  • There have been various educational approaches to foster students' creativity in engineering colleges, but little has been conducted based on empirical study results of students' perception on creativity education. This study aims to explore the students' perception on creativity in engineering such as characteristics of creative engineers, the level of individual or group creativity and creative education in engineering colleges. According to the survey results of 538 respondents, engineering students considered three factors such as 'innovative driven', 'eager for high intellectuality', 'activity expression' as characteristics of creative engineer. They evaluated both of individual or group creativity levels as subnormal. They perceived the importance of creativity education, but were not satisfied with current creativity educational experiences. They pointed out 'limited supports of nation or organization', 'credit system decided by the paper-based exam', 'non-systematized creativity classes' as impending factors for creativity in engineering education. Students suggested 'securing the budget for practice and field participation', 'changing of perception on creativity education itself', 'developing the creativity classes combined with engineering subjects' as fostering factors in creativity education. This studdy suggests several implications of educational approaches to creativity education in engineering colleges.

  • It is proposed to raise the debate on Engineering and Technical Education at the global economic level and to examine some of the issues facing developing and poorer countries in managing and improving the quality of engineering education in their countries, especially in the context of internet and IT culture After the fall of the Berlin Wall, the world is now divided in two realigned blocks: one of developed(rich or advanced) countries which have a social security safety net for their population and another of developing(or poor) countries which have no such luxuries for their population. For the general public in the developing countries, any engineering or technical degree/diploma is a passport to lifelong wellbeing of an individual and his/her extended family. Therefore, the demand for such qualifications is very high and it is almost a rat race amongst school leavers to get into engineering/technical colleges. In view of this booming demand, there are hundreds of privately funded engineering/technical colleges in countries like Philippines, India, Thailand, etc., besides state funded ones. It is extremely difficult to ensure good quality in this mushrooming scenario. There are also many very small poorly resourced developing countries where there is only one engineering school and/or two-three technical colleges. Products of these schools/colleges work only in their own country and education globalization have little or no meaning for them. Besides highlighting the aforementioned general issues, the Paper also presents a few case studies on problems of accreditation and quality assessment in larger developing countries like India and the Philippines. The Paper also discusses the effects of commercialization on the quality of education and social impacts of IT revolution on educational processes.

The survey results of 175 students who completed clinical practice for the first term of 2003. The survey was conducted through mail or e-mail between July 20 and August 20, 2003. The data were analyzed frequency, percentage, t-test, and one-way ANOVA using the SPSS/PC Ver. 10.0 (${\alpha}=0.05$). The results were as follows; 1. The mean score for the level of points interpersonal relations was 41.06 points in full 80 points. Therefore most students had a little problem on interpersonal relations. 2. More difficulties of interpersonal relations were felt by students in the following order; clinical instructors, patients, other students, and other department staffs in the hospital. 3. Between students and clinical physical therapist in the hospital, most students were satisfied with a instructor's attitude toward there (61.1%). 4. Between students and other department staffs in the hospital, most students were felt convenient when faced with other staffs(61.8%). 5. Between students and patients in the hospital, most students didn't uncomfortable when they made a rapport(69.2%). 6. Between students and other college students, most students were didn't inconvenient when they were practicing together(69.8%). 7. The students with higher marks in major felt more difficulties for forming personal relations with other department staffs in hospital, patient, and other students(p<0.05). 8. The students showed more felt inconveniences over 8 weeks practicing than below 7 weeks itperiods of clinical practice(p<0.05). 9. • Many colleges in Korea have been making a concentrated effort to develop engineering certification education programs, fit for the certification standards and the reality of each college. However, in reality, many colleges and departments in Korea have great difficulties in making the curriculums meet the engineering certification standards to be proper for the present situation of each college. Therefore, this study aims at suggesting the most general way to make a specialized liberal arts curriculum for the colleges preparing for the engineering certification. When this is applied to the architectural engineering program curriculums of each college, students will be able to take specialized liberal arts subjects which are appropriate for their future careers and aptitudes, and also enterprises will be able to curtail educational expenses for their new employees and hire competent people who combine fundamental personality, basic knowledge about the work, and foreign language proficiency. Furthermore, the nation will be able to secure national competitive power through systematization of engineering education and realistic educational systems.

  • The purpose of this study was to develop and present the accreditation criteria for engineering technology education programs in junior colleges. Research methods used in this study were review of related literature, experts discussion, and Delphi technique. Especially, Delphi technique was the major research method of this study. The Delphi surveys were taken for about seven weeks and three rounds at a higher level of expert participation. Major results of the study were as follows: 1. It proved that thirty six of total forty items had the content validity as the accreditation criteria of engineering technology education programs for junior colleges. CVR(Content Validity Ratio) of four items were below .33 and eliminated four items from the final accreditation criteria. 2. It proved that total Cronbach ${\alpha}$ was very high .9142 and reliability was very high all over items. It proved that six items made worse reliability, therefore it was desirable to exclude six items for increase of reliability. But the final accreditation criteria included six items, because they had a high validity as well as increasing rate of Cronbach ${\alpha}$ was very low with the exception of them. 3. Items of high importance were drawn out through analysis of importance. It proved that thirty of total forty items were more than 4.00 average in importance and ten items were less than average. 4. In conclusion, the final accreditation criteria were developed and presented through such analysis of validity, reliability and importance. The final accreditation criteria for engineering technology education programs in junior colleges were composed of seven domains of educational objectives, learning outcomes, curriculum, staff, facilities, institutional support, and student assessment.

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the effects of accreditation on curriculum in Korean engineering education. To analyze the curriculum, bulletins of three colleges accredited programs and three colleges non-accredited programs from 2002 to 2010 were compared. The conclusions of this study are as follows. First, the accreditation for engineering education has a considerable influence on curriculum by strengthening the concentration areas, setting general education directions to fit engineering needs, and reinforcing major and MSC(math, science and computer) subjects. Secondly, the accreditation for engineering education causes significant changes in the educational objectives and contents. Lastly, it has an indirect influence on the curricula of non-accredited programs, such as increasing the number of MSC credits and accepting engineering design courses. Thus, the process of curriculum improvement is revealed in more global standardized engineering curricula.
