The vacuum drying process for drying of paper in current transformers was modeled with an aim to develop an understanding of the drying mechanism involved and also to predict the water collection rates. A molecular as well as macroscopic approach was adopted for the prediction of drying rate. Ficks law of diffusion was adopted for the prediction of drying rates at macroscopic levels. A steady state and dynamic mass transfer simulation was performed. The bulk diffusion coefficient was calculated using weight loss experiments. The accuracy of the solution was a strong function of the relation developed to determine the equilibrium moisture content. The actually observed diffusion constant was also important to predict the plant water removal rate. Thermo gravimetric studies helped in calculating the diffusion constant. In addition, simulation studies revealed the formation of perpetual moisture traps (loops) inside the CT. These loops can only be broken by changing the temperature or pressure of the system. The change in temperature or pressure changes the kinetic or potential energy of the effusing vapor resulting in breaking of the loop. The cycle was developed based on this mechanism. Additionally, simulation studies also revealed that the actual mechanism of moisture diffusion in CT's is by surface jumps initiated by surface diffusion balanced against the surrounding pressure. Every subsequent step in the cycle was to break such loops. The effect of change in drying time on the electrical properties of the insulation was also assessed. The measurement of capacitance at the rated voltage and one third of the rated voltage demonstrated that the capacitance change is within the acceptance limit. Hence, the new cycle does not affect the electrical performance of the CT.
The spheroidization of cold rolled lamellar pearlite in annealing at the temperatures between 600 and $700^{\circ}C$ has been studied by quantitative micrography. It was foud that the spheroidization proceeded as two stageh. The first stage was the stage of relieving the stored energy by cold work, the second was the stage of reducing the interface energy between ferrite and cementite. The spheroidization rate combining the spheroidization rate of each stages is described by the following equation : $$d(1/S)/dt=k_3{\cdot}D/_{(1/s)}\{{\sigma}V/_{(1/s)}+k_4{\cdot}{\exp}(-bt)\}$$ Where, S is the total area of the interface between ferrite and cementite per unit volume, D is the diffusion coefficient, ${\sigma}$ is the boundary energy, V is the volume fraction of the cementite, and $k_3$, $k_4$, b are constants.

Salt wedge into the river from the sea or fresh water flume (fresh wedge) in the ocean from the sea has density current characteristics. However, when temperature and salinity simultaneously determine the density of wedges, one of salinity and temperature can distributed in the reversed profiles against gravity, even though the density profile is stable. In this case, the double diffusive process is critical in determining mixing rate. The present work studies relative contribution of shear driven mechanical mixing component and double diffusive layering process, when warm salty denser water is introduced into the cold fresh lighter water column. Laboratory experiment releases warm salty denser water into cold fresh lighter water controlling discharge amount to achieve the steady state of density current. When longitudinal density rate becomes 15, the released amount ratio of salt and heat changes sharply and in the releasing point, vigorous mixing occurs with increase of discharged amount due to double diffusion. Double diffusion distabilizes gravitational stability and enhances the mixing rate up to $6{\times}10$ times at the lower density ratio comparing to the higher density ratio.

In this study, the effect of two types of aggregates (fly ash aggregate and shale aggregate) on the density, strength, and durability of preplaced lightweight aggregate concrete (PLWAC) was studied. The results showed that the 7 - 28 days strength of concrete prepared with fly ash aggregates (high water absorption rate) significantly increased, which could attribute to the long-term water release of fly ash aggregates by the refined pore structure. In contrast, the strength increase of concrete prepared with shale aggregates (low water absorption rate) is not apparent. Although PLWAC prepared with fly ash aggregates has a lower density and higher strength (56.8 MPa @ 1600 kg/m3), the chloride diffusion coefficient is relatively high, which could attribute to the diffusion paths established by connected porous aggregates and the negative over-curing effect. Compared to the control group, the partial replacement of fly ash aggregates (30%) with asphalt emulsion (20% solid content) coated aggregates can reduce the chloride diffusion coefficient of concrete by 53.6% while increasing the peak load obtained in a three-point bending test by 107.3%, fracture energy by 30.3% and characteristic length by 103.5%. The improvement in concrete performance could be attributed to the reduction in the water absorption rate of aggregates and increased energy absorption by polymer during crack propagation.

