  • The objective of this paper was to show the possibility of demand-controlled ventilation (DCV) using the current Korean ventilation standard for multi-purposed facilites. Two attractive DCV approaches; $CO_2$-DCV and RFID-DCV were applied to DCV simulations for a theoretical public assembly space served by a dedicated outdoor air system (DOAS) with enthalpy recovery device. A numerical model for predicting realtime occupant number, ventilation rate, and $CO_2$ concentration under given conditions was developed using a commercial equation solver program. It was found that the current ventilation standard causes unstable ventilation system control in DCV applications, especially under $CO_2$-DCV. It is because the ventilation rate (per person) used in Korea is the sum of the outdoor air required to remove or dilute air contaminants generated by both occupant and building itself, and not a pure function of occupant numbers. Finally, it makes DCV control unstable when ventilation flow is regulated only by the number of occupants. In order for solving this problem, current Korean ventilation standard was modified as a form of ASHRAE Standard 62.1-2007 showing good applicability to various DCV approaches. It was found that this modification enhances applicability of the current ventilation standard to DCV significantly.

  • These days, Apartment is altered oversized and high-rise through construction techniques development. Also, the cost of cooling and heating load would be expected by balcony expansion into inner space caused by legalization. In specially, HVAC systems of high-rise residential building almost apply to pre-existence techniques of middle and low residential building except for consideration and methods of the air inflow minimization into indoor through mechanical ventilation is used in ventilation system. From these cause, window systems of high-rise apartments stands high in estimation of components. Thus, purpose of this study is to make a comparative study through difference of window systems.

  • SIMOX SOI is known to be one of the most useful technologies for fabrications of new generation ULSI devices. This paper describes the current status of SIMOX SOI technology for ULSI applications. The SIMOX wafer is vertically composed of buried oxide layer and silicon epitaxial layer on top of the silicon substrate. The buried oxide layer is used for the vertical isolation of devices The oxide layer is formed by high energy ion implantation of high dose oxygen into the silicon wafer, followed by high temperature annealing. SIMOX-based CMOS fabrication is transparent to the conventional IC processing steps without well formation. Furthermore, thin film CMOX/SIMOX can overcome the technological limitations which encountered in submicron bulk-based CMOS devices, i.e., soft-error rate, subthreshold slope, threshold voltage roll-off, and hot electron degradation can be improved. SIMOX-based bipolar devices are expected to have high density which comparable to the CMOX circuits. Radiation hardness properties of SIMOX SOI extend its application fields to space and military devices, since military ICs should be operational in radiation-hardened and harsh environments. The cost of SIMOX wafer preparation is high at present, but it is expected to reduce as volume increases. Recent studies about SIMOX SOI technology have demonstrated that the performance of the SIMOX-based submicron devices is superior to the circuits using the bulk silicon.

  • In AlGaAs/GaAs HBT the temperature dependence of DC parameters was investigated over the temperature range between 95K and 580K. The temperature dependence of DC parameters depends on the relative contribution of each of the current components suc as emitter-injection-current, base-injection-current, bulk recombination current, interface recombination curretn, thermal generation ecurrent and avalanche current due to impact ionization within the collector space charge layer in a specific temperature. In this paper we investigated the temperature effects on DC parameters such as V$_{BE,ON}$ current gain, input and output characteristics, V$_{CE, OFF}$, R$_{E}$, R$_{C}$ and analyzed the origins, and extracted the qualitativ econditions for a stable HBTs against the temperature variation. Finally, in order to keep HBTs stable with respect to the variation of temperature, the valance-band-energy-discontinuity at emitter-base heterojunction should be large enough to enhance the effect of carrier suppression at a relatively high temperature. In addition the recombination centers, especially around collector junction, should be removed and the area of emitter and collector junction should be identical as well.

  • A high efficiency small electromagnet (22 mm air gap and $40{\times}25mm^{2}$ core's cross section) suitable for measuring magnetostriction and magnetic anisotropy was biult. The magnet could be minaturized by reducing the measuring space and time. The excitation current of the electromagnet was supplied for only a few second of measuring time. Cooling system of the electromagnet could be eliminated since the dissipation energy was very small. An 0.5 T magnetic field was generated with 180 W power consumption. The values of magnetostriction and magnetic anisotropy were measured with a very sensitive capacitance cell with resolution of $10^{-8}$ and 1 nJ. The torque was calibrated using a soft magnetic ribbon's shape anisotropy.

