Pro-environmental Consumer Behavior according to Adolescent´s Environmental Education Experience and Peer Group (청소년의 환경교육경험과 또래집단에 따른 환경친화적 소비행동)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate pro-environmental consumer behavior according to adolescent´s environmental education experience and peer group´s pro-environmental consumer behavior. The subjects of study were general high school students in Daegu, and the method was by the analysis of 610 questionnaires obtained from them. The main findings of this study were as follows : First, there was no meaningful difference in adolescent´s pro-environmental consumer behavior according to the degree of environment-related education experience in school, and were meaningful differences in adolescent´s pro-environmental disposal behavior according to the degree of participating-experience in environment-related events in school. Second, there were meaningful differences in adolescent´s pro-environmental purchase, use and disposal behavior according to the degree of environmental education experience at home. Third, there were meaningful differences in adolescent´s pro-environmental purchase and disposal behavior according to the degree of environmental education experience in society. Fourth, there were meaningful differences in adolescent´s pro-environmental consumer behavior according to peer group´s pro-environmental consumer behavior.

Study on the Interrelationship among the Environmental Factors in Environmental Impact Assessment (환경영향평가에서의 평가항목간 상호연계성에 관한 연구)

  • In this study, we individualize the clauses to sort out the troubled ones, draw up a interrelation model in order to visually organize the relations, and finally, suggest the desirable application idea. The interrelation model suggested in this study has been made based on the matrix method. On this matrix, we arranged the environmental factors on horizontal and vertical axis, and when we describe the relation of each factors, we set the horizontal axis as the base and divided the content into three grades : Fine, Medium, and Poor. In addition to that, we expressed those three grades into numerical value like 3 points for Level Fine, 2 points for Level Medium, and 1 point for Level Poor and then, we converted this numerical values into index numbers. We could classify the index numbers such as AS, PS, Q-index, P-index. AS is an index numerically shows the degree of giving environmental effect, PS is an index numerically shows the degree of receiving environmental effect, Q-index is an index shows the aggravate degree, and P-index shows the relation degree. The Q/P-index with large numbers has considerable effect on the environmental system, while the small numbered Q/P-index barely effect on the environmental system. Moreover, we classified the environmental factors into 5 levels(I~V) according to the relations between the Q-index and P-index. Level I is less affected by the environment and has more giving effect, while Level V is more sensitively affected by the environment and has more receiving effect, which we considered important. Therefore, we could come up with the result that if we consider the each level of factors when we evaluate the EIA, the result would be far more accurate and reliable since it contains mutual relation aspect of EIA. The suggested interrelation model in this thesis is presentable as one of those scoping system. We highly believe the need of scoping system in EIA and suggest the interrelation model as the alternative idea for scoping system.

Effect of Temperature-increase Rate and Terminal Temperature on the Solubilization of Sewage Sludge using Microwave Irradiation

  • Solubilization of sewage sludge creates favorable conditions for anaerobic microorganisms to produce biogas. In this paper, we quantify the effect of heating pretreatment on the degree of solubilization of sewage sludge. The pretreatment process was carried out using a lab-scale industrial microwave unit (2450 MHz frequency). Response surface analysis was applied to determine the combination of temperature-increase rate (ramp rate) (2.9 to 17.1 ${^{\circ}C}$/min) and terminal temperature (52 to 108${^{\circ}C}$). Both ramp rate and temperature significantly affected the solubilization degree of sludge. Within the design boundaries, the conditions predicted to maximize the solubilization degree of 15.8% were determined to be 2.9 ${^{\circ}C}$/min and 104${^{\circ}C}$.

An Analysis on Water Pollution Degree by the Watershed considering Landcover Types in the Mid-Nakdong River (낙동강중류의 토지피복형태를 고려한 유역별 수질오염도 분석)

  • The purpose of this study is to evaluate the water pollution degree in the Mid-Nakdong River watershed regarding to landcover types using GIS method. As a result of landcover classification, rate of urban appeared highly on Daegu Metropolitan city. Also, rate of agriculture showed highly in the riparian zones of the Nakdong and Guemho River and rate of forest appeared highly in the borders of the study area. To identify the groups of watershed with similar landcover patterns using the Cluster Analysis. According to the cluster analysis, the fifty sub-watersheds were grouped in three clusters, 'Urban watershed', 'Agriculture watershed', 'Forest watershed'. The proportion of urban area in each cluster had a positive correlation with water pollution degree. Otherwise, the proportion of agriculture in the Agriculture watershed had a high positive correlation with water pollution degree. Therefore, it is necessary to estimate environmental capacity of water duality considering ecological and environmental characteristics of watershed ecosystem and expand water duality monitoring systems to small stream.

Ultimate strength of composite structure with different degrees of shear connection

  • Composite beam, which combined the material characteristic of the steel and concrete, has been widely used in the construction of various building and bridge system. For the effective application of the composite beam, the composite action on the composite interface between the concrete element and the steel element should be achieved by shear connectors. The behavioral characteristics of composite beam are related with the degree of interaction and the degree of shear connection according to the shear strength and shear stiffness of the stud shear connectors. These two concepts are also affected by the number of installed shear connector and the strength of composite materials. In this study, experimental and analytical evaluations of the degree of shear connection affected by stud diameter were conducted, and the relationship between structural behavior and the degree of shear connection was verified. The very small difference among the ultimate loads of the specimens depending on the change of the degree of connection was possibly because of the dependence of the ultimate load on the characteristic of plastic moment of the composite beam.

