Fracture roughness of rock specimens is observed by a new confocal laser scanning microscope (CLSM; Olympus OLS1100). The wave length of laser is 488 nm, and the laser scanning is managed by a light polarization method using two galvano-meter scanner mirrors. The function of laser reflection auto-focusing enables us to measure line data fast and precisely. The system improves resolution in the light axis (namely z) direction because of the confocal optics. Using the CLSM, it is Possible to measure a specimen of the size up to $10{\;}{\times}{\;}10{\;}cm$ which is fixed on a specially designed stage. A sampling is managed in a spacing $2.5{\;}\mu\textrm{m}$ along x and y directions. The highest measurement resolution of z direction is $10{\;}\mu\textrm{m}$, which is more accurate than other methods. Core specimens of coarse and fine grained granite are provided. Fractures are artificially maneuvered by a Brazilian test method. Measurements are performed along three scan lines on each fracture surface. The measured data are represented as 2-D and 3-D digital images showing detailed features of roughness. Line profiles of the coarse granites represent more frequent change of undulation than those of the fine granite. Spectral analyses by the fast Fourier transform (FFT) are performed to characterize the roughness data quantitatively and to identify influential frequency of roughness. The FFT results suggest that a specimen loaded by large and low frequency energy tends to have high values of undulation change and large wave length of fracture roughness.

In this study, thermo-gravimetric analysis(TGA) was used to investigate the effect of urea concentration and heating rate on the ammonia($NH_3$) formation process from urea solution. A newly designed pipe nozzle was inserted through a 1,000 N${\ss}$(C)/h oil firing boiler to compare the DeNOx efficiencies between the upward and downward nozzle. This experiment reveals the effect of path which an urea droplet goes through. Urea solution showed the same TGA graph without regard to the presence of oxygen. Heating rate had a great influence on the weight loss trend. But the concentration of urea solution between 10% and 40% did not affect so much the thermal decomposition temperature. Therefore, heating rate is more important factor on the thermal decomposition of urea than the concentration of urea solution. Three nozzles located at different positions showed similar DeNOx efficiencies such as 68.1%, 71.8%, 70.8% at the same temperature. Even though urea solution was injected for the same zone, the injection direction made much difference in DeNOx efficiency. A upward nozzle showed 68.1% and downward nozzle 9.5%. This results illustrate the importance of heating rate.
A soluble polyamide containing photosensitive l,4-phenylenediacrylic acid (PDA) in main chain with biphenyl moiety was synthesized. The chemical structure of synthesized polyamide was investigated by means of $^1H$ NMR spectroscopy. The polymer was stable up to $280^{\circ}C$ and soluble in organic solvents, giving a good quality of thin films. The photoreaction of unpolarized LTV irradiated films was investigated by means of UV-vis absorption spectroscopy and FTlR spectroscopy, and liquid crystals (LCs) alignment property was examined by exposing to linearly polarized UV light (LPUVL) of 260~380 nm. The polyamide in film has excellent photoreactivity to unpolarized UV light. Direction selective photoreaction of PDA moiety in Lhe film was found to further induce nematic liquid -crystals to align along a perpendicular direction with respect to the electric vector of LPUVL, regardless of exposure energy of LPUVL. In addition, pretilt angle was measured by means of crystal rotation method. LPUVL-exposed polymer film induced the alignment of liquid-crystals (LC) with a pretilt angle of 0.2~$0.5^{\circ}$.
Reinforced concrete structures have found wide usage in land and maritime applications. However, the corrosion of reinforced concrete has been recognized as a serious problem from economic and safety standpoints. In previous studies, the corrosion behavior of the inner steel bar embedded in mortar (W/C: 0.4, 0.5) was investigated using electrochemical methods. In this study, multiple mortar test specimens (W/C: 0.6) with six different cover thicknesses were prepared and immersed in flowing seawater for five years. Subsequently, equations related to the cover thickness, period of immersion, and corrosion characteristics of the embedded steel bar were evaluated using electrochemical methods. Prior to immersion, the corrosion potentials indicated an increase with increasing cover thickness, and after five years, all corrosion potentials demonstrated a trend in the positive direction irrespective of the cover thickness. However, the relationships between the corrosion potential and cover thickness were not in complete agreement. Furthermore, after five years, all of the corrosion potentials indicated values that were nobler compared to those obtained prior to immersion, and their corrosion current densities also decreased compared to their values obtained prior to immersion. It was considered that the embedded steel bar was easily corroded because of the aggression of water, dissolved oxygen, and chloride ions; a higher W/C ratio also assisted the corrosion process. The corrosive products deposited on the surface of the steel bar for five years cast a resistance polarizing effect shifting the corrosion potential in the nobler direction. Consequently, it was considered that the W/C ratio of 0.6 showed nearly same results as those of W/C of 0.4 and 0.5. Therefore, the corrosion potential as well as various parameters such as the cover thickness, period of immersion, and W/C ratio must be considered at once for a more accurate evaluation of the corrosion property of reinforced steel exposed to marine environment for a long period.