A boron doping process using a boron tri-bromide ($BBr_3$) as a boron source was applied to form a $p^+$ emitter layer on an n-type mono-crystalline CZ substrate. Nitrogen ($N_2$) gas as an additive of the diffusion process was varied in order to study the variations in sheet resistance and the uniformity of doped layer. The flow rate of $N_2$ gas flow was changed in the range 3 slm~10 slm. The sheet resistance uniformity however was found to be variable with the variation of the $N_2$ flow rate. The optimal flow rate for $N_2$ gas was found to be 4 slm, resulting in a sheet resistance value of $50{\Omega}/sq$ and having a uniformity of less than 10%. The process temperature was also varied in order to study its influence on the sheet resistance and minority carrier lifetimes. A higher lifetime value of $1727.72{\mu}s$ was achieved for the emitter having $51.74{\Omega}/sq$ sheet resistances. The thickness of the boron rich layer (BRL) was found to increase with the increase in the process temperature and a decrease in the sheet resistance was observed with the increase in the process temperature. Furthermore, a passivated emitter solar cell (PESC) type solar cell structure comprised of a boron doped emitter and phosphorus doped back surface field (BSF) having Ni/Cu contacts yielding 15.32% efficiency is fabricated.

This paper investigate the effects of the variations of engine operation condition in the flame kernel formation and developmnet . A model for calculating the initial kernel development in spark ignition engines is formualted. It considered input of electrical energy, combustion energy release and heat transfer to the spark plyg, cylinder head, and unburned mixture. The model also takes into accounts strain rate of initial kernel and residual gas fraction. The breakdown process and the subsequent electrical power input initially control the kernel growth while intermediate growth is mainly dominated by diffusion or conduction. Then, the flame propagates by the chemical energy and turbulent flame expansion. Flame kernel development also influenced by engine operating conditions, for example, EGR rate, air-fuel ration and intake manifold pressure.
As a par of a project related to the development of the design algorithm of a compact heat exchanger for the application of the electronic home appliances, the effect of the discreteness of the airflow boundary generated on the cooling fin surface on the heat transfer and pressure drop characteristics of the heat exchanger was studied numerically. In general, there are two critical design parameters seriously considered in the design of the heat exchanger; heat transfer rate(Q) and pressure drop coefficient(C/sub p/). Even though the higher heat transfer rate with lower pressure drop characteristics is required in a design of the heat exchanger, it is not an easy job to satisfy both conditions at the same time because these two parameters are phenomenally inversely proportional. To control the boundary layer thickness and its length along the streamline, the surface of the flat fin was modified to accelerate the heat transfer rate on the fin surface. To understand the effect of the discreted fin size(S/sub w/) and its location(S/sub h/) on the performance of the heat exchanger in the airflow field, the flat fin was modified as shown in Fig. 1. From this study, it was found that the smaller and more number of slits on the fin surface showed the higher energy diffusion rate. It means that the discreteness of the boundary layer is quite important on the heat transfer rate of the heat exchanger. On the other hand, if the fin surface configuration is very complex than needed, higher static pressure drop occurs than required in a system and it may be a reason of the induced aerodynamic noise in the heat exchanger.

This study is an analysis of the turbulent diffusion flame with swirl flow and the calculated results are compared with experimental data in case of various swirl numbers and air-fuel rations. The mathematical model is restricted to single-phase, diffusion controlled combustion with swirl flow. Values of local flow properties were obtained by solving appropriate differential equation for continuity, momentum, stagnation enthalpy, concentration, turbulence energy, dissipation rate of turbulence energy, and the mean square of concentration fluctuation. The method is proposed for calculating the local probability of chemical reaction based on the use of the probability density function for the mixture fraction.
Quantitative evaluation of photocatalytic activity of oxide nanoparticles in aqueous solution is quite challenging in that the kinetic reaction rate is determined by a complicated interplay among various limiting factors such as light scattering and absorption, diffusion and adsorption of reactants in condensed liquid phase, photoexcited charge separation and recombination rate, and the exact nature of active sites determined by detailed morphology and crystallinity of nanocrystals. Here, we present our simple experimental results showing that the kinetic regime of a typical photocatalytic degradation experiment over UV-irradiated $TiO_2$ nanoparticles in aqueous solution is in that dominated by the photoactivity of $TiO_2$ and its concentration. This result lays a firm ground of using the measured kinetic reaction rate in evaluating photocatalytic efficiency of oxide nanocrystals under evaluation.

The objectives of this paper are to study the characteristics of heat transfer and pressure drop of the zigzag channel PCHE using diffusion bonding technology by numerical analysis. PCHE of five types are designed, which are zigzag channel angle 180$^{\circ}$, 160$^{\circ}$, 140$^{\circ}$, 120$^{\circ}$ and 100$^{\circ}$. The zigzag PCHE was numerically investigated for Reynolds number in a range of 150$\sim$800. The temperatures of the hot side were performed at 80$^{\circ}$ while that of the cold side was conducted at 20$^{\circ}C$. The results show that the performance of heat transfer rate for zigzag channel 100$^{\circ}$ increases about 11.5% compared to that of zigzag channel 180$^{\circ}$. On the other hand, the performance of pressure drop for zigzag channel 100$^{\circ}$ is remarkably higher than that of zigzag channel 180$^{\circ}$, about 2.4 times.
