  • In this study, we demonstrate the photoelectrochromic devices composed of $TiO_2$ and $WO_3$ nanostructures prepared by anodization method. The morphology and the crystal structure of anodized $TiO_2$ nanotubes and $WO_3$ nanoporous layers are investigated by SEM and XRD. To fabricate a transparent photoelectrode on FTO substrate, a $TiO_2$ nanotube membrane, which has been detached from Ti substrate, is transferred to FTO substrate and annealed at $450^{\circ}C$ for 1 hr. The photoelectrode of $TiO_2$ nanotube and the counter electrode of $WO_3$ nanoporous layer are assembled and the inner space is filled with a liquid electrolyte containing 0.5 M LiI and 5 mM $I_2$ as a redox mediator. The properties of the photoelectrochromic devices is investigated and Pt-$WO_3$ electrode system shows better electrochromic performance compared to $WO_3$ electrode.

  • The removal of nitrogen oxides(NOx) from $N_{2}/O_{2}$ gas using a pulsed corona discharge was investigated as a function of the reduced electric field(E/N) and the energy density(J/L). A kinetic model was developed to characterize the chemical reactions taking place in a pulsed corona discharge reactor. The model calculates the fractional concentrations of radical species at each pulse-on period and utilizes the radicals to remove NOx for the subsequent pulse-off period. Electron collision reaction data are calculated using ELENDIF program to solve Boltzmann equation for electron energy distribution function, and the subsequent chemical reactions are calculated using CHEMKIN-II program to solve stiff ODE(ordinary differential equation) problems for species concentrations. The corona discharge energy per pulse and the time-space averaged E/N were obtained by fitting the model to experimental data. The model calculation shows good agreement with the experimental data, and predicts the formation of other species such as $NO_{2}$, $O_{3}$ and $N_{2}O$.

  • In this paper, we propose a robust moving object tracking(MOT) method based on motion energy and prediction. MOT consists of two steps: moving object extraction step(MOES) and moving object tracking step(MOTS). For MOES, we use improved motion energy method. For MOTS, we predict the next location of moving object based on distance and direction information among previous instances, so that we can reduce the search space for correspondence. We apply the method to both synthetic and real world sequences and find that the method works well even in the presence of occlusion and disocclusion.

  • Outside wall systems we lost much energy from the dew of thermal bridge and unsuitable adiabatic construction. The air vent wall system can make reduce cooling loads from the outside wall in summer. The basic concept is connected with buoyant force by the difference of density. An external surface of a wall absorbs solar radiation, and transfers it to the air in the cavity. The warmed air gets buoyant force. So the warmed air is released through the top opening and cooler outside air replaces the space in the cavity. So because of the cavity and the openings, the cooling load reduction by natural ventilation is believed to be considerable. The purpose of this study is finding optimal length of air cavity by numerical analyses.

  • No matter how intense magnetic flux it contains, a coronal magnetic structure has little free magnetic energy when a composing magnetic field is close to a potential field, or current-free field where no volume electric current flows. What kind of electric current system is developed is therefore a key to evaluating the activity of a coronal magnetic structure. Since the corona is a highly conductive medium, a coronal electric current tends to survive without being dissipated, so the free magnetic energy provided by a coronal electric current is normally hard to release in the corona. This work aims at clarifying how a coronal electric current system is structurally developed into a system responsible for producing a flare. Toward this end, we perform diffusive MHD simulations for the emergence of a magnetic flux tube with different twist applied to it, and go through the process of structuring a coronal electric current in a twisted flux tube emerging to form a coronal magnetic structure. Interestingly, when a strongly twisted flux tube emerges, there spontaneously forms a structure inside the flux tube, where a coronal electric current changes flow pattern from field-aligned dominant to cross-field dominant. We demonstrate that this structure plays a key role in releasing free magnetic energy via rapid dissipation of a coronal electric current, thereby producing a flare.

  • In this paper, a new spectrum sensing method based on energy detection is proposed and analyzed in a cognitive radio(CR) system. We employ a delay diversity receiver for sensing the primary user's spectrum with reasonable cost and complexity. Conventional CR with the receiver equipping multiple antennas requires additional hardware and space for installing multiple antennas in accordance with increase in the number of antennas. If the number of antennas increases, detection probability as well as hardware complexity and cost rise. Then, it is difficult to make a primary user detector practically. Therefore, we adopt a delay diversity receiver for solving problems of the conventional spectrum detector utilizing multiple antennas. We derive analytical expressions for the spectrum sensing performance of the proposed system. From the simulation results, it is demonstrated that the primary user detector with the delay diversity receiver has almost half the complexity and shows similar or improved performance as compared with that employing multiple antennas. Therefore, the proposed spectrum sensing structure can be a practical solution for enhancing the detection capacity in CR system operations. The results of this paper can be applied to legacy CR systems with simple modifications.

  • In the present study, the ignition characteristics of liquid fuel were experimentally investigated. To quantify its ignitability as ignition characteristics, the minimum ignition energy (MIE) of liquid fuel was defined and measured under at the elevated oxygen concentrations and reduced atmospheric pressures which that are the most probable conditions likely to be encountered during operation of the space launch vehicle's operating process. The experimental results demonstrate that the measured MIE decreased with the increasing the oxygen concentration at given atmospheric pressures. When the atmospheric pressure was reduced from 1 atm to 0.2 atm at a fixed oxygen concentration, the measured MIE was found to vary with $P^{-2}$ but the lowest MIE was observed at 0.8 atm.

  • Solar Air Systems (SAS) have unique advantages for space heating and tempering ventilation air. Air, unlike water, needs no protection against freezing nor are leaks damaging to the building structure or its contents. In contrast to glazed collector, unglazed steel solar collector may have higher efficiencies over glazed flat collector due to the absence of the glass. Therefore, the monitoring of SAS is so important to evaluate actual performance of SAS for right applications. This study is to provide a testing method with a movable test cell developed in KIER to evaluate the thermal performance of SAS based on international standard method ASHRAE 93-86, "Method of Testing to Determine the Thermal Performance of Solar Collectors". The monitoring tool used advanced technique LabVIEW 6i with portable notebook computer. Sample results have been obtained to access the performance of a reference and a target SAS module. The process and tool introduced here could be used to provide a performance verification data for future implementation study applications.

  • We introduced a scheme for finding an optimal data association matrix that represents the relationships between the measurements and tracks in multi-target tracking (MIT). We considered the relationships between targets and measurements as Markov Random Field and assumed a priori of the associations as a Gibbs distribution. Based on these assumptions, it was possible to reduce the MAP estimate of the association matrix to the energy minimization problem. After then, we defined an energy function over the measurement space that may incorporate most of the important natural constraints. To find the minimizer of the energy function, we derived a new equation in closed form. By introducing Lagrange multiplier, we derived a compact equation for parameters updating. In this manner, a pair of equations that consist of tracking and parameters updating can track the targets adaptively in a very variable environments. For measurements and targets, this algorithm needs only multiplications for each radar scan. Through the experiments, we analyzed and compared this algorithm with other representative algorithm. The result shows that the proposed method is stable, robust, fast enough for real time computation, as well as more accurate than other method.