'Saiee', which could mean between, intra- and inter-, is a crucial topic in theatre as theatre has tension between actor and audience, reality and illusion, and everyday life and extraordinary life. Especially, it is interesting that the function of 'Saiee' is connected to extension and application of drama and theatre such as educational theatre, dramatherapy and applied drama/theatre. Such works are expected to educational or therapeutic effects, thus concern and support, demand and supply of these works is getting increased. However, it is true that researches on spirit, aesthetic and direction of these works are not sufficient, compared to quantitative increase and diversity. This study will explore Boal's Theatre of the Oppressed(TO from the below), which is key theory and technique of applied drama/theatre field with viewpoint of 'Saiee' theatre to look at spirit, aesthetic and direction of this field. Saiee's energy could observe the object with distance(distance), form the relationship with that object(inter) and create new circumstance through that relationship(intra). And Boal's TO tried to Saiee's theatre by using Saiee's dynamics variously. It bases on the phenomenon of metaxis. Boal's TO believes that drama/theatre is unique nature and ability of human being, that is to say, it is based on Homo Theatrum, human plays and does theatre. Therefore, the participant of Boal's TO is extended to everyone in everyday life. This activity is not only individual work to find his/her identity but also solidarity and possibility to change society which they belong to. It is the dynamics of 'Saiee' to make this possible. Boal's TO thinks that relationship and balance between individuality and sociality is important. The way of conversation in Boal's TO includes questioning, listening and communication. Unfamiliarity or distance of 'Saiee' makes interest in other people and question about them. Questioning through theatre and concern on other beings to search for the answer (this is listening), would be new relationship(and possibility) to extend him/herself. The communication and relationship leads to possibility and ability to create another world. This is the function of 'inter-' and 'intra-' in theatre of 'Saiee'. Lastly, it is various that Boal's TO as 'Saiee' theatre uses the dynamics of 'Saiee'. The diversity of technique comes from the application to humans in every moment and every time. To apply 'Saiee's aesthetic actively, concern and research on people 'now and here' should be proceed.
Metamaterials are complexes of elements that can create properties not found in naturally occurring materials, such as changing the direction of forces, creating negative stiffness, or altering vibration and impact properties. In the case of wood pile metamaterials that are easy to manufacture and have excellent performance in reducing vibration and shock in the vertical direction, basic research on variables affecting shock transmission is needed to reduce shock. Although research on impact reduction according to geometrical factors is being conducted recently, studies on the effect of material variables on impact reduction are insufficient. In this paper, finite element analysis was carried out by variablizing the geometrical properties (lamination angle, diameter, length) and material properties (modulus of elasticity, specific gravity, Poisson's ratio) of wood pile cylinders. Through finite element analysis, the shape of the wooden pile cylinder delivering impact was confirmed, and the effect of each variable on the reduction of impact force and energy was considered through main effect diagram analysis, and frequency band analysis was performed through fast Fourier transform. proceeded In order to reduce the impact force and vibration, it was found that the variables affecting the contact area of t he cylinder have a significant effect.

Warships widely spread numerous chaffs using a blast, which form chaff clouds that create false radar cross-sections to deceive enemy radars. In this study, we established a numerical framework based on a one-way coupling of computational fluid dynamics and discrete element method to simulate the spatiotemporal distribution of chaff clouds for warships in the air. Using the framework, we investigated the effects of wind, initial chaff cartridge angle, and blast pressure on the distribution of chaff clouds. We observed three phases for the chaff cloud diffusion: radial diffusion by the explosion, omnidirectional diffusion by turbulence and collision, and gravity-induced diffusion by the difference in the fall speed. The wind moved the average position of the chaff clouds, and the diffusion due to drag force did not occur. The direction of radial diffusion by the explosion depended on the initial angle of the cartridge, and a more vertical angle led to a wider distribution of the chaffs. As the blast pressure increased, the chaff clouds spread out more widely, but the distribution difference in the direction of gravity was not significant.

