  • Epoxy resin has wide application in various industrial fields because of their good mechanical strength, superiority adhesion and low shrinkage etc. And the typical curing method for epoxy resins is thermal and press compaction. However, a curing method was used electron beam process in this study. Epoxy acrylate was fabricated from mixture of epoxy, acrylic acid, tetraphenylporphyrin (TPP) and hydroquinone monomethyl ether (MEHQ) with mole ratios. Then electron beam irradiation effect on the curing of the epoxy acrylate resin was investigated various absorption dose in nitrogen atmospheres at room temperature. The dynamic mechanical and thermal properties of the irradiated epoxy acrylate resins were characterized using dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA) and thermogravimetric analyzer (TGA). And the tensile and flexural strength were measured by an universal tensile machine (UTM).

  • In this study the investigation were carried out on short-term breakdown characteristics of the compound material dependent on change of filler quantity, ambient temperature(room temperature~[$190[^{\circ}C$]) and kinds of voltage sources for the compound materials of Bisphenol- A epoxy resins filled with $SiO_2$ particles. As the results, obtained the dielectric breakdown strength generally decrease as increasing the quantity of filler and the distance, spacing of each's particles, decrease as increasing the quantity of filler, when the distance is less than [$7.5\mu\textrm{m}$], dielectric breakdown strength is nearly constant. In the case on AC voltage dielectric strength of filled epoxy resins is stronger than nonfilled epoxy resins on temperature region more than $130[^{\circ}C$].

  • We carried out aminolyses of various rigid polyurethane foams (PUFs) using diethylene triamine and studied application of the aminolysis products as hardners of epoxy resins. Diglycidyl ether of bisphenol A was used for the study on the curing behavior of epoxy resin with the aminolysis product employing differential scanning calorimeter. Curing reaction of the epoxy resin is generally known to be autocatalytic second order reaction. We found that the curing reaction of the epoxy resin with the aminolysis product of rigid PUF did not show autocatalytic characteristics but followed the n-th order kinetics. The activation energy of the curing reaction of the epoxy resin with the aminolysis product of rigid PUF made from sugar based polyol was slightly lower than that of the epoxy resin with aminolysis product of rigid with made from amine based polyol.

  • The machine tool structures for ultra-precision machining muxt be manufactured with materials which have high static and dynamic stiffness, high damping, a long term dimensional and thermal stability. This study aims at the development of new composite material Epoxy-Granite which exhibits the satisfactory characteristics as a material of ultra-precision mchine tool bed. The Epoxy-Granite testpieces that use epoxy resins as a binder and granite particles as a aggregate have been manufactured so as to examine the material properties about mechanical, thermal and damping characteristics. Experiments were carried out to obtain the proper manufacturing conditions of Expoxy-Granite specimens by varying the several testing conditions such as types of epoxy resins, particle sizes of granite and mixture ratio of epoxy resin and aggregate. Also, when Epoxy-Granite was compared with cast iron, GRANITAN which was imported from CMS of U.K. and granite materials, it has exhibited the superior or almost the same mechanical and damping properties and thermal conductivity, except for the thermal expansion.

  • The indirect technique for making cast restoration requires that dies be as accurate and durable as possible. Currently, stone is the most commonly used material for die. However, it has some problems such as the weakness in its strength and low abrasion resistance. Recently, epoxy resin die systems have become available. The purpose of this study was to examine two commercially available resin die systems and evaluate some characteristics for their clinical performance. This study evaluated the dimensional accuracy of epoxy resins and their wettability with impression materials. In this study, the first experiment was about dimensional accuracy of different die materials. The master model was made of stainless steel. 10 models were made of two epoxy resins (Die-epoxy, Tri-epoxy) and a die stone (Fujirock) each. Occlusal diameter (Dimension I), occluso-gingival height (Dimension II), and interabutment distance (Dimension III) were measured in each model. Next, the contact angles of die materials with impression materials were observed. The blocks were made of polyether, hydrophilic additional silicone, polysulfide impression materials. By drop-ping the same amount (0.05ml) of Tri-epoxy, Die-epoxy, and die stone on the blocks, 10 samples of each die material were made. After setting of materials, the contact angles were measured. The results of this study were as follows. 1. The expansion of stone die and the shrinkage of resin dies in occlusal diameter were observed, and stone and Tri-epoxy were expanded and Die-epoxy was shrinked in occluso-gingival height. There was little change among materials in interabutment distance (p<0.05). 2. In comparison with the master model Tri-epoxy had the least variation in measurement of the three die systems examined. Die-epoxy was next, and die stone showed the greatest variation. 3. The compatibility of die stone for polyether, hydrophilic additional silicone, polysulfide decreased in order, wherease epoxy materials had the decreased compatibility for polyether and polysulnde, hydrophilic additional silicone in order. It was not statistically different between polyether and polysulfide (p<0.05). 4. The contact angles of Tri-epoxy, Die-epoxy, die stone were getting bigger in order.

