Consumer organizations usually lead the opinions of the consumers. This study was performed to investigate the perceptions and information needs of consumer organizations on food additives for the promotion of risk communication. A survey was conducted for 4 weeks in March 2012 by using a self-administered questionnaire consisting of 32 questions. Total 111 responses were collected for analysis. 'Safety (91.0%)' was the most important factor influencing the purchase of processed food, and both 'food additives (24.3%)' and 'environmental pollution (23.4%)' were considered as main risk factors. The longer the career of the members had, the higher negative perceptions on food additives (p<0.01). About 70% of the respondents who had known KFDA's researches on evaluating safety of food additives answered that researches were not enough to make sure the safety. Although lectures and other domestic organization were the main channels for getting information, 'TV' was considered as the most suitable way for it. 'Poor risk communication (32.4%)' was pointed out as the serious problem of government's food safety policy. Based on these results, consumer organizations' low level of trust on government should be overcome by continuous supply of information what they need to facilitate risk communication on food additives.

To study the possibility of agricultural utilization of seafood processing wastewater sludges, the changes of temperature and humus, the form of organic matter and nitrogen and the germination ratio of plant during the composting were investigated. The results were summarized as follows. Temperature was rapidly increased at early stage of composting, reached to $67{\sim}76^{\circ}C$ in highest temperature at 3~5 days, and then decreased gradually fallen to $40{\sim}50^{\circ}C$ at 19 days after composting, at the point was upset firstly. The third upset was conducted at 60days after composting, and then the temperature was little changed. The contents of total organic matters in the compost for composting were down 4.5~8.0%. Ether extractable materials, resins and hemicellulose contents of the organic matters for composting were decreased with 35~77%, 32~69% and 19~30%, respectively. And cellulose, lignins and unknown materials contents in the organic matters for composting were increased a little, but water soluble polysaccharides of organic matters were little changed. Total nitrogen, amino sugar and amino acid nitrogen contents in the compost for composting were decreased with 20~42%, 11~49% and 23~65%, respectively. The contents of humic acid in the compost for composting were little changed, but contents of fulvic acid in the compost for composting were decreased gradually. Germination ratio of radish, chinese cabbage and cucumber were over 90%, when the compost produced at 30 days after composting was tested on plant germination.
This study was carried out to investigate the residue patterns of two insecticides, lambda-cyhalothrin and deltamethrin, commonly used for lettuce, under greenhouse conditions. The pesticides were sprayed with dilution of recommended and doubled doses onto lettuce. Their detection limits were $0.001\;mg{\cdot}kg^{-1}$ and mean recoveries at the fortification levels of 0.2 and $1.0\;mg{\cdot}kg^{-1}$ were from 101.17 to 104.25 and from 99.70 to 103.77%, respectively. The pesticides were gradually decreased in lettuce with time. Biological half-lives of lambda-cyhalothrin and deltamethrin were 1.7 and 1.4 days at the recommended dose and 1.8 and 1.4 days at the doubled dose, respectively. Initial residue amounts of lambda-cyhalothrin and deltamethrin at the recommended and doubled doses exceeded their MRLs. However, the residue levels of the pesticides in the crop sampled at harvest were less than their MRLs. The ratios of the estimated daily intake (EDI) to acceptable daily intake (ADI) by intake the crop harvested 10 days after spraying were less than 1% of their ADIs.

A 3D hydrodynamic-ecological coupled model was applied to estimate a food supply to oysters in Geoje-Hansan Bay where is one of the oyster culturing sites in Korea, In this study, the primary productivity (PP) was adopted as an index of food supply, and the spatial patterns of average chlorophyll a concentration during a culturing seasons from September to May of the following year were simulated by the model, The numerical result showed that PP was high in the inner part of the bay and the adjacent areas of Hwado island, but low in the outer. This result indicates that PP is essentially influenced by anthropogenic nutrient loadings in the system. The model was calibrated using the field data in May which is non culturing season of oysters and a simulated phytoplankton biomass agreed fairly well with the observed data ($R^{2}=0.70$, $RE=10.3\%$). The computed food supply varied from 0.19 to $1.27\;gC/m^{2}/day$ with a mean value of $0.62 gC/m^{2}/day$ from September to May. The highest value was showed in May ($1.27 gC/m^{2}/day$) and the lowest was in February ($0.19 gC/m^{2}/day$).

