A Study on the Prediction of the Construction Cost in Planning Stage of Local Housing Union Project (지역주택조합사업 기획단계의 공사비 예측에 관한 연구)

  • The accurate prediction of construction cost is a key factor in a project's success. However, it is hard to predict the construction costs in the planning stages rapidly and precisely when drawings, specifications, construction cost calculation statements are incomplete, among other factors. Accurate construction-cost prediction in the planning stage of a project is also important for project feasibility studies and successful completion. Therefore, various techniques have been applied to accurately predict construction costs at an early stage when project information is limited. There are many factors that affect the construction cost prediction. This paper presents a construction-cost prediction method as multiple regression model with seven construction factors as independent variables. The method was used to predict the construction cost of a local housing union project, and the error rate was 4.87%. It is not possible to compare the cost of the project at the planning stage of the local housing union project, but it has high prediction accuracy compared to the unit price of an existing unit area. It is likely to be applied in construction-cost calculation work and to contribute to the establishment of the budget for the local housing union project.

  • Cost estimation in the early phase enables government to plan public budgeting more efficiently by providing information about construction cost. However, cost estimation in the early phase is difficult to predict because only a little information can be utilized. The cost estimation method now being used by the government is calculated by length of the road multiplied by unit cost per length and shows high error rate because it cannot reflect the unique characteristics of each project. As the project is being proceeded, level of available information also changed. So, reflecting available information of a project is important. This paper divided early phase into two parts : planning phase and early design phase, and developed cost estimation model considering level of available information of each phase. Total 143 cases are utilized to find influencing variables and develop cost estimation model and model validation is done by adopting required accuracy level. This cost estimation model reflecting level of available information can be applied to public budgeting, feasibility test, and comparison between routes.

The Study on Quantifying and Evaluating for the Functions of Flood Control and Fostering Water Resources in Agriculture (농업의 홍수조절기능과 수자원함양기능 계량화 및 가치평가에 관한 연구)

  • In order to share the understanding agricultural multifunctionality with people, we carried out quantification and monetary evaluation for controlling flood and fostering water resources function in paddy and upland farming in Korea. The amount of water controlling flood and fostering water resources function in paddy farming was much greater than that in upland. The quantification of flood control function could be estimated by sum of the height of dike and water infiltrated during the flooding periods in paddy farming, and water excepting runoff water from precipitation at flooding time in upland farming. As results of estimation of flood control function, the amounts of water controlling flood have been evaluated as $294mm\;year^{-1}$ in paddy farming and $72.6mm\;year^{-1}$ upland farming, and was calculated 3.71 billion MT on a nation basis in 2006. When it was carried out monetary estimation as the cost of dam construction and the depreciation expense by using replacement cost method, flood control functions in paddy and upland were evaluated as 44,338.9 and 7,221.5 billion won, respectively. Comparing with previous reports, monetary value was analyzed much to increase because of rising price cost recently. Fostering water resource functions were also quantified in paddy and upland farming as the amount of water keeping and infiltrating water during the cultivation. In the basis of estimation model, it was showed that paddy and upland farming had been estimated to have $414.28mm\;year^{-1}$, $18.7mm\;year^{-1}$, respectively. They were also calculated to 4.49 and 0.137 billion MT on a nation basis in 2006, respectively. The economic values of fostering water resources function in paddy and upland farming were also estimated to 1,769.4 and 52.8 billion won, respectively, as replacing the amount of water to the cost of drinking water in 2006. There were differences by much to the amounts of controlling flood function and fostering water resource between paddy and upland farming. It means that paddy farming more play an important role in environment than upland farming in Korea.

  • Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) has been applied to the construction industry for improving the efficiency of material and process management. Most RFID-related studies have focused on building or plant construction. The application of RFID has been limited in pipeline construction projects where materials are stored and stacked across a large construction site. This paper investigates practical issues in pipeline construction, improves the read rates of RFID tags, and tests their utility by putting them into practice. This paper demonstrates the benefits that may be expected with the use of improved RFID tags and the development of an automated pipeline construction management system. As a result, pipeline construction management time decreased by 28 hours per month compared to the conventional method. Cost decreased by about 26%.

