  • ● The current world is suffering abnormal climate caused by global warming. The main cause of global warming is greenhouse gas such as carbon dioxide. The carbon labeling system and carbon traceability system being pushed ahead in the agricultural sector is the policy for responding to climate change to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. To make this policy more effective and enhanced, the amount of carbon emissions should be calculated based on the kind of crops or the various businesses in the agricultural sector. Therefore, in order to estimate the accurate amount of carbon emissions, it is necessary to establish carbon dioxide emission intensity of various agricultural materials added onto the agriculture, and to calculate the amount of carbon dioxide emission for each crop according to agricultural production. The purpose of this study is to establish the amount of emission, emission per agricultural materials, of agricultural materials being added for crop production as a basic step, and emission intensity which can be used in the future market in order to estimate accurate amount of carbon emission in all the policies being promoted in the agricultural sector. Therefore, in this study, in order to build LCI D/B about organic fertilizers among many organic materials added onto the organic agriculture sector, one leading company in organic fertilizer production was selected and LCA was conducted for this leading company. We had to build the intensity and integrated average concept of intensity upon the two cases once production farmers for their own consumption and farms besides organic fertilizer company were categorized even if it's little amount. But in this study, individually produced organic fertilizers were excluded. Calculated results are following. Carbon emission of mixed expeller cake fertilizer in organic fertilizer was 1,106,966.89kg-$CO^2$ and emission intensity was 0.01606kg-$CO^2$, respectively. Total emission of mixed organic fertilizers was 241,523.2kg-$CO^2$ and emission intensity was 0.01705kg-$CO^2$. And total emission of organic compound fertilizers was 94,592.66kg-$CO^2$ and emission intensity was 0.01769kg-$CO^2$, respectively.

  • Recent findings have revealed that black carbon is one of the substantial materials affecting climate change along with greenhouse gases. Usually, black carbon is generated by incomplete combustion of biomass and deposited on snow and ice surface, resulting in increasing adsorption of radiant energy and accelerating ice melting. However, it is still questionable what the emission characteristics of black carbons from biomass combustion is. We investigated the emission characteristics of black carbon generated from a wood stove in this study. We found that the emission of black carbon was highly dependent upon combustion temperature and the amount of combustion air supplied. The emission factors were 1.01 g-BC/kg-Oak for fireplace wood burning under incomplete combustion, 0.37 g-BC/kg-Oak for fireplace wood burning under complete combustion and 0.29 g-BC/kg-Oak for small wood-stove burning.

  • EL (electro-luminescent) device as a light source has an advantage in embodying large area with great flexibility. On nickel foil as an electrode and backplane, we demonstrated a white EL flexible light source with blue phosphor layer combined with color change layer. A correlation between color change layer and color coordination was analyzed by Gaussian method, and then the color coordinate was controlled near to (0.33, 0.33) of pure white light.

  • For a comprehensive understanding of human impact on a change of the global climate, it is necessary to obtain reliable information on man-induced fluxes of greenhouse gases (GHGs) into the atmosphere. Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) guidelines (IPCC 1996, IPCC 2000, IPCC2006) provide the methods and procedures of estimating the national GHG emission inventories. Particularly, IPCC 2006 contains new chapter of key conceptions uncertainties, including the types of uncertainties and assessment methods of uncertainties in GHG emission inventories. In this paper, a compact and clear survey on volume 1 of IPCC 2006, which contains the general information on inventory compilation, uncertainty and guidance on the choice of methods, and QC/QA, is given with emphasis on uncertainty analysis.

  • This study was conducted to predict greenhouse gas (GHG) emission from paddy by future climate change scenario in Korea. Chuncheon city in Kangwon province were selected as study area. A1B Special Report on Emission Scenario (SRES) of the IPCC (Intergovernmental panel on climate change) was used to assess the future potential climate change. The rainfall and temperature was projected to increase by 8.4 % and 1.9 % (2040s), 35.9 % and 27.0 % (2060s), 19.2 % and 30.8 % (2090s), respectively, compare to the 2010s value. Under the climate change, Denitrification-Decomposition (DNDC) predicted an increase in $N_2O$, $CO_2$ and $CH_4$ emissions from paddy. The simulations resulted in annual net emissions of 0.4~2.4, 500.5~734.5 and 29.4~160.4 kg/ha/year of $N_2O-N$, $CH_4-C$ and $CO_2-C$, respectively, with a cumulated global warming potential (GWP) of $14.5{\sim}21.7t{\cdot}CO_2/ha/year$ were affected by rainfall, temperature, manure amendment and fertilizer amount. The simulation results suggested that implementation of manure amendment or reduction of water consumption instead of increased fertilizer application rates would more efficiently mitigate GHG emissions.

