Smart Tourism Design: A Semiotic Affordances Approach

  • This paper presents a conceptual approach to Smart Tourism Design based on semiotic affordances theory. This conceptual approach repositions smart tourism from a techno-centric perspective that frames a seamless connection between the device and its software, to a more human-centric perspective that favors the user's needs, desires as perceived through the senses. An updated Smart Tourism Design emphasizes the aesthetic dimension of smart tourism that presents the objects of the travel experience as destination specific rather than universal, through representations as digital artifacts. This theory is based on an empirical and objective understanding of representations and how they can be identified as useful in the digital augmentation of travel experiences. Using Peirce's sign systems and Gibson's theory of affordances, smart tourism can transcend a prefabricated device-oriented experience to a closer dynamic and direct interaction between the user and the travel destination. Researchers and developers can use semiotics as a structural approach to recognizing objects as sign-types, and they can use affordances to better identify the immediacy of digital artifacts and purpose-driven by users' spontaneous and immediate motives.

  • This paper describes the process planning system of a computer-aided design of blanking and piercing for irregularly shaped sheet metal products. An approach to the system is based on knowledge-based rules. The process planning system is designed by considering several factors, such as the complexity of blank geometry, production feasibility of products, and punch profile complexity. Therefore this system which was implemented production feasibility check and strip layout module can carry out a process planning considering a production feasibility area of both internal and external features, a dimension of blanked hole, a coner and a fillet radius for irregualrly shaped sheet metal products and generate the strip layout in graphic froms. Knowledges for process planning are extracted from plasticity theories, handbooks, relevant references and empirical know- hows of experts in blanking companies. This provides powerful capabilities for process planning system of irregularly shaped sheet metal products.

A Multidimensional View of SNS Usage: Conceptualization and Validation

  • Social networking sites (SNSs) have become an essential part of people's lives. It is thus crucial to understand how individuals use these platforms. Previous literature has divided usage into numerous activities and then grouped them into dimensions to avoid excessive granularity. However, these categories have not been derived from a uniform theoretical background; consequently, these dimensions are dispersed, overlapping, and disconnected from each other. This study argues that "SNS usage" is a complex phenomenon consisting of multiple activities that can be grouped into dimensions under the umbrella of communication theories and these dimensions are related to each other in a particular multi-dimensional architecture. "SNS usage" is conceptualized as a third-order construct formed by "producing," "consuming," and "communicating." "Producing," in turn, is proposed as a second-order construct manifested by "commenting," "general information sharing," and "self-disclosure." The proposed model was assessed with data collected from 414 USA adult users and PLS-SEM technique. The results show empirical support for the theorized model. SNS providers now have this architecture that clarifies the role of each dimension of use, which will allow them to design effective strategies to encourage the use of these networks.

Geometric Optimization Algorithm for Path Loss Model of Riparian Zone IoT Networks Based on Federated Learning Framework

  • In the field of environmental sensing, it is necessary to develop radio planning techniques for the next generation Internet of Things (IoT) networks over mixed terrains. Such techniques are needed for smart remote monitoring of utility supplies, with links situated close to but out of range of cellular networks. In this paper, a three-dimension (3-D) geometric optimization algorithm is proposed, considering the positions of edge IoT devices and antenna coupling factors. Firstly, a multi-level single linkage (MLSL) iteration method, based on geometric objectives, is derived to evaluate the data rates over ISM 915 MHz channels, utilizing optimized power-distance profiles of continuous waves. Subsequently, a federated learning (FL) data selection algorithm is designed based on the 3-D geometric positions. Finally, a measurement example is taken in a meadow biome of the Mexican Colima district, which is prone to fluvial floods. The empirical path loss model has been enhanced, demonstrating the accuracy of the proposed optimization algorithm as well as the possibility of further prediction work.