  • In the paper, mild solvent soluble alkyl group modified epoxy resins were prepared via a three-step method; (1) the condensation reaction of dodecyl phenol (DP) and formaldehyde, (2) the crosslinking reaction of dodecyl phnol novolac compound (DPC) and bisphenol A diglycidyl ether, (3) the dodecyl phenol novolac epoxy resins containing fatty acid (DPFA) was prepared by introducing fatty acid to DPC. Equivalent ratios of DP and formaldehyde were 1.25~1.333/1.0. Equivalent ratio of DPC and bisphenol A diglycidyl ether (YD-128) was 1.0/2.0. Reactivity, viscosity, molecular weight, solvent solubility, and physical properties of DPFA were investigated. The result show that as the number of aromatic ring of DPFA increased, viscosity increased and solvent solubility improved. When we test the properties of coatings by blending the synthesized DPFA with a white pigment, DPFAC-5 using triphenylphosphine (TPP) as a ring-open catalyst showed optical performance for drying time, adhesion, hardness, impact resistance, acid resistance and storage stability.

  • Epoxy resins are widely used as high performance thermosets in many industrial applications, such as coatings, adhesives and composites. Recently, a lot of research has been carried out in order to improve their mechanical properties and thermal stability in various fields. Carbon nanotubes possess high physical and mechanical properties that are considered to be ideal reinforcing materials in composites. CNT-reinforced epoxy system hold the promise of delivering superior composite materials with their high strength, light weight and multi functional features. Therefore, this study used multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWNT) and gamma rays to improve the mechanical and thermal properties of epoxy. The diglycidyl ether of bisphenol A (DGEBA) as epoxy resins were cured by gamma ray irradiation with well-dispersed MWNTs as a reinforcing agent and triarylsulfonium hexafluoroantimonate (TASHFA) as an initiator. The flexural modulus was measured by UTM (universal testing machine). At this point, the flexural modulus factor exhibits an upper limit at 0.1 wt% MWNT. The thermal properties had improved by increasing the content of MWNT in the result of TGA (thermogravimetric analysis). However, they were decreased with increasing the radiation dose. The change of glass transition temperature by the radiation dose was characterized by DMA (dynamic mechanical analysis).

  • Immobilization method of lariat azacrown ethers, containing hydroxyl group in the side arm of crown ring, on the polymer matrix and the phase-transfer catalytic activity of thus obtained immobilized lariat azacrown ethers were studied. Polystyrene resins with crown ether structures and hydroxyl groups adjacent to the macrorings were prepared by the reaction of crosslinked polystyrene resins containing epoxy groups with monoaza-15-crown-5 or monoaza-18-crown-6. Microporous crosslinked polystyrene resins containing epoxy group for the syntheses of these immobilized lariat crown catalysts were prepared by suspension polymerization of styrene, divinylbenzene (DVB 2%) and vinylbenzylglycidyl ether. The immobilized lariat catalysts with 10-20% ring substitution exhibited maximal activity for the halogen exchange reactions of 1-bromooctane with aqueous KI or NaI under triphase heterogeneous conditions. Immobilized catalyst exhibited higher activity than corresponding catalyst without the hydroxyl group and this result was suggested that the active site have a structure in which the $K^+$ ion was bound by the cooperative coordination of the crown ring donors and the hydroxyl group in the side arm.