  • To assess the impact of climate change on water quality in an impounded river basin, this study estimated future air temperature and rainfall in the years of 2020, 2050 and 2080 by statistically downscaling the simulation results from two GCM models combined with two emission scenarios (A2 and B1). Both scenarios were selected from the Special Report on Emission Scenarios (SRES) suggested by IPCC. The A2 scenario represents an extreme condition whereas the B1 scenario represents a clean and energy efficient condition which is similar to that of study basin. With the results of estimated climate factors and land use data, the discharge and the concentrations of BOD, TN and TP in the Andong dam basins were simulated using the SWAT model. The change in BOD concentration for the B1 emission scenario was greater than the A2 scenario in the annual increase range and the pollution level. The concentration of TN was decreased during March? June which is drought period and increased again afterward. In contrast to TN, the concentration of TP was generally decreased. The change in TP concentration was greater for the B1 scenario than the A2 scenario.

  • The intensified droughts under climate change are expected to threaten stable water resource availability. Droughts exceeding the magnitude of historical variability could occur increasingly frequently under future climate conditions. It is crucial to understand how drought will evolve over time because the assumption of hydrological stationarity of the past decades would be inappropriate for future water resources management. However, the timing of the emergence of unprecedented drought conditions under climate change has rarely been examined. Here, using multimodel hydrological simulations, we investigate the changes in the frequency of hydrological drought (defined as abnormally low river discharge) under high and low greenhouse gas concentration scenarios and with existing water resources management and estimate the timing of the first emergence of unprecedented regional drought conditions that persist for over several consecutive years. This new metric enables a new quantification of the urgency of adaptation and mitigation with regard to drought under climate change. The times are detected for several sub-continental-scale regions, and three regions, namely, southwestern South America, Mediterranean Europe, and northern Africa, exhibit particularly robust and earlier critical times under the high-emission scenario. These three regions are expected to confront unprecedented conditions within the next 30 years with a high likelihood, regardless of the emission scenarios. In addition, the results obtained herein demonstrate the benefits of the lower-emission pathway in reducing the likelihood of emergence. The Paris Agreement goals are shown to be effective in reducing the likelihood to the unlikely level in most regions. Nevertheless, appropriate and prior adaptation measures are considered indispensable to when facing unprecedented drought conditions. The results of this study underscore the importance of improving drought preparedness within the considered time horizons.

  • Greenhouse-gas emission factors are widely used to estimate emissions arising from a defined unit of a specific activity. Such estimates are used both for international reporting to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and for a myriad of national and subnational reporting purposes. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) provides a methodology for national and sub-national estimation of known greenhouse gas emissions including $N_2O$ for each sector from which the emissions arise. The objective of this study was to develop an emission factor to estimate the direct $N_2O$ emission from an agricultural field cultivated with Chinese cabbage during spring season in 2010-2012. An estimated emission factor of $N_2O$ calculated over three years from field experiment accounting for cumulative $N_2O$ emission, nitrogen fertilization rate, and background $N_2O$ emission was $0.0056{\pm}0.00254$ (95% CI) Kg $N_2O-N/kg$ N. More extensive studies are needed to develop $N_2O$ emission factors for other upland crops in various regions of Korea because $N_2O$ emission is influenced by many factors including climate characteristics, soil properties agricultural practices and crop species.

  • Field emission of GaN and GaP nanowires, synthesized by thermal chemical vapor deposition, and their emission stabilities under oxygen and argon environments were investigated. The field emission current of GaN nanowires was seriously deteriorated under oxygen environment, while that of GaP was not. Both wires did not show any noticeable change under argon environment. The existence of oxide outer shell layers in the GaP nanowires was proposed to be a main reason for this emission stability behavior. Field emission energy distributions of electrons from these nanowires revealed that field emission mechanism of the semiconductor nanowires were different from that of carbon nanotubes.

  • Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) have been studied as an ideal material for field emitters due to the high aspect ratio, excellent electrical property and good mechanical strength. There were many reports on CNT emitters fabricated on rigid substrates, but rare reports about CNT flexible field emitters. Recently, we considered that CNTs can be a good candidate for a flexible field emitter material because of their excellent Young's modulus and elasticity, which could not be achieved with metal tips or semiconducting nanowire tips. In this work, we demonstrated the CNT flexible field emitters fabricated by a simple method and studied the field emission properties of the CNT flexible field emitters under various bending conditions. The flexible field emitters showed stable and uniform emission characteristics. Especially, there is no remarkable change of the field emission properties at the CNT flexible field emitters according to the bending conditions. The CNT flexible field emitters also exhibited a good field emission performance like the low turn-on field and high emission current. Therefore, we suggest that the CNT flexible emitters can be used in many practical applications under different bending conditions.
