  • An evaluation of the structural integrity of an oceanographic buoy subjected to extreme loads was carried out in this study. Load components, such as the current, waves, and wind load, which were required for the sea's environmental conditions, were calculated precisely. A non linear finite element analysis was conducted to elucidate the structural response of the buoy under extreme environmental conditions. Based on the surface drift velocity scheme, a dynamic impact analysis was also carried out for the case of collision accidents. The proposed numerical technique would be a useful and cost effective tool for design scheme evaluation in the field of oceanographic buoys.

  • Ground anchor should not be used in soft clay, because anchor resistance can not be guaranteed. However, there is a way to increase the capacity of anchors. The pulse powered anchor is an underreamed anchor by using high voltage electrokinetic pulse energy. In this study, a series of field test were carried out in order to find expansion rate related in number of pulse charge. and Anchor pull-out tests were performed at the Geotechnical Experimentation Site at Sungkyunkwan University in Suwon, Korea. Data were analyzed in order to define a relation between expansion rate and ultimate pullout load.

Determination of antibiotics by SPE-LC-MS/MS in wastewater and risk assessment

  • In this study, conditions of solid phase extraction (SPE) for determination of some antibiotics such as trimethoprim, oxytetracycline, erythromycin, clarithromycin, azythromycin, doxycycline, sulfamethazine, ciprofloxacin, chlortetracycline, sulfamethoxazole in wastewaters were optimized. After the optimum volume and pH of the sample were determined, the effect of the concentration of the compounds and matrix were investigated. The highest recovery rates for antibiotic compounds were determined between 82% and 105% in 200 mL sample volume and pH 2.5. Then, antibiotic compounds were investigated in influent and effluent samples taken from Konya Urban Wastewater Treatment Plant.   • This project addresses the product identification and design application of corrugated products for kinetic architectural applications. Initially, an architectural approach to product identification was carried out with the end goal of demonstrating application design principles of numerous novel architectural examples from the forest products industry. A design and prototyping stage followed demonstrating such application design principles and functional analysis on various novel architectural examples. The results of coupling product identification with proven application advantages will be of potential value not only to architecture but also to other designers in the arts and sciences. The general motivation for the research arises out of a growing interest corrugated and paper products to be ideally suited for various architectural applications for their unparallel environmental benefits. Applications in architecture that use fewer resources and that adapt efficiently to complex and changing conditions are particularly relevant for an industry (architecture) that is increasingly aware of its environmental responsibilities. Corrugated and paper products are highly under-utilized by the building industry as design choice material for both interior and exterior applications. An increased awareness of the benefits of corrugated and paper products coupled with a process of designing for the total use and reuse will prove to be a valuable means by which issues of energy efficiency and environmental quality of buildings could be enhanced to be more efficient, affordable, and therefore reach a broader audience of users.

Cooling Effects of Botanical Garden in Urban Campus during Summer (대학캠퍼스 식물원의 하절기 기온저감 효과에 관한 연구)

  • The cooling effects of botanical garden in urban are was investigated at Sungkyunwan University Natural Science Campus and nearby urban area during summer (20/06/2008-30/08/2008). Temperature and humidity data were observed, downloaded and analyzed. After observation single-family residential area (TNH) showed the highest air temperature while botanical garden (ARB) did the lowest one. UHI intensity between TNH and ARB was derived and investigated. The average UHI intensity was $1.5^{\circ}C$ while maximum UHI intensity was recorded at 21 : 20 by $2.29^{\circ}C$, and minimum UHI intensity at 09 : 20 by $0.45^{\circ}C$. Overall the average air temperature of botanical garden was lower to surrounding urban area by $0.5-1.5^{\circ}C$. So it was found out the botanical garden contributes to the cooling effect of the surrounding area as an urban cooling island.

  • Floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) facilities are used at most of the offshore oil fields worldwide. FPSO usage is expected to grow as oil fields move to deeper water, thus requiring the reliability and stability of mooring wires and risers in extreme environmental conditions. Except for the case of predictable attack angles of external loadings, FPSO facilities with turret single point mooring (SPM) systems are in general use. There are two types of turret systems: permanent systems and disconnectable turret mooring systems. Extreme environment criteria for permanent moorings are usually based on a 100-year return period event. It is common to use two or three environments including the 100-year wave with associated wind and current, and the 100-year wind with associated waves and current. When fitted with a disconnectable turret mooring system, FPSOs can be used in areas where it is desirable to remove the production unit from the field temporarily to prevent exposure to extreme events such as cyclones or large icebergs. Static and dynamic mooring analyses were performed to evaluate the stability of a spider buoy after disconnection from a turret during cyclone environmental conditions.

  • The present study aimed to find a way to create forms that can simultaneously meet several architectural requirements by applying generative design methods specifically focused on cellular automata. In other words, it is tried to find various forms of architecture that all have common features. Because of the useful features of cellular automata, we decided to use it to generate various forms, but make a relation between the discrete nature of cellular automata and the continuous nature of architecture, was the major problem of our project. To achieve this goal, three consecutive stages were designed. In the first stage, independent variables including the location of the building, the height of the building, and the building area were considered as the inputs of the model. In the second stage, after locating the building, the building's main shell was designed as a hidden geometry for the cellular automata and then the cellular automata were determined based on this shell. The main result of this research is establishing a logical relationship between the discrete geometry of the cellular automata and the continuous search space such that it creates various optimized forms. Although we specify the site plan of this project at Iran-Tehran, this research can be generalized to various design sites as well as different projects, allowing the architectsto alter the cell dimensions, cell density, etc., based on their opinion and project needs.

Change of Road Surface Design and Perception of Streetscape in Urban Areas (노면 디자인 차이가 가로경관 인식에 미치는 영향)

  • This study aimed to investigate the impact of pavement design changes on user perceptions, with the objective of enhancing safety in urban streetscape. A total of 72 participants were recruited, and the study focused on alleyways in areas with a high risk of crime. Employing the Semantic Differential (SD) methodology, an assessment was conducted to gauge participants' perceptions of three different pavement types (A-type, B-type, C-type) as well as the existing pavement. The results indicated that the C-type pavement, characterized by vibrant and harmonious color palettes and patterns, elicited the highest levels of perceived safety, comfort, and openness among users. This signifies that physical environmental improvements through color design can mitigate the feelings of insecurity and foster emotional stability. Therefore it is recommended to implement various color schemes and pattern designs to road surface for enhancing user safety in high-risk urban areas.

Usage of Waterbirds on the Artificial Floating Islands in Reservoir using UAV (무인항공기를 활용한 저수지 인공식물섬 조류 이용현황 분석)

  • Water-Birds are the birds that occupy the highest proportion in Korea, inland wetlands and reservoirs provide them with a good environment as habitat, but their habitats have been losing because of thoughtless development. Therefore, artificial plant islands in reservoirs are important for improving habitat environment and providing food resources. However, there are no research and standards on the built and management of artificial plant islands. So this study is to find out the density of bird using artificial plant island as habitat through monitoring using UAV focus on the Cheonho-reservoirs located in Seobuk-gu, Cheonan-si(Middle Chungcheong Province). Further, the correlation analysis with environmental factors was conducted to determine the effect of artificial plant islands as habitats for water-birds. The supervised classification of the three-time images taken by the drone identified 244 white-billed ducks and 46 mandarin ducks. The utilization rate was different for each photographed date, and more individuals were identified in wet artificial plant islands than dry ones. As a result of analyzing the utilization follow environmental factors, the distance from the trail showed a significant correlation, and the other factors did not have a statistically significant effect. This study is the first case of the UAV monitoring method of the water-birds using artificial plant islands in the reservoir, and can be used as the basic data for the built and management.