A new cold neutron triple-axis spectrometer (Cold-TAS) was recently constructed at the 30 MWth research reactor, HANARO. The spectrometer, which is composed of neutron optical components and radiation shield, required a redesign of the segmented monochromator shield due to the lack of adequate support of its weight. To shed some weight, lowering the height of the segmented shield was suggested while adding more radiation shield to the top cover of the monochromator chamber. To investigate the radiological effect of such change, we performed MCNPX simulations of a few different configurations of the Cold-TAS monochromator shield and obtained neutron and photon intensities at 5 reference points just outside the shield. Reducing the 35% of the height of the segmented shield and locating lead 10 cm from the bottom of the top cover made of polyethylene was shown to perform just as well as the original configuration as radiation shield excepting gamma flux at two points. Using gamma map by MCNPX, it was checked that is distribution of gamma. Increased flux had direction to the top and it had longer distance from top of segmented shield. However, because of reducing the 35% of the height, height of dissipated gamma was lower than original geometry. Reducing the 35% of the height of the segmented shield and locating lead 10cm from the bottom of the top cover was selected. After changing geometry, radiation dose was measured by TLD for confirming tester's safety at any condition. Neutron(0.21 ${\mu}Svhr^{-1}$) and gamma(3.69 ${\mu}Svhr^{-1}$) radiation dose were satisfied standard(6.25 ${\mu}Svhr^{-1}$).

Near-inertial waves (NIW) which are primarily generated by wind can contribute to vertical mixing in the ocean. The energetic NIW can be generated by typhoon due to its strong wind and preferable wind direction changes especially on the right-hand side of the typhoon. Here we investigate the generation and distribution of NIW using the output of a real-time ocean forecasting system. Five-year model outputs during 2013-2017 are analyzed with a focus on cases of energetic NIW generation by the passage of three typhoons (Halong, Goni, and Chaba) over the East Sea. Calculations of wind energy input (${\bar{W}}_I$), and horizontal kinetic energy in the mixed layer (${\bar{HKE}}_{MLD}$) reveal that the spatial distribution of ${\bar{HKE}}_{MLD}$, which is strengthened at the right-hand side of typhoon tracks, is closely related with ${\bar{W}}_I$. Horizontal kinetic energy in the deep layer (${\bar{HKE}}_{DEEP}$) shows patch-shaped distribution mainly located at the southern side of the East Sea. Spatial distribution of ${\bar{HKE}}_{DEEP}$ shows a close relationship with negative relative vorticity regions caused by warm eddies in the upper layer. Monthly-mean ${\bar{HKE}}_{MLD}$ and ${\bar{HKE}}_{DEEP}$ during a typhoon passing over the East Sea shows about 2.5-5.7 times and 1.2-1.6 times larger values than those during summer with no typhoons, respectively. In addition, their magnitudes are respectively about 0.4-1.0 and 0.8-1.0 times from those during winter, suggesting that the typhoon-induced NIW can provide a significant energy to enhance vertical mixing at both the mixed and deep layers during summer.
Deep sea water is found more than 200 m under the surface. As no sunlight reaches, no photosynthesis takes place, and it has very little organic matter or bacteria. In addition, deep sea water maintains a consistently low temperature throughout the year, and it does not mix with the water found closer to the surface, which means that its cleanliness is preserved. It is a long-term mature sea water resource that is rich in minerals. This paper examined the physical characteristics and the uses of deep sea water, a subject that has been attracting a great deal of public attention recently, together with the current status of domestic research into it and the direction of research in the USA and Japan, focusing on the existing literature. The aim of this paper was to provide are source to researchers in the field. Since the 1970s, scientists around the world have recognized the importance of deep sea water, and have been conducting research into it. In the USA, deep sea water has been researched with the view of its application to cooling, alternative energy, farming, and the development of new materials. In Japan, about 10 local self-governing bodies are currently promoting research and business relating to deep sea water, which has resulted in a number of products that have been released to the market. In Korea, the ministry of land transport and marine affairs has been studying deep sea water since 2000, and full-scale national R&D projects have been performed by 24 organizations, including KORDI, through industrial/academic cooperation. Large companies are participating in deep sea water research projects in several ways. A study of data foundusing NDSL relating to domestic studies of deep sea water found 50 theses, 177 domestic patents, 6 analyses, 2 reports, and 2 etc. in other areas.
