The Determination of Ethyl Isocyanate and Propyl Isocyanate by GC/FID (에틸 이소시아네이트와 프로필 이소시아네이트의 GC/FID 분석)

  • The purpose of this study is the development of the simple and precise determination method of ethyl isocyanate (EIC) and propyl isocyanate (PIC) through derivatization using secondary aliphatic amines by gas chromatography with flame ionization detector. The urea derivatives are quantitatively and simultaneously derived from EIC and PIC with secondary aliphatic amines such as dipropylamine, dibutylamine. and dipentylamine in methylene chloride, and confirmed by thin layer chromatography and gas chromatography with mass selective detector. For GC/FID, according to the increasing carbon atom of the amines, the retention time and peak area of the urea derivatives are increased. The instrumental detection limits for EIC and PIC were about 23.3∼34.8 $\mu\textrm{g}$ and 21.6∼28.9 $\mu\textrm{g}$, respectively.

Korean Students' Environmental Knowledge : From the Perspectives of International Comparative Studies in Science (우리 나라 학생들의 환경 관련 지식 수준 - 과학과 국제 비교 연구 결과를 중심으로)

  • The purpose of this study was to verify the trends of Korean students'environmental science achievement in recent two international comparative studies, TIMSS-R and PISA 2000. Participants of TIMSS-R and PISA 2000 were 8th graders and 15-years-olds, respectively. The science items in TIMSS-R assess students'science concepts in the science curriculum and science items in PISA 2000 assess scientific literacy in the 21s1 daily life. To achieve this purpose, the 14 environmental knowledge items in TIMSS-R and 16 environmental knowledge items in PISA 2000 were analyzed. As a result of the comparison between Korean- and international percent correct, Korean students showed especially higher achievement in 'resources'or'ecosystem'items. On the contrary, Korean students showed relatively lower achievement in'biotechnology'or'environmental health'items. In general, Korean female students showed lower achievement than their male counterparts. The relationship among environmental knowledge, attitudes, and behavior should be examined more systematically.

  • When we conduct environmental impact assessment, main contents consist of summary, project outline, environmental conditions, environmental impacts due to the project, mitigation devices, and alternative measures of harmful impact on environment. In this Paper, to understand how they really conduct air quality impact assessment and prediction and examine their effectiveness, we considered the provisions and actual case of environmental impact assessment in Korea with that in Japan. As a result, we propose a method of improving air quality impact assessment and Prediction, such as reflection of the result in environmental impact assessment, detailed assessment focused on relatively important environmental impact elements, field measurement investigation over four season and seven sucessive days, the uniformity of units, the proper model development to predict environmental concentration and a biennial environmental impact assessment for ex post management.