부산 모바일 앱 산업 분야의 1인 창조기업 성공요인에 관한 실증연구 (An Empirical Research on Success Factors of One-person Creating Company of Mobile App Industry in the Busan Region)

  • 외환위기 이후 심각한 청년실업률과 경제 양극화 문제를 해결하고 스마트 신경제 시대를 대비하기 위하여 중앙정부 및 지방자치단체에서 모바일 앱 산업 분야의 1인 창조기업을 지원 육성하는 다양한 정책이 추진되고 있다. 이러한 지원 정책이 모바일 앱 1인 창조기업의 성공적인 창업에 기여할 수 있도록 부산지역 모바일 앱 1인 창조기업을 대상으로 성공요인에 대한 실증조사를 수행하고 이를 통해 보다 효과적이고 효율적인 지원 방안을 모색하고자 본 연구를 수행하였다. 이 연구에서는 문헌 고찰을 통해 1인 창조기업의 성공요인에 관한 세 개의 연구가설을 도출하고, 51개의 부산지역 모바일 앱 1인 창조기업의 실증자료를 기반으로 연구한 결과 기업의 창업기간이 오래되고, 조직원의 수가 많으며, 외부 자금을 많이 유치하고, 창업가가 경영 교육을 많이 받을수록 기업의 경영성과가 높아지는 경향을 발견할 수 있었다. 이 연구를 통해 다음과 같은 정책적 함의를 얻을 수 있다. 첫째, 1인 창조기업의 자금 조달을 지원하기 위한 정부 자금 지원과 투자유치 자금 유치에 보다 많은 관심이 필요하다. 둘째, 인적 자원 개발을 위해 기술과 마케팅의 교육보다 창업자가 지속적으로 경영관련 교육을 받을 수 있도록 하는 정책이 필요하다. 향후, 연구대상 기업을 전국으로 확장하여 국가적인 차원의 모바일 앱 산업 분야에 대한 정책을 수립하고, 이를 기반으로 전 산업 분야로 확대할 수 있을 것이다.

Relationship between Brand Personality and the Personality of Consumers, and its Application to Corporate Branding Strategy

  • Many consumers enjoy the challenge of purchasing a brand that matches well with their own values and personalities (for example, Ko et al., 2008; Ko et al., 2006). Therefore, the personalities of consumers can impact on the final selection of a brand and its brand personality in two ways: first, the consumers may incline to purchase a brand or a product that reflects their own personalities; second, consumers tend to choose a company that has similar brand personalities to those brands that are being promoted. Therefore, the objectives of this study are following: 1. Is there any empirical relationship between a consumer's personality and the personality of a brand that he or she chooses? 2. Can a corporate brand be differentiated by the brand personality? In short, consumers are more likely to hold favorable attitudes towards those brands that match their own personality and will most probably purchase those brands matching well with their personality. For example, Matzler et al. (2006) found that extraversion and openness were positively related to hedonic product value; and that the personality traits directly (openness) and indirectly (extraversion, via hedonic value) influenced brand effects, which in turn droved attitudinal and purchase loyalty. Based on the above discussion, the following hypotheses are proposed: Hypothesis 1: the personality of a consumer is related to the brand personality of a product/corporate that he/she purchases. Kuksov (2007) and Wernerfelt (1990) argued that brands as a symbolic language allowed consumers to communicate their types to each other and postulated that consumers had a certain value of communicating their types to each other. Therefore, how brand meanings are established, and how a firm communicate with consumers about the meanings of the brand are interesting topics for research (for example, Escalas and Bettman, 2005; McCracken, 1989; Moon, 2007). Hence, the following hypothesis is proposed: Hypothesis 2: A corporate brand identity is differentiated by the brand personality. And there are significant differences among companies. A questionnaire was developed for collecting empirical measures of the Big-Five personality traits and brand personality variables. A survey was conducted to the online access panel members through the Internet during December 2007 in Korea. In total, 500 respondents completed the questionnaire, and considered as useable. Personality constructs were measured using the Five-factor Inventory (NEO-FFI) scale and a total of 30 items were actually utilized. Brand personality was measured using the five-dimension scale developed by Aaker (1997). A total of 17 items were actually utilized. The seven-point Likert-type scale was the format of responses, for example, from 1 indicating strongly disagreed to 7 for strongly agreed. The Analysis of Moment Structures (AMOS) was used for an empirical testing of the model, and the Maximum Likelihood Estimation (MLE) was applied to estimate numerical values for the components in the model. To diagnose the presence of distribution problems in the data and to gauge their effects on the parameter estimates, bootstapping method was used. The results of the hypothesis-1 test empirically show that there exit certain causality relationship between a consumer's personality and the brand personality of the consumer's choice. Thus, the consumer's personality has an impact on consumer's final selection of a brand that has a brand personality matches well with their own personalities. In other words, the consumers are inclined to purchase a brand that reflects their own personalities and tend to choose a company that has similar brand personalities to those of the brand being promoted. The results of this study further suggest that certain dimensions of the brand personality cause consumers to have preference to certain (corporate) brands. For example, the conscientiousness, neuroticism, and extraversion of the consumer personality have positively related to a selection of "ruggedness" characteristics of the brand personality. Consumers who possess that personality dimension seek for matching with certain brand personality dimensions. Results of the hypothesis-2 test show that the average "ruggedness" attributes of the brand personality differ significantly among Korean automobile manufacturers. However, the result of ANOVA also indicates that there are no significant differences in the mean values among manufacturers for the "sophistication," "excitement," "competence" and "sincerity" attributes of the corporate brand personality. The tight link between what a firm is and its corporate brand means that there is far less room for marketing communications than there is with products and brands. Consequently, successful corporate brand strategies must position the organization within the boundaries of what is acceptable, while at the same time differentiating the organization from its competitors.