  • The static and dynamic responses of guyed telecommunication towers can be determined by using two models, the space truss element model, and the equivalent beam-column element model. The equivalent beam-column analysis is based on the determination of the equivalent shear, torsion, and bending rigidities as well as the equivalent area of the guyed mast. In the literature, two methods are currently available to determine the equivalent properties of lattice structures, namely: the unit load method, and the energy approach. In this study, an equivalent beam-column analysis is introduced based on an equivalent thin plate approach for lattice structures. A finite-element modeling, using suitably modified ABAQUS software, is used to investigate the accuracy of utilizing the different proposed methods in determining the static and dynamic responses of a guyed tower of 364.5-meter high subjected to static and seismic loading conditions. The results from these analyses are compared to those obtained from a finite-element modeling of the actual structure using 3-D truss and beam elements. Good agreement is shown between the different proposed beam-column models, and the model of the actual structure. However, the proposed equivalent thin plate approach is simpler to apply than the other two approaches.

  • In this study, horse spleen apoferritins were induced to form biominerals using up to 3000 Fe atoms per protein molecule. The morphology and crystallinity of the nanometer-sized biominerals formed in the ferritins were then analyzed using field emission-energy filtering-transmission electron microscopy (FE-TEM). The ferritins were found to have reconstitution yields of 60-70% in the experiments. The mean core size of the ferritins varied somewhat with protein concentrations, indicating that crystal growth in ferritins could be controlled via protein concentrations. The core mineral size increased with the amount of Fe used. Lattice fringes of the core, associated with good crystallinity, were found in all samples. The lattice fringe images of a single domain ferrihydrite mineral appeared frequently in the (011) planes (d-spacing of 0.246 nm) under [100] zone axis in all samples of this study. In addition, the lattice image occasionally revealed fringes corresponding to the (100) planes (d = 0.254 nm) from the [001] zone axis, indicating the characteristic pattern of hexagonal crystal lattice. Diffraction patterns in the minerals identified as ferrihydrite were fitted well into the space group of $P3_{1c}$.

  • The purpose of this study is to research the characteristics of literature related to environmentally friendly for a village-focused green index. In order to make an assessment, keywords relating to green architecture were selected: environmental friendliness, ecology, sustainable, Noksaek (Green in Korean), green, and environmentally friendly. In addition, three keywords defining the scope of space were also selected: building, village, and city. Quantitative changes and contents of articles containing the keywords were analyzed. The result is as follows. First, 'sustainable' and 'ecology' were the terms most frequently used as parts of subjects and titles, respectively. Second, the studies relating to green architecture focused on villages mostly examine the actual conditions of the villages; criteria for environmental friendliness, analyses and evaluation of the environmentally friendly features of the village; and ways to establish a green, ecological, and sustainable village. Finally, when it came to establishing a village-focused green index, the environment, resources, and energy are shown to be very important elements. In addition, the term 'ecology' in a green index is shown to be significant for the management of the natural environment.

  • We present results of our investigation of intrinsic brightness temperatures of compact radio jets at radio frequencies. The intrinsic brightness temperatures of about 100 compact radio jets at 2, 5, 8, 15, and 86 GHz are estimated based on large VLBI surveys conducted in 2001-2003 (or in 1996 for the 5 GHz sample). The multi-freqeuncy intrinsic brightness temperatures of the sample of the jets are determined with a statistical method relating the observed brightness temperatures with the maximal apparent jet speed, assuming one representative intrinsic brightness temperature for the sample at each observing frequency. With investigating the observed brightness temperatures at 15 GHz in multiple epochs, we found that the determination of the intrinsc brightness temperature for our sample is affected by variability of individual jets in flux density at the time scales of a few years. This implies an importance of contemporaneity of the multi-frequency VLBI observations for the statistical method. Since our analysis is based on the VLBI observations conducted in 2001-2003, the results are less affected by the flux density variability. We found that the intrinsic brightness temperature $T_0$ increases as $T_0{\propto}{\nu}^{\epsilon}$ with ${\epsilon}{\approx}0.7$ below a critical frequency ${\nu}_c{\approx}10GHz$ where energy losses begin to dominate the emission, and above the critical frequency, $T_0$ decreases with ${\epsilon}{\approx}-1.2$ supporting for the decelerating jet model.