This study was conducted to standardize the manufacturing process of doenjang. The preparation methods, kinds and levels of the ingredients were determined by the statistical surveys of literatures obtained from cooking books, scientific papers and doenjang manufacturing factories. The standardized preparation of fermentation methods of doenjang were classified into two large groups, that were traditional and modified (commercialized) methods. Most soybeans used in doenjang preparation were the large size. To prepare traditional doenjang, soybeans were cleaned, scaled and cooked for 2 hrs at atmospheric pressure. These cooked soybeans were crushed in water and molded as brick shape. The molded soybean was dried for 2 days in the air, hung up by rice straw and fermented for 30~60 days under natural environmental condition (called meju). Recently soybean grain meju that inoculated with Asp. oryzae also frequently used to make traditional doenjang. The fermented meju was brined with a ratio of meju : salt : water = 18.4 : 14.6 : 67.0 and the meju-brine mixtures were ripened for 2 months. When the meju-brine mixture was fully fermented, it was separated into liquid and solid parts. The crushed solid part was further ripened in a separated pottery for 60 days and become doenjang. The liquid part was filtered, boiled and used as soy sauce. In modified commercial doenjang preparation, soybeans were cocked by autoclaving and then cooled about to 3$0^{\circ}C$. Separately, steamed barley grains or wheat flour were inoculated with 0.2% Asp. oryzae and incubated for 3 days at 3$0^{\circ}C$ and mixed with the crooked soybeans, salt, and water (soybean : salt : starch : water = 39.8 : 12.5 : 22.6 : 25.1). These mixtures were ripened for 30 days at 3$0^{\circ}C$. It seems that the manufacturing process of traditional doenjang needs to be more industrialized, whereas, the commercial doenjang preparation is going to adapt the traditional processing method of doenjang.
This research was conducted to analyze the influence of the environmental factors on water quality such as pH, dissolved oxygen, and electrical conductivity of rainfall, throughfall, soil water(A and B layer), and stream water quality at a small forested watershed. Rainfall, throughfall, soil water(A and B layer), and stream water were sampled at the study sites in Kwanak Arboretum, Seoul National University in Mt. Kwanak for 14 months(Jul. 1, 1996~Aug. 31, 1997). Average rainfall pH value was 6.06(ranged from 5.02 to 6.60). Acid rain frequency(less than pH 5.6) was 16.7%. The lowest rainfall pH value was 5.02. Average of pH values in hydrological processes were decreasing in the following order, stream water>soil water [Prunus serrulata var, spontanea(B layer>A layer)]>throughfall(Prunus serrulata var. spontanea)>soil water [Carpinus laxiflora(B layer >A layer)]>throughfall(Carpinus laxiflora)>rainfall>soil water [Pinus rigida(B layer>A layer)]>throughfall(Pinus rigida). pH values of throughfall in Prunes serrulata var. spontanea and Carpinus laxiflora were higher in Pines rigida. Average of dissolved oxygen values in hydrological processes were decreasing in the order, stream water>throughfall(Carpinus laxiflora>Prunus serrulata var, spontanea>Pines rigida)>rainfall>soil water [Prunes serrulata var. spontanea(A layer)>Pines rigida(A layer)>Carpinus laxiflora(A layer)>Prunes serrulata var. spontanea(B layer)>Pines rigida(B layer)>Carpinus laxiflora(B layer)]. And average electrical conductivity values in hydrological processes were decreasing in the order, soil water (B layer>A layer)>throughfall(Pinus rigida>Prunes serrulata var, spontanea>Carpinus laxiflora)>stream water>rainfall. Multiple regression equations of electrical conductivity and $Mg^{2+}$, $Na^+$, total amount of cation, total amount of ion, and no. of before non-rain days in rainfall, throughfall, soil and stream water shows high significance(Multi R; 0.84).
This research analyzed the factors that have the influences on the intentions to use the consumer dispute settlement system for the small- and medium-sized corporations. The consumer dispute settlement system is a general Internet information portal service which enables the small- and medium-sized corporations and the small businesses receive the support for the accurate damage handling method and the legal service through the Internet in their disputes with the black consumers or the consumers. With the small- and medium-sized corporation users who use the consumer dispute settlement system as the subjects, the research took a lot at what influences the consumer dispute settlement system has on the quality of the information, the quality of the system, the ease-of-use regarding which the environmental factors are perceived, and the ease that was perceived and, finally, what influences it has on the intention of the use. The accuracy, the convenience, and the costs of the consumer dispute settlement system had the positive influences on the ease-of-use that was perceived and the accuracy and the convenience, also had the positive influences on the usefulness that was perceived. Also, it was verified that the ease-of-use of the consumer dispute settlement system that was perceived and the usefulness of use of the consumer dispute settlement system that was perceived finally had the positive influence relationships with the intention of the use. It is highly expected that if, based on the results of this research, the quality of the consumer dispute settlement system is maintained and supplemented to fit the priority order, there will be the maintenance of, and the development toward, a system that is even more improved than the previously existent system.