인물의 매력에 관련된 아름다움의 차원 (The Beauty Dimensions Related to Human Attractiveness)

  • 대부분의 경영분석가들은 뷰티산업이 미래의 주요산업의 하나가 될 것이라고 예견하고 있다. 뷰티산업은 뷰티에 관련된 서비스와 상품을 포함하고 있는데, 이 시장에서의 경쟁은 더욱 치열해지고 있다. 뷰티 서비스와 뷰티 상품을 마케팅하기 위해서는 뷰티가 측정될 수 있어야 하지만, 실제적으로 뷰티를 측정할 수 있는 수단은 사실상 개발되어 있지 않다. 본 연구에서는 Langmeyer and Shank(1994)의 연구를 바탕으로 인물의 매력을 단일의 차원이 아닌 다차원으로 규명하고자 하였다. 총 258명의 대학생 응답자를 대상으로 인물의 매력에 관련된 뷰티의 차원에 관련된 설문을 실시했고, 이를 바탕으로 인물의 매력에 관련된 뷰티의 차원을 도출하고, 뷰티 측정에 대한 관리적 시사점을 제시하였다. 본 연구에서는 수행된 정량적 분석에 기초하여 최종적으로 인물 매력에 관련된 4가지 뷰티 차원을 도출하였는데, 2개 차원은 인물의 내면의 아름다움에 관련된 것(역동적 성격, 배려)이었고, 나머지 2개 차원은 인물의 외면의 아름다움에 관련된 것(형상, 스타일)이었다. 또한 본 연구에서는 추가적으로 응답자 특성에 따라 아름다움 인식에 차이가 있는지 분석하였다. 응답자 특성으로는 성별, 외적 아름다움의 인식 차이, 자신의 외모 만족도가 고려되었다. 분석결과는 자신의 외모 만족도와 아름다움의 인식 가치가 본 연구에서 도출된 아름다움 차원에 있어서 아름다움 인식에 영향을 미친다는 것을 보여주고 있다: 1)자신의 외모 만족도가 높은 경우 전반적으로 외모차원과 심성차원의 아름다움을 모두 높게 평가하는 것으로 나타났다, 2)아름다움의 인식 가치가 높은 경우 외면의 아름다움 차원을 내면의 아름다움 차원보다 상대적으로 더 긍정적으로 평가하는 것으로 나타났다.

농촌개발사업에서 차별화가 갖는 의미와 주민평가에 주는 함의 (The Meaning of Differentiation in Rural Development Projects and Its Implications on Resident Assessment)

  • In empirical studies on rural development projects, differentiation tends to be considered a strategy aimed at increasing the number of visitors. Rural development projects include the improvement of living environment, and the discussion about project goals and evaluation of project results are often focused on the aspect of rural tourism. Thus, subjective benefits of such projects for residents are omitted. This study examines the meaning of differentiation from the perspective of residents and explores the validity of the number of visitors and the possibility of reflecting residents' subjective score as evaluation indicators for a project. To achieve such an objective, this study uses survey data collected from 153 people in 38 comprehensive development projects in areas of Eup and Myeon, Korea. The results of this study show that differentiation is viewed as a by-product of positive improvement from a rural development project, from the perspective of residents. The effects of rural development are classified into two dimensions: socioeconomic effects and living environmental effects. Landscape improvement is included in the dimension of living environmental effects and an increase in the number of visitors is included in the dimension of socioeconomic effects. As such, they are confirmed to be the factors that determine the level of differentiation. For example, the increase in the number of visitors is confirmed to be a valid indicator of project success, in which two-dimensional characters are reflected. The level of differentiation evaluated by residents is a result of the workings of the above two factors. Unlike in previous studies, the possibility of evaluation based on the perception of residents is confirmed in the evaluation of results. When the level of differentiation is interpreted as the direct result of a project, the number of visitors has an impact on socioeconomic effects, and the project content of landscape improvement has an impact on living environmental effects. The goal of policy and residents is the same in terms of the effort residents may make in maximizing results of a project by themselves; thus, the government's goal is achieved even when a project is carried out under the autonomy of residents. Ultimately, the government should focus on providing conditions in which active citizen participation can not only occur but help to establish a policy direction, which subsequently strengthens the substantial rights of residents.

