The effects of Asiasarum Root on the cell mediated and humoral immune responses were investigated in ICR mice. ICR mice received intraperitoneal injection of methanol extracts (ether fraction, butanol fraction, water fraction) for 5 days before sensitization. The change of body weight (%), the organ weight ratio (%), the numbers of RBC and WBC, the ear swelling by dinitrofluorobenzene, the titers of hemagglutination (HA) and hemolysin (HY) to SRBC were determined. The results were as follows; 1. The change of body weight (%) showed a tendency of increasing. 2. The weight of spleen (%) decreased. 3. Ear swelling was maximum at 48 hours after challenge and was significantly decreased in the groups. 4. The numbers of RBC and WBC were decreased. 5. HA and HY titers were decreased.
In this paper, stress contour plots depending on length, load, and diameter of the implant are presented. Depending on the condition and amount of cortical bone, process of implanting can be difficult and stress becomes important. Therefore deciding the right length and diameter of implant is critical. When analyzing stress in the implant, Von-mises yield criterion is often used; however, due to hardship of acquiring the actual material property of surrounding bones, simplified model of a implant was adapted in finite element analysis program of EDISON. The result acquired from EDISON program was then compared with results of different research papers.

Further this report describes challenges of nanoparticle exposure assessment such as background measurement, metrics of nanoparticle exposure assessment and personal sampling.
Petroleum industry produces one of the popular hazardous waste known as Petroleum Sludge. The treatment and disposal of petroleum sludge has created a major challenge in recent years. This review provides insights into various approaches involved in the treatment, and disposal of petroleum sludge. Various methods used in the treatment and disposal of petroleum sludge such as incineration, stabilization/solidification, oxidation, and bio-degradation are explained fully and other techniques utilized in oil recovery from petroleum sludge such as solvent extraction, centrifugation, surfactant EOR, freeze/thaw, pyrolysis, microwave irradiation, electro-kinetic method, ultrasonic irradiation and froth flotation were discussed. The pros and cons of these methods were critically considered and a recommendation for economically useful alternatives to disposal of this unfriendly material was presented.
Citronella oil, an essential oil extracted through steam distillation from the leaves and stems of Cymbopogon, is a natural complex substance (NCS) regulated by the Korean government for its use in insect repellents. The component ratios of NCSs like citronella oil vary due to differences in manufacturing processes and origins, presenting a challenge in identifying and quantifying these substances in consumer chemical products. This study analysed ten commercially available products of the most commonly used types of citronella oil, specifically Java and Ceylon types, using gas chromatography (GC)-mass spectrometry (MS) and GC with flame ionization detection (FID). Through chromatographic data, we aimed to determine the components that can qualitatively identify citronella oil and the indicator ingredients that can be used for content analysis.
The longitudinal force resulting from tornado loads on transmission line is considered a crucial factor contributing to the failure of transmission line structures during tornado events. Accurate estimation of this longitudinal force poses a challenge for structural designers. Therefore, the objective of this paper is to provide a set of charts that can be easily used to estimate the peak longitudinal forces transferred from the conductors to a tower. The critical wind field and corresponding configuration considered in this paper are previously studied and determined. The charts should account for all the conductor parameters that can affect the value of the longitudinal force. In order to achieve that, a parametric study is first conducted to assess the variation of the longitudinal forces with different conductor parameters, based on the critical tornado configuration. Results of this parametric study are used to develop the charts that can be used to calculate longitudinal forces by adopting a multi-variable line regression. The forces calculated from charts are validated by finite element analysis. An example for the usage of the charts is provided at the end of this paper.
Nowadays, firms face the challenge of how to balance between the environmental request and business profit under the circumstances of being eco-friendly and sustainable. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of business environmental factors on the 4p mix of an eco-friendly textile in the textile fashion firms. This research was conducted by a questionnaire method, in which the questionnaires were distributed to the textile fashion firms. Of the returned questionnaires, one hundred of them were selected to be included in the analysis by developing descriptive statistics, factor analysis, cronbach's alpha, and regression analysis using SPSS18.0. The results of this study were as follows: There were significant effects of the firms' environmental management, organizational structure, and CEOs' environmental sensitivity in descending order of the business internal factors on the textile fashion firms' eco-friendly textile product. The factors of the firms' environmental management, organizational structure(internal factors), and legal regulation(external factor), in descending order, significantly affected the promotion of the eco-friendly textile. The factor of firms' environmental management (internal factor) significantly affected the distribution of the eco-friendly textile. The factors of CEOs' environmental sensitivity(internal factor), legal regulation(external factor), and firms' environmental management(internal factor), in descending order, significantly affected the price of the eco-friendly textile.
Korean population is now aging at an unprecedented rate. Fertility decline together with rapid improvements in life expectancy is the dominant demographic trend. As human life and housing environment are inseparably related to each other, the importance of conditions of housing environment for active aging among seniors has been received considerable attention as vital ones to expand the independency period of seniors. The purpose of this case study is to identify relationships between environmental affordance and perceived holistic health of the active elderly living in a retirement community located in Seoul. With spending time personally in the community to observe their lives, the researcher could be in close rapport with the residents. After the period of getting familiar with each other, in-depth individual interview and focus group interview were conducted and then, qualitative analysis was completed. As a result, general evidences showed that perceived seniors' health on the whole was improved physically, socially, and mentally by moving into the community providing appropriate environment affordance with the older adults. The study presents that retirement relocation into an improper environment may be a negative challenge, however, it may positively influence on the health and well-being of those who live there if the environment properly supports seniors‘ needs physically and socially

Perfluorinated compounds (PFCs) have been recognized as emerging environmental pollutants and are widely distributed all over the world. These compounds are hardly degradable and cause bioaccumulation and biomagnification during present for a long time in the environment: thereby after adversely biota and human bodies. It is difficult to remove PFCs using conventional water/wastewater treatment because of resistant property to photodecomposition, biodegradation and chemical decomposition. Moreover, domestic literature data on the pollution of PFCs in rivers and lakes are limited. In this paper, species, sources and risk of PFCs as well as behavior properties in drinking water/wastewater and treatment processes are demonstrated to encourage the domestic concern about PFCs.
South Africa has developed a policy and law that calls and provides for the equitable and sustainable use of water resources. Sustainable resource use is dependent on effective resource protection. Rivers are the most important freshwater resources in the country, and there is a focus on developing and applying methods to quantify what rivers need in terms of flow and water quality. These quantified and descriptive objectives are then related to specified levels of ecological health in a classification system. This paper provides an overview of an integrated and systematic methodology, where, fer each river, and each river reach, the natural condition and the present ecological condition are described, and a level/class of ecosystem health is selected. The class will define long term management goals. This procedure requires each ecosystem component to be quantified, starting with the abiotic template. A modified flow regime is modelled for each ecosystem health class, and the resultant fluvial geomorphology and hydraulic habitats are described. Then the water chemistry is described, and the water quality changes that are likely to occur as a consequence of altered flows are predicted. Finally, the responses to the stress imposed on the biota (fish, invertebrates and vegetation) by modified flow and water quality are predicted. All of the predicted responses are translated into descriptive and/or quantitative management objectives. The paper concludes with the recognition of active method development, and the enormous challenge of applying the methods, implementing the law, and achieving river protection and sustainable resource-use.