This study is aimed to analyze the reduction performance of building energy consumption according to planting base types of panel-type green walls which can be applied to existing buildings. The performance was compared to the general performance of green walls that have demonstrated effects of improving the thermal environment and reducing building energy consumption in urban areas. The number of planting base types was 4 in total, and simulations were conducted to analyze the thermal conductivity, thermal transmittance, and overall building energy consumption rate of each planting base type. The highest thermal conductivity by the planting base type was Case C (0.053W/mK), followed by Case B (0.1W/mK) and Case D (0.17W/mK). According to the results of energy simulation, the most significant reduction of cooling peak load per unit area was Case C (1.19%), followed by Case B (1.14%) and Case D (1.01%) when compared to Case A to which green wall was not applied; and the most significant reduction of heating peak load per unit area was estimated to be Case C (2.38%), followed by Case B (1.82%) and case D (1.50%) when compared to Case A. The amount of yearly cooling and heating energy use per unit area showed 3.04~3.22% of reduction rate. The amount of the 1st energy use showed 5,844 kWh/yr of decrease on average for other types when compared to Case A. The amount of yearly $CO_2$ emission showed 996kg of decrease on average when compared to Case A to which the green wall was not applied. According to the results of energy performance evaluation by planting location, the most efficient energy performance was eastward followed by westward, southward and northward. According to the results of energy performance evaluation by planting location by green wall ratio, it was found that as the ratio of green wall increased, the energy performance displayed better results, showing approx. double reduction rate in energy consumption at 100% of green wall ratio than the reduction rate at 20% to 80% of green wall ratio.
This study conducted health assessment and multivariate vegetation analysis using the riparian vegetation index in 30 sites of the Geumgang mainstream and Mihocheon to obtain practical data on the river management of the Geumgang. The result showed that the number of plant communities was 54. The flora was 75 families, 185 genera, 243 species, 2 subspecies, 21 varieties, 2 varieties, and 268 taxa. The riparian vegetation index was 38.3 (3.3; G-D1 ~ 66.7; G-U2, G-U4, and G-M3), and the health of the rivers in this area was evaluated as normal (grade C). The health of rivers was the highest in the upper stream of Geumgang mainstream and lowest in the downstream of Geumgang mainstream. The relationship between riparian vegetation index and chlorophyll-a content was low. The riparian vegetation was divided into five groups of Digitaria ciliaris colony group, Salix gracilistyla colony group, Erigeron annuus colony group, the group dominated by Humulus japonicus, Salix koreensis, Miscanthus sacchariflorus, and Phragmites japonica colonies, and the group dominated by Conyza canadensis and Echinochloa crusgalli var. echinata colonies. They had the similar health conditions. The CCA analysis showed that the environmental factors affecting the distribution of vegetation were physical factors such as vegetation area, artificial structure area, waterway area, branch width, channel width, and bank height and the biological factors such as the number of species. As such, it is necessary to maintain the health condition through continuous monitoring where the health condition is high and to apply active measures such as ecological restoration where the health condition is low.
This study was performed to investigate the hardness of wood related to the wood surface, sap and heartwood, early and latewood, specific gravity, annual ring width and moisture content on major Korean tree species such as Pinus koraiensis, Abies holophylla, Larix leptolepis and Quercus valiabilis. The results were summarized as follows: 1. The arithmetic mean values of wood hardness on cross section were respectively $8.0kg/mm^2$ on Quercus valiabilis, $7.4kg/mm^2$ on Larix leptolepis, $5.1kg/mm^2$ on Pinus koraiensis and $4.7kg/mm^2$ on Abies hollophylla. 2. Generally hardness of wood on cross section was greater than the others and the proportion of cross section hardness to radial was respectively 2.8 on Quercus valiabilis, 2.6 on Larix leptolepis, 3.8 on Pinus koraiensis, and 4.1 on Abies holophylla and that proportion was tend to be decrease as specific gravity increased. 3. It was recognized that the hardness of sap and heartwood was different from each of the tree species and generally heartwood hardness was somewhat greater than sapwood. 4. Generally latewood hardness with in a ring was greater than earlywood and the proportion of earlywood hardness to latewood decreased as specific gravity increased. 5. The relations between hardness of wood and specific gravity show a high positive correlation on all sample tree species. 6. The values of hardness decreased with increasing annual ring width. 7. Hardness of wood on Abies holophylla was greatest in oven dried wood and it was decreased as moisture content increased, but not changed with moisture content abve F.S.P.. The proportion of oven dried wood hardness to green are respectively 3.0 on cross, 2.4 on radial and 1.9 on tangential section.