E-Trust의 선행요인과 결과요인 간의 구조적 관계에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Antecedents and Outcomes of E-Trust)

  • 많은 온라인 사용자들은 아직도 인터넷을 통해 구매하는 것을 꺼려하는 경향이 있다. 인터넷 쇼핑몰을 통한 구매행위는 해당 사이트에 의해 제시되는 정보에 상당부분 의존할 수밖에 없으며 개인 정보의 누출과 관련한 보안과 결제 안전성에 대한 문제의 심각성이 커지고 있기 때문이다. 이에 따라 인터넷 쇼핑몰들은 치열해지는 경쟁 환경에서 살아남기 위해 고객의 신뢰를 향상시키고 장기적 거래관계를 강화 시킴으로써 경쟁우위를 확보하는 것이 필수요건이 되고 있다. 이에 본 연구는 인터넷 쇼핑몰의 신뢰에 영향을 미치는 선행요인(지각된 품질, 지각된 명성, 지각된 가치)과 전반적 신뢰와의 관계, 그리고 전반적 신뢰와 결과요인(지각된 위험, 사이트 의존의사, 사이트 재방문)과의 관계에 초점을 두었으며 선행요인들간의 인과적 관계 및 결과요인들 간의 인과적 관계를 실증분석하여 신뢰의 선행요인과 결과요인들 간의 구조적 관계를 살펴보았다. 인터넷 쇼핑몰 이용자를 대상으로 설문을 진행하였으며 신뢰성과 타당성 분석 및 구조방정식 모델분석을 통해 나온 결과률 요약하면 다음과 같다. 인터넷 쇼핑몰의 지각된 명성과 지각된 품질은 신뢰에 모두 긍정적인 영향을 주는 중요한 요인으로 나타났다. 이와 더불어 신뢰는 지각된 위험에 매우 유의한 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났으며 지각된 위힘을 거치지 않고도 사이트 재방문과 의존의사에 중요한 영향을 미치는 것으로 실증분석 결과 나타났다. 마지막으로 신뢰와 마찬가지로 지각된 위험은 사이트 재방문에 유의한 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다.

혁신의 제도적 접근: 지역혁신체제와 혁신클러스터의 지식파급효과 -선행연구의 검토와 새로운 쟁점- (Institutional Approach to Innovation: the Knowledge Spillovers in Regional Innovation System and Innovative Cluster - Review and New Issue of Antecedent Research -)

  • 세방화시대에 모든 국가의 공통현상은 국가와 지역차원에서 지식혁신과 성장이 중요한 화두로 등장하여 이론과 실제에서 연구되고 있다. 선진국에서 지역발전의 성공사례에서는 지역혁신체제와 클러스터가 혁신을 주도하고 있다. 이에 지역혁신체제의 축소모형인 혁신클러스터에서의 지식파급효과가 기업혁신과 지역성장을 유도하는지를 분석하는 것은 중요하다. 본 연구는 혁신지리학의 지역혁신체제와 혁신클러스터에서의 지식파급효과에 대한 이론적 논의와 경험적 연구흐름을 비판적으로 검토한 후, 보다 심화된 연구를 위한 연구쟁점을 제시한 것이다. 분석결과, 선행연구들은 지식파급효과가 특정한 지리적 근접성의 지식집약산업에서 존재한다고 인식하고 지역혁신을 위해서는 순수지식 파급효과가 중요하다고 한다. 그러나 선행연구의 한계로는 제한된 지리적 공간과 기술영역, 소수의 분석변수 그리고 렌트파급효과무시 등이 있다. 따라서 지식파급효과와 관련한 새로운 연구쟁점으로는 지리적 차원(지역과 글로벌), 기술적 차원(다양한 지식기반산업), 분석변수의 다양화(종전의 변수 외에 시간이나 사회자본), 개념화(무단사용과 기술시장) 등을 들 수 있다.