  • The evaluation of field degree of consolidation on soft clays has been an important problem in geotechnical areas. Monitoring either settlements or pore water pressures has been widely applied in the filed, but occasionally they have some problems. This study addresses the suggestion and application of another method for evaluating the degree of consolidation using shear wave velocities. A research site where soft clay layers were consolidated by surcharging loads was chosen. Laboratory tests were performed to determine the relation between shear wave velocity and effective stress. Field seismic tests were conducted several times during the consolidation of the clay layers. The tests results show that the shear wave velocity increased significantly as clays consolidated. The shear wave velocities at each field stress states were derived from the laboratory results and the degree of consolidation was evaluated by comparing the shear wave velocities obtained by laboratory and field seismic methods. In most stress states, the degree of consolidation evaluated using the shear wave velocity matched well with that obtained from field settlement record, showing the potential of applying the method using shear waves in the evaluation of field degree of consolidation on soft clay deposits.

  • Characteristics of urban wanning phenomenon were studied using degree days for three big cities(Seoul, Busan, Daegu) adjacent to airport. Time variation of the cooling and heating degree days was analyzed using the daily mean air temperature data measured at the six meteorological observatory for long-term periods(25~43years). The results for the big cities are as followings: 1) It was found that the heating degree days trended to decrease from year to year. 2) The cooling degree days were nearly unchanged during the same analysis periods. 3) The number of days calling for air-heating also tended to decrease as time passes. 4) Those of air-cooling were nearly unchanged during the same time. It suggests that the change of air-heating condition owing to urbanization came in evidence in the winter season, but that of air-cooling condition was slight in the summer season. On the other hand, the long-term trends of degree days were very small in airport areas except for Kimhae airport. Hence, the gaps of degree days between big cities and rural airport areas are increasing.

  • Vegetation is an important factor in EIA(Environmental Impact Assessment) and it is assessed according to DGN(Degree of Green Naturality) in EIS(Environmental Impact Statement) preparation. But DGN has room for improvement of assessing vegetation Status. This study introduced NDVI(Normalized Difference Vegetation Index) for improving status assessment method that subjects to DGN. For the application of NDVI, Landsat TM data of Chunchon on May 2, 1989 and June 1, 1994, and data of Ulsan on November 5, 1984, November 2, 1992 and May 9, 1994 were used. It compared NDVI with DGN according to season and location. The correlation coefficient value for the spring image (1994, 0.7, p=0.01) was proved to be higher than that of autumn (1984, 0.5, p=0.01).

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the influence of adolescent's environmental education experience and peer group on pro-environmental consumption behavior The survey study administered 610 questionnaires to general high school students in Daegu. First, adolescent's pro-environmental purchase behavior was positively correlated to the degree of participation in environment-related events in school, the mother's pro-environmental purchase, use and disposal behavior and environment education experience in society, while the peer group's pro-environmental purchase was positively correlated to use and disposal behavior Also adolescent's pro-environmental use behavior was positively correlated to the mother's pro-environmental purchase, use and disposal behavior, the peer group's pro-environmental purchase, and use and disposal behavior. Adolescent's pro-environmental disposal behavior was positively correlated to the degree of participation in environment-related events in school, the mother's pro-environmental purchase, use and disposal behavior, environment education experience in society, the peer group's pro-environmental purchase, and use and disposal behavior. Second, adolescent's pro-environmental purchase behavior was influenced to the greatest extent by the peer group's pro-environmental purchase behavior, followed by the mother's pro-environmental purchase behavior and use behavior, and to a lesser extent, tv environment education experience in society. Also adolescent's pro-environmental use behavior was influenced to the greatest extent tv the mother's pro-environmental use behavior, followed by the peer group's one, and to a lesser extent, by the mother's pro-environmental disposal behavior. Adolescent's pro-environmental disposal behavior was influenced to the greatest extent by the mother's pro-environmental disposal behavior, followed tv the peer group's one, the mother's pro-environmental purchase behavior and, to a lesser extent, by the degree of participation in environment-related events in school.

  • The CDP in Korea has been enforced for conserving resources and reducing environmental pollution since March, 1999. Therefore this thesis aims to investigate the degrees of consumer participation(CP), recognition and support, and to analysis of demographic variables, consumers' psychology, and attitudes which may influence the degrees of CP recognition, and support for the CDP. The results were as follows: First, the time of surrey was found to be statistically significant in consumer recognition and support. The degree of recognition was the lowest in first time. And the degree of consumer support was the highest in first time. Second, education, employment status and house shape were found to be statistically significant. The degree of consumer recognition was the highest among junior college graduates. The employed group was found to be the highest in the degree of participation. Third, the significant factors which influenced the degree of recognition was the time of survey, the perceived difficulty, effectiveness of the Consumer Deposit Program. The perceived difficulty, the time of survey were found to be related with the degree of consumer support. The most influential variables which influenced the degree of consumer participation were house shape, the perceived effectiveness, the degree of resource recycling, job and the degree of consumer recognition.