  • This paper proposes a CPSO (Cooperative Particle Swarm Optimization)-based MPC (Model Predictive Control) scheme to deal with formation control problem of multiple nonholonomic mobile robots. In a distributed MPC framework, each robot needs to optimize control input sequence over a finite prediction horizon considering control inputs of the other robots where their cost functions are coupled by the state variables of the neighboring robots. In order to optimize the control input sequence, a CPSO algorithm is adopted and modified to fit into the formation control problem. Experiments are performed on a group of nonholonomic mobile robots to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed CPSO-based MPC for multi-robot formation.

A Non-Pt Catalyst for Improved Oxygen Reduction Reaction in Microbial Fuel Cells

  • Fe-tetramethoxyphenylporphyrin on carbon black (Fe-TMPP/C) is examined and compared with carbon (C) and Pt-coated carbon (Pt/C) for oxygen reduction reaction in a two chambered microbial fuel cell (MFC). The Fe-TMPP/C is prepared by heat treatment and characterized using SEM, TEM, and XPS. The electrochemical properties of catalysts are characterized by voltammerty and single cell measurements. It is found that the power generation in the MFC with Fe-TMPP/C as the cathode is higher than that with Pt/C. The maximum power of the Fe-TMPP/C is 0.12 mW compared with 0.10 mW (Pt/C) and 0.02 mW (C). This high output with the Fe-TMPP/C indicates that MFCs are promising in further practical applications with low cost macrocycles catalysts.

  • Motivated by the need fir developing the new method of weed control in place of chemical weedicide, this paper aims at making good use of electricity against environmental pollution. Compared with chemical weedicide, the electric method of weed control is functionally more versatile, effectively more rapid, and lower in terms of cost. In particular, this method will contribute to environmental protection. In detail the electrical weed control system which is the simple circuit for generating the electric current of high voltage is comprised of step-up transformer which rectifies the current and the capacitor which stores the energy. The effectiveness of electrical weed control system is evaluated by germination rate and control of Dgitaria Sangvinalis(Galinsoga ciliate). As a result, the electrical weed control system(high voltage spark discharge) can kill weeds effectively

  • This paper introduces a map building algorithm which can collect environmental information using ultrasonic sensors. And also this paper discusses a traveling algorithm using environmental information which leads to the map building algorithm. In order to accomplish the proposed traveling algorithm, this paper additionally discusses a path revision algorithm. For verifying the proposed algorithms, several experiments are executed using a mobile robot physically designed in this paper. The conclusion is that the proposed algorithm is very effective and is applicable to mobile robots especially requiring a low-cost environmental information.

  • Nowadays, the automobile manufactures make a great efforts to reduce manufacturing cost, body weight and to develop eco-environmental parts in order to be more competitive and solve global warming. For these reasons, materials of automobile's parts are changed over from general carbon steel and stainless steel to plastic and Aluminum. And, laser welding technology is introduced to apply welding between aluminum parts. In this paper, the data of laser welding parameters is collected through lots of the experiment according to the material, welding speed and laser power to apply laser welding in Aluminum fuel filler neck assembly. After manufacturing prototype of aluminum fuel filler neck, vibration durability test, tensile strength test and salt water test are applied to verify product's satisfied function.

  • Environmental pollution has become a serious worldwide problem the humans has encountered in several decades. On the respect of the preservation of the global environment, world-wide consensus to cope with this problem was represented as 1992's Rio Declation. The purpose of this study is to develope evaluation technique of ecological architecture. The environmental scores of the buildings are evaluated and improved from the building design phase in order to build the best environmental building. Ecological architecture is mainly based on the balance of three element : Nature, Humanity, and Cost saving. Its main goals are energy saving and recycling, resource saving, high contact with circumstances, and health & amenity.
