  • The objective of this study was to assess improvements caused by chitosan, sericin and collagen peptide extract complexes (1:1:1, w/w/w, CSC-F-005) in lipid concentrations in the sera of dyslipidemic rats (SD strain) fed on experimental diets for 5 weeks. Serum concentrations of total cholesterol, HDL-cholesterol, ratio of HDL-cholesterol concentration to total cholesterol, atherosclerotic index, LDL-cholesterol, free cholesterol, cholesteryl ester, triglyceride, phospholipid and blood glucose were effective on the metabolic regulation of dyslipidemic rats. The activities of alkaline phosphatase, aspartate aminotransferase and alanine aminotransferase in serum were remarkably lower in the extract complexes (CSC-F-005) than in the dyslipidemic model. From the above results shows that CSC-F-005 extract complexes were effective on the improvement of the lipid metabolism in sera of dyslipidemic rats.

  • In this study the characteristics of chip formation of the cold drawn Bi-S free machining steels were assessed. And for comparison those of the cold drawn Pb-S free machining steel the hot rolled low carbon steel which has MnS as free machining inclusions and the conventional steels were also investigated. During chip formation the cold drawn free machining steels show relatively little change in thickness and width of chip compare to those of the conventional carbon steels. And a single parameter which indicates the degree of deformation during chip formation chip cross-section area ratio is introduced. The chip cross-section area ratio is defined as chip cross-section area is divided by undeformed chip cross-section area. The variational patters of the chip cross-section area ratio of the materials cut are similar to those of the shear strain values. The shear stress however seems to be dependent on the carbon content of the materials. The cold drawn Bi-S and Pb-S steels show nearly the same chip forming behaviors and the energy consumed during chip formation is almost same. A low carbon steel without free machining aids shows poor chip breakability due to its high ductility. By introducing a small amount of free machining inclusions such as MnS Bi, Pb or merely increasing carbon content the chip breakability improves significantly.

  • ZnO:Al films with about 500 nm thick were prepared by RF magnetron sputtering. The ZnO:Al films were annealed at 100 ℃, 200 ℃, 300 ℃, and 400 ℃ for 10 h, respectively. The resistivity, carrier concentration, and mobility variation of ZnO:Al films with heat treatments were measured. The causes of the resistivity variation of ZnO:Al films with heat treatments were investigated by utilizing the results of x-ray diffraction and field emission scanning electron microscope. The energy band gap, Urbach energy, and refractive index were obtained from the transmittance of ZnO:Al films. The change in electrical properties of the ZnO:Al film was explained in relation to the optical properties.

  • This study deals with the assessment indices about greening performance of datacenter. To do this, we survey existing standards and guidelines about datacenter. Those are used constructing new model of datacenter regarding greening performance. In this model, the relationship between major components will be represented by job-energy-thermal notation. Items, criteria and methods are created in order to complete the assessment indices. The existing assessment indices of the datacenter level and equipment level are investigated. Parameters, the degree of virtualization and energy efficiency also affects the performance of the green performance. Finally, to determine the improvements, the proposed indices is compared with the existing assessment tools.

  • This study was to evaluate the body composition and bone mineral density according to aging in adult and investigated the relationship between various parameters such as body mass index(BMI), bone mineral density(BMD), bone mineral content(BMC), lean body mass(LBM), fat mass(FM) and the value obtained from dual energy X-ray absorptiometry(DEXA). The subjects were composed of healthy adult male and female who were $20^{\sim}73$ years old and they were divided three group according to age (A group : 20-39 yrs., B group : 40-59 yrs., C group : more than 60 yrs.). The conclusion derived from statistical analysis was as follows : 1. Bone mineral content and density were significantly affected by lean body mass(relatively, R=0.85 - 0.63). 2. There was significant difference among age groups in total bone mineral density. 3. There was significant difference among age groups in bone mineral content of male and female. 4. Lean body mass is diminished according to age, but there was not significant difference among age groups. 5. Fat mass of A group in male had the highest mass and followed by C group and B group. In female groups, fat mass of A group had the highest mass and followed by B group and C group. Abdominal fat mass is increased according to age. This result suggest that aging was closely relation with loss of muscle mass, bone mineral density and bone mineral content.

  • Carbon dioxide (CO₂) and ozone (O₃) fluxes were measured over Glycine max canopy using the bowen ratio energy balance method at Fuchu - 20 km west of Tokyo, in late July and late September 1996. The CO₂, and O₃, fluxes were influenced by variation in leaf area index (LAI) during the measuring period. When LAI was more than 3.0, the CO₂ flux was found to be positively correlated with photosynthetically active radiation (PAR). The O₃, flux was always positive with an average deposition velocity for this case of about 0.5 mol m/sup -2/s/sup -1/. A positive correlation existed between the deposition velocity of O₃ and CO₂ during the period of LAI>2.0.

  • Sustainable development has been the key concept, both in economic policies and in environmental management since 1970s. In the view of systems ecology, sustainable resource use strategies are considered to be essential in achieving sustainable development. During the last three decades, the discipline of systems ecology has applied ecological energetic analysis to the evaluation of the contribution of natural environments to economic systems. ENERGY analysis of main energy flows driving the economy of humans and life support systems of a city was made including environmental energies, fuel, and inputs, all expressed as solar emjoules. Total EMERGY use of Pusan was 3.89 E22 sej/yr, about 90 percent of it was purchased sources from outside during eleven years from 1985 to 1995. EMERGY flows from the environment were less than 10 percent. EMERGY yield ratio and environmental loading ratio were 1.10 and 10.45, respectively. EMERGY sustainability index is there(ore less than one, which is indicative of highly developed consumer oriented economies. Development of a city has been achieved in the short run by the economic growth, but it can be sustained in the long run by the use of renewable resource systems.

  • This study examined the relative effects of feedback frequency and specificity of Eco-IVIS(eco in-vehicle information system) on the fuel-efficiency and workload. Eighty participants randomly assigned into four experimental groups (high frequency/specific, high frequency/global, low frequency/specific, and low frequency/global feedback) and they drove 16.4Km motorway under the each feedback condition. The dependent variable were fuel efficiency and Drive Activity Load Index which measured participants' subjective ratings of driving workload. The results showed that high frequent feedback was more effective for increasing fuel-efficiency than low frequent feedback, however, there was no significant difference of fuel-efficiency between specific and global feedback. Although, overall DALI score was comparable among four experimental conditions, visual demand score was significant higher under the high frequent feedback condition than low frequent feedback.

  • Vibration of vertically aligned-monolayered-nonuniform nanorods consist of functionally graded materials with elastic supports has not been investigated yet. To fill this gap, the problem is examined using the elasticity theories of Eringen and Gurtin-Murdoch. The geometrical and mechanical properties of the surface layer and the bulk are allowed to vary arbitrarily across the length. The nonlocal-surface energy-based governing equations are established using differential-type and integro-type formulations, and solved by employing the Galerkin method by exploiting admissible modes approach and element-free Galerkin (EFG). Through various comparison studies, the effectiveness of the EFG in capturing both nonlocal-differential/integro-based frequencies is proved. A constructive parametric study is also conducted, and the roles of nanorods' diameter, length, stiffness of both inter-rod's elastic layer and elastic supports, power-law index of both constituent materials and geometry, nonlocal and surface effects on the dominant frequencies are revealed.
