  • Color indexes and effective temperatures for 25 standard stars have been determined as a pilot project which show a relationship between color index and effective temperature in ultraviolet region. The effective temperature was determined by comparing energy distribution curves derived from the IUE low dispersion spectra with Kurucz atmosphere model. The UV color index was deduced by integrating fluxes in $300{\AA}$ interval of the IUE low disperion spectra. The relation between color index and effective temperature in ultraviolet is similar with that of optical region.

  • This study reports one approach for the classification of magnetic storms into recurrent patterns. A storm event is defined as a local minimum of Dst index. The analysis of Dst index for the period of year 1957 through year 2000 has demonstrated that a large portion of the storm events can be classified into a set of recurrent patterns. In our approach, the classification is performed by seeking a categorization that minimizes thermodynamic free energy which is defined as the sum of classification errors and entropy. The error is calculated as the squared sum of the value differences between events. The classification depends on the noise parameter T that represents the strength of the intrinsic error in the observation and classification process. The classification results would be applicable in space weather forecasting.

  • In this study, paying much attention to notable features obtained from spatial distributions of strongly related indices (precipitable water, convergence of air, convective available potential energy) with precipitation, fatal problems in selecting strongly related indices with observed precipitation in a BAIU season were discussed. These results showed spatial distribution of a predicted index provided alternative and physically consistent interpretation for selecting dominant index for heavy rainfall even if the predicted index did not correlate with observed rainfall at a specific observational point as confirmed by the features of CONV (Convergence) or even if it correlated with observed rainfall as confirmed by those of PW (Precipitable Water). Therefore, dominant meteorological indices of heavy rainfall should be selected according to physically evidenced interpretation on features of spatial distributions of indices, and physically and statistically consistent relationship should be built up.

  • The purpose of this study is to suggest improvement plans of school green building certification system in the concept of the Green Building Index by comparing items of domestic system with those of foreign system. School is a public facility for students. So Green Building Certification System for School must have educational point of view adding to energy saving, reduction of greenhouse gas emission, etc. Also school is forming a large part with the apartment house in the green building certification system. So we need to manage the green building certification system for school to meet carbon reduction policy.

  • The purpose of this study is to propose a method to evaluate task complexity using CIFs(Complexity Influencing Factors). We developed a method that CIFs can be used in the evaluation of task complexity using fuzzy linguistic approach. That is, a fuzzy linguistic multi-criteria method to assess task complexity in a specific task situation was proposed. The CIFs luting was assessed in linguistic terms, which are described by fuzzy numbers with triangular and trapezoidal membership function. A fuzzy weighted average algorithm, based on the extension principle, was employed to aggregate these fuzzy numbers. Finally, the method was validated by experimental approach. In the result, it was validated that TCIM(Tink Complexity Index Method) is an efficient method to evaluate task complexity because the correlation coefficient between task performance time and TCI(Task Complexity Index) was 0.699.

  • SiO thin films are deposited by evaporator the refractive index of wave length, photon energy and the absorptive rate of these films are measured by spectroscopic ellipsometer. It is derived the absorptive rate and permitivity of SiO thin films from the equations that calculating the refractive index. And the result show good agreement with the calculated values and experimental values. As a result, the wave length of light is increased in the condition that the angle of incidence is fixed on SiO thin film, the basic absorption and the absorption impurities are found in the low wave length (below 450 nm in this study) and the reflective absorption and conductive absorption is increased by the form of exponential function over the low wavelength. The absorptive rate is increased by increased the angle of incidence and thickness of SiO film for the insulating layer. As the thickness of SiO film is increased, the value of complex permitivity is decreasing and as wave length of incidence is increased., the value of dielectric is linearly increasing.

  • This paper attempts to evaluate the impact of power plant penetration on constraints of a transmission network and proposes a methodology based on risk level, which can evaluate the condition of the network and facilities intuitionally. Furthermore, based on this methodology, RLII(Risk Level Improvement Index) is proposed in order to establish comprehensive TNEP(Transmission Network Expansion Planning) from a viewpoint of ISO(Independent System Operator). In order to verify the proposed methods in this paper, real power systems in Incheon and Shiheung areas, south Korea are applied to the case study.

  • High speed and large transfer capability of railroad has been an important issue in Korean since KTX opening at 2004. Improvement projects for railway electrification are progressed in the conventional line as well as high speed line because various operation plan is performed such as interaction between high speed line and conventional line and operation of tilting train etc. Especially, railway electrification has many advantages which are cost effective and eco-friendly. But it also has some problems such as construction costs and accidents due to electrification. Therefore this paper developed measuring index of electrification railway benefit. By comparing between diesel and electrical locomotive, the operations of before and after the electrification and measurements quantitative index such as energy efficiency, enlargement of transfer capability, environmental pollution and maintenance and efficiency of operation is presented. In the future, Overall benefit and cost of railway electrification will be analyzed.

Machine learning-based regression analysis for estimating Cerchar abrasivity index

  • The most widely used parameter to represent rock abrasiveness is the Cerchar abrasivity index (CAI). The CAI value can be applied to predict wear in TBM cutters. It has been extensively demonstrated that the CAI is affected significantly by cementation degree, strength, and amount of abrasive minerals, i.e., the quartz content or equivalent quartz content in rocks. The relationship between the properties of rocks and the CAI is investigated in this study. A database comprising 223 observations that includes rock types, uniaxial compressive strengths, Brazilian tensile strengths, equivalent quartz contents, quartz contents, brittleness indices, and CAIs is constructed. A linear model is developed by selecting independent variables while considering multicollinearity after performing multiple regression analyses. Machine learning-based regression methods including support vector regression, regression tree regression, k-nearest neighbors regression, random forest regression, and artificial neural network regression are used in addition to multiple linear regression. The results of the random forest regression model show that it yields the best prediction performance.

Room temperature deposition of SiN thin film using pulsed $SiH_4-N_2$ plasma and the effect of duty ratio on refractive index (펄스드 $SiH_4-N_2$ 플라즈마를 이용한 SiN 박막의 상온 증착과 굴절률에의 Duty ratio 영향)

  • Pulsed-PECVD를 이용하여 상온에서 실리콘 나이트라이드(SiN) 박막을 증착하였다. 본 연구에서는, 60-100%의 duty ratio 변화에 따른 굴절률을 살펴보고, 굴절률에 대한 이온에너지의 영향을 분석했다. RF 소스파워는 900W로 고정하였고 $SiH_4-N_2$를 이용하였다. 이온에너지에 대한 정보는 non-invasive 이온 분석기를 이용하여 수집하였다. 측정된 이온에너지 변수는 high ion energy, low ion energy, high ion energy flux, low ion energy flux이며, 이를 이용해 또 다른 변수인 ion energy flux ratio를 계산하였다. Duty ratio의 감소에 따라 굴절률은 일반적으로 감소하였다. 또한 duty ratio의 감소에 따라 high ion energy는 증가하였다. 한편, 60-80%에서 굴절률은 이온에너지 flux의 비에 강한 의존성을 보였으며, 60%를 제외한 모든 duty ratio 구간에서 굴절률은 Nl에 강하게 영향을 알고 있는 것으로 유추되었다. 굴절률은 1.508와 1.714 사이에서 변화하였다.
