system optimal traffic conditions on the network. This paper proposes a continuous network design program (CNDP) in network equilibrium condition, in order to find optimal congestion toll for maximizing net economic benefit (NEB). The model could be formulated as a bi-level program with continuous variable(congestion toll) such that the upper level problem is for maximizing the NEB in elastic demand, while the lower level is for describing route choice of road users. The bi-level CNDP is intrinsically nonlinear, non-convex, and hence it might be difficult to solve. So, we suggest a heuristic solution algorithm, which adopt derivative information of link flow with respect to design parameter, or congestion toll. Two example networks are used for test of the model proposed in the paper.

  • This paper describes the batch test results for application of CFW(Carbonized Foods Waste), which was produced by the process of recycling waste, in PRB system. It analyzed characteristics for individual adsorption and competitive adsorption of Cu and Zn in heavy metals. In individual adsorption, the Langmuir and Freundlich models are used to predict adsorption equilibrium. The adsorption equilibrium corresponded to the Langmuir's and the maximum adsorption amount of Cu was greater than Zn's. The removal of heavy metal is predicted that Zn was faster than Cu. The reaction rate of Zn based on Pseudo-first-order and Pseudo-second-order was faster than Cu's, and the result of competitive adsorption test confirmed that the adsorption amount of Zn is reduced under similar condition for competitive adsorption rate of Cu and Zn. When Zn solution is mixed in Cu, Cu is adsorbed 86% on CFW. However, the adsorption of Zn is 19% on the contrary condition. Therefore, the removal characteristics of separate heavy metal should be considered for efficient treatment of contaminated ground based on complex heavy metal.

  • In this study, we developed a program of optimizing stand-level carbon stock using a stand-level yield model and the Simulated Annealing (SA) heuristic method to derive a optimized forest treatment solution. The SA is one of the heuristic algorithms that can provide a desirable management solution when dealing with various management purposes. The SA heuristic algorithm applied 'thermal equilibrium test', a thresholds approach to solve the phenomenon that does not find an optimum solution and stays at a local optimum value during the process. We conducted a sensitivity test for the temperature reduction rate, the major parameter of the thermal equilibrium test, to analyze its influence on the objective function value and the total iteration of the optimization process. Using the developed program, three scenarios were compared: a common treatment in forestry (baseline), the optimized solution of maximizing the amount of harvest(alternative 1), and the optimized solution of maximizing the amount of carbon stocks(alternative 2). As the results, we found that the alternative 1 showed provide acceptable solutions for the objectives. From the sensitivity test, we found that the objective function value and the total iteration of the process can be significantly influenced by the temperature reduction rate. The developed program will be practically used for optimizing stand-level carbon stock and developing optimized treatment solutions.

  • This paper is an experimental and numerical work of Investigating the bearing capacity of shallow foundation of rubble mound under eccentric loads. Parametric centrifuge model tests at the 50g level environments with the model footings in the form of strip footing were performed by changing the loading location of model footing, relative density and materials for ground foundation. For the model ground, crushed rock sampled from a rocky mountain was prepared with a grain size distribution of having an identical coefficient of uniformity to the field condition. Model ground was also prepared with relative densities of 50 % and 80 %. For loading condition, model tests with and without eccentric load were carned out to investigate the effect of eccentric loads and a numerical analysis with the commertially available software of FLAC was performed. For numerical estimation with FLAC, the hyperbolic model of a nonlinear elastic constitutive relationship was used to simulate the stress-stram constitutive relationship of model ground and a series of triaxial compression test were carried out to find the parameters for this model Test results were analyzed and compared with Meyerhof method (1963), effective area method based on the limit equilibrium method, and a numerical analysis with FLAC.

  • This study aimed to analyze the relationship between sea temperatures and anchovy catch of Anchovy drag net fishery using annual time series data from 1970 to 2013. In the analysis, time series data on variables (CPUE, sea surface temperature, and 10m temperature) were estimated to be non-stationary from unit root tests, but one long-term equilibrium relation among variables was found from a cointegration test. From an exclusion test, a 10m temperature would not have relations with CPUE and sea surface temperature. The result of regression analysis on sea surface temperature and anchovy catch indicated that the sea surface temperature would have positive impacts on the anchovy catch. It means that when the sea surface temperature would increase, all other things including the current level of fishing effort being equal, the catch of anchovy was predicted to increase. More specifically, the result showed that when 1% of sea surface temperature increases, CPUE would be increased by 2.81%.

  • Welding process is of importance to assemble products or structures, but also the process is structural weakness due to stress concentration in welding joint. The fatigue design of welded joint requires time & labor consuming fatigue test because the fatigue life is various according to the depth of joint, joint type and load type etc. In fatigue design codes, they guide to classify welding joints with their shape( BS7608, IIW Documents) and provide fatigue assessment information. In terms of numerical method for fatigue analysis, it is also difficult to decide the stress peak in joint because of mesh sensitivity which means that stress value is varies with element type or size on stress concentration zone. Hot-spot method is used generally, but Battelle of United States proposed Master S-N Curve based on structural stresses converted by mechanical equilibrium theory. In this research, we extracted master S-N curve from Battelle's fatigue test DB including test data of various welding joints to apply on Non-Load-Carrying cruciform Joint. Comparing fatigue results between the case of using normal stress and case of structural stress cor the cruciform Joint, The suggested Battelle method showed successive results.

  • Aim: To study the contribution of genetic variation in RAD51 to risk of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC). Methods: Three single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in RAD51 (rs1801320, rs4144242 and rs4417527) were genotyped in 316 ESCC patients and 316 healthy controls in Anyang area of China using PCR-RFLP (polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism). Demographic variables between cases and controls were statistically compared by T test and Chi-square test. Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium was evaluated by the Chi-square test. Odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were calculated to measure any association with ESCC. Haplotype frequencies were estimated by Phase 2.1. Result: The genotype frequencies of rs1801320, rs4144242 and rs4417527 in patients with ESCC demonstrated no significant differences from those in control group (P>0.05). When the haplotypes of these three SNPs were constructed and their relationships with ESCC risk investigated, however, CGG was observed to increase the risk (P=0.020, OR=2.289). Conclusions: There was no association between the three SNPs of RAD51 and ESCC susceptibility in our Chinese population. However, the CGG haplotype might be a risk factor.
