  • Seasonal changes of the phytoplankton community was investigated from July 2000 to April 2001 at the river bed lake, Jangjwa Lake in the Imjin River, which appeared to be the most natural condition. A total of phytoplankton were composed of 112 taxa, belonging to 5 divisions,83 species, 10 varieties,1 variety-form, 1 form and 17 unidentified species. Of those, the green algae and the diatoms were present during the investigation periods more frequently then the other taxa. The phytoplantton standing crops varied from $2,943{\times}10^3\;cells/l$ on April 2001 to $5,742{\times}10^3\;cells/l$ on January 2001. The phytoplankton standing crops had a continuous high value over $3,000{\times}10^3\;cells/l$ during the investigated periods and showed the highest value during winter period. The major dominant species were Aulacoseira granulata, Chlamydomonas nivalis v. kobayasii, Dinobryon sertularia, Mougeotia so. and Uroglenopsis americana. Among those, Chlamydomonas nivalis v. kobayasii was a major dominant species during winter period.

  • Hemispherical dimples with diameter, ø=$60{\mu}m$ and depth, d= $30{\mu}m$ were created on the metal and ceramics surfaces using INYA 10 watt Laser of 1064 nm wavelength. This study reports the influence of dimple pitch on friction and wear behavior rather than dimple size, depth and density. LST was performed on the specimens with dimple pitch and density in the range of 80 to-$200{\mu}m$ and 44 to 7 %, respectively. Surface topography was analyzed by using roughness measurement, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and optical microscopy. Friction and wear characteristics were analyzed on textured surfaces at lubricating environment to observe the effect of surface texturing on reduction of friction and wear. Reduction on coefficient of friction was achieved by more than 70% due to the dual behavior of dimples as wear (debris) traps and lubricant reservoirs. Wear reduced significantly for the textured surface as compared to the polished surface. Moreover, the friction coefficient of the textured specimens reduced with increasing load and speed which may be attributed to the transition of lubrication regime.

  • Gas metal arc welding (GMAW) is currently the most widely used arc welding processes in the industry because of its high metal deposition rate, flexibility and low cost. It is attractive for high-productivity manufacturing applications and is well suited to automatic or robotic welding. Welding voltage and current have a significant impact on the weld bead. However, welding voltage and current are changed variously according to welding condition and user environment, and prediction is impossible. To determine the welding conditions, the welding current and voltage are applied to the appropriate data analysis techniques. In this paper, we used the moving average filter to the welding voltage and current data, and normal and abnormal welding waves were distinguished.

  • The purpose of this study is to predict multiplication patterns of foodborne pathogens according to packaging methods and storage conditions in home-delivered meals. Pan fried oak mushroom and meat, soy sauce glazed hair tail and roasted dodok which inoculated $10^6\;CFU/g$ of foodborne pathogens were packaged by wrap packaging, top sealing, vacuum packaging and stored at 25, 4 and $-18^{\circ}C$ during 5 days. The result of study was revealed that the growth and multiplication pattern of the inoculated foodborne pathogens was inhibited in chilling and freezing storage after vacuum packaging, and was significantly influenced by storage temperature. The survival of Listeria monocytogenes was also significantly influenced by storage period. The effective method to preserve the bacteriologic safety of pan fried oak mushroom and meat and soy sauce glazed hair tail in home-delivered meals was stored for maximum three days in chilling storage after vacuum packaging.

  • Arrangement of the facilities for improving harbor functions depends on sea and land conditions such as the ship's arrival and departure conditions, waves and tide. And the plan and the size of the facilities depend much on harbor and marine environment condition such as cargo quantity, ship size, ship traffic and seawater circulation. Among these, waves have so much effect on a breakwater design that it is the most important to understand their characteristics and to apply them to breakwater design. Therefore, to analyze the effect of waves characteristics over a rubble mound breakwater, we have calculated wave pressure by using numerical analysis at each tide level and have analyzed the effect of wave pressure on structure stability by conducting the stability analysis with the wave pressure. As a result, it is found that during low and mean tide level time the biggest wave pressure is estimated near calm water level. But during high tide time, the biggest wave pressure is estimated in front of capping. And the stability analysis indicates also that a structure is most unstable when low tide time wave pressure is acting on. After reviewing the stability of a structure by applying vertical and horizon wave forces, it is concluded that safety factor is lower than ordinary time(max. about 15%), is also reviewed when designing a rubble mound breakwater.

  • On this study, engineering properties of SGR method and SMI method, which are typical sodium silicate methods, were compared through the laboratory test and durability, strength, waterproof characteristic and environmental effects were compared and analyzed with period and condition of curing on each case. As a result of durability test, volume change of SGR is approximately 23-times greater than SMI and the effects on environment are appeared safe on all method. In case of waterproof characteristic test, permeability coefficient is decreased about 24% on SMI, whereas on SGR permeability coefficient is showed to increase because rapid volume change make wider void. Strength characteristics of SMI are appeared higher about 11-times in case of homogel and 3.9-times in case of sandgel than SGR. Which is because volume change of SMI, caused by leaching, is smaller than SGR.

  • The soil mechanical characteristics according to geologic conditions were investigated in the study area. The geology of study area was consisted of Ingok Tuff, Yuchi Conglomerate and Dado Tuff. Yuchi Tuff covered about 80% of the study area. The disturbed and undisturbed soils were sampled from the conglomerate area, Tuff area and Shale area, and then a series of the laboratory soil tests was performed. The soils sampled from the conglomerate area have a large dry unit weight and a low permeability relatively, while the soils sampled from tuff and shale areas have a small dry unit weight and a high permeability. It is proven that the soil permeability is highly affected by the effective grain size and the silt and clay content. That is, the soil permeability is increased with increasing the effective grain size, and the soil permeability is decreased with increasing the silt and clay content.

  • This paper presents the analysis condition of remediation technique of contaminated fine-grained soil and physical properties of bio-degradable drain for analysis site applicability using bio-degradable drain method. As the result, two kinds of developed degradable drains (cylindricality shaped and harmonica shaped) are satisfied the Korean Industrial Standard. And the cylindricality shaped drain has an excellent discharge capacity than that of another one. By the results of laboratory test, the citric acid is chosen as the washing agent because it has low toxicity, so it is able to minimize harmful influence to environment. Furthermore the subject contaminants were selected as Cd, Cu and Pb. Based on the field pilot test results, the most remedial efficiency is the use of reactive material applied in bio-degradable drain method with the process of injecting the washing agent and extraction of contaminated fluid.

  • The design and construction of underground structures contain many substantial mincer dainties. A reasonable estimation of geotechnical parameters is of paramount importance and must be one of the most difficult tasks in designing and constructing underground structures. If the plastic zone exists by tunnel excavation, the ground response may also be dependent on the yield criterion mainly composed of strength parameters. In order to estimate unknown model parameters from the in-situ measurements as well as prior estimates for designing tunnels which have plastic zones, the Extended Bayesian Method(EBM) is adopted : an elasto-plastic finite element program is linked to the EBM as a mathematical model to predict the ground response. Mohr-Coulomb failure criterion is used to represent the plastic behavior. A hypothetical underground site, where the ground behaves elasto-plastically, is adopted to demonstrate the validity of the proposed feedback system.

  • Strong thermal X-ray emission, called Galactic Ridge X-ray Emission, is observed along the Galactic plane (Koyama et al. 1986). The origin of hot ($\~$7 keV) component of GRXE is not known, while cool ($\~$0.8 keV) one is associated with supernovae (Kaneda et al. 1997, Sugizaki et al. 2001). We propose a possible mechanism to explain the origin; locally strong magnetic fields of $B_{local}\;\~30{\mu}G$ heat interstellar gas to $\~$7 keV via magnetic reconnection (Tanuma et al. 1999). There will be the small-scale (< 10 pc) strong magnetic fields, which can be observed as $(B)_{obs} \;\~3{\mu}G$ by integration of Faraday Rotation Measure, if it is localized by a volume filling factor of f $\~$ 0.1. In order to examine this model, we solved three-dimensional (3D) resistive magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) equations numerically to examine the magnetic reconnect ion triggered by a supernova shock (fig.l). We assume that the magnetic field is Bx = 30tanh(y/20pc) $\mu$G, By = Bz = 0, and the temperature is uniform, at the initial condition. We put a supernova explosion outside the current sheet. The supernova-shock, as a result, triggers the magnetic reconnect ion, and the gas is heatd to > 7 keV. The magnetic reconnect ion heats the interstellar gas to $\~$7 keV in the Galactic plane, if it occurs in the locally strong magnetic fields of $B_{local}\;\~30{\mu}G$. The heated plasma is confined by the magnetic field for $\~10^{5.5} yr$. The required interval of the magnetic reconnect ions (triggered by anything) is $\~$1 - 10 yr. The magnetic reconnect ion will explain the origin of X-rays from the Galactic ridge, furthermore the Galactic halo, and clusters of galaxies.
