A numerical skill for effective treatment of inclined boundaries in a finite element method is introduced. A finite element method has been frequently used to simulate hydraulic phenomena in a coastal zone since it can be applied to irregular and complex geometry. In case elliptic partial equations are governing equations for a finite element model, however, there is a difficulty in treating boundary conditions properly for cases in which boundaries are vertically inclined. In this study, a method to treat such inclined boundaries using Bessel functions for a finite element method is introduced and compared with analytical solutions.

In this paper, a four-pole quasi-elliptic function bandpass filter of 1.95GHz center frequency with 60 MHz bandwidth for IMT-2000 using miniaturized square SIR(Stepped Impedance Resonator) is designed and fabricated. The simulation of NUFDTD(Nonuniform Finite Difference Time Domain) is used to design the resonator and to calculate the coupling coefficient of three basic structures. The size reduction of miniaturized square SIR resonator is about more than 50% compare with a square open loop resonator. Bandpass filter using this resonator shows good microwave characteristic with the harmonic suppression of about 19dB. The results of measurements are almost similar to those of simulation.

We survey a recently developed immersed finite element method (IFEM) for the interface problems. The IFEM uses structured grids such as uniform grids, even if the interface is a smooth curve. Instead of fitting the curved interface, the bases are modified so that they satisfy the jump conditions along the interface. The early versions of IFEM [1, 2] were suboptimal in convergence order [3]. Later, the consistency terms were added to the bilinear forms [4, 5], thus the scheme became optimal and the error estimates were proven. For elasticity problems with interfaces, we modify the Crouzeix-Raviart based element to satisfy the traction conditions along the interface [6], but the consistency terms are not needed. To satisfy the Korn's inequality, we add the stabilizing terms to the bilinear form. The optimal error estimate was shown for a triangular grid. Lastly, we describe the multigrid algorithms for the discretized system arising from IFEM. The prolongation operators are designed so that the prolongated function satisfy the flux continuity condition along the interface. The W-cycle convergence was proved, and the number of V-cycle is independent of the mesh size.

The Fourier series uses a vibrating wave that possesses an amplitude that is like the one of the sine curve. Therefore, the functions used in the Fourier series do not change due to the value of the frequency and that set a limit to express irregular signals with rapid oscillations or with discontinuities in localized regions. However, the wavelet series analysis(WSA) method supplements these limits of the Fourier series by a linear combination of a suitable number of wavelets. By using the wavelet that is focused on time, it is able to give changes to the range in the cycle. Also, this enables to express a signal more efficiently that has singular configuration and that is flowing. The main objective of this study is to propose a scheme called wavelet series analysis for the application of wavelet theory to one-dimensional problems represented by the second-order elliptic equation and to evaluate theperformance of proposed scheme comparing with the finite element analysis. After a through evaluation of different types of wavelets, the HAT wavelet system is chosen as a wavelet function as well as a scaling function. It can be stated that the WSA method is as efficient as the FEA method in the case of axial bars with distributed loads, but the WSA method is more accurate than the FEA method at the singular points and its computation time is less.

In the present study, the Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes equations, together with the equations of the $k-{\varepsilon}$ model of turbulence, were solved numerically in a general body-fitted coordinate system for three-dimensional turbulent flows around the six basic shapes of the magnetically levitated train(MAGLEV). The numerical computations were conducted on the MAGLEV model configurations to provide information on shapes of this type very near the elevated track at a constant Reynolds number of $1.48{\times}10^{6}$ based on the body length. The coordinate system was generated by numerically solving a set of Poisson equations. The convective transport equations were discretized using the finite-analytic scheme which employed analytic solutions of the locally-linearized equations. A time marching algorithm was employed to enable future extensions to be made to handle unsteady and fully-elliptic problems. The pressure-velocity coupling was treated with the SIMPLER-algorithm. Of particular interests were wall effect by the elevated track on the aerodynamic forces and flow characteristics of the six models calculated. The results indicated that the half-circle configuration with extended sides and with smooth curvature of sides was desirable because of the low aerodynamic forces and pitching moment. And it was found that the separation bubble was occured at wake region in near the elevated track.

Random scalar countermeasures, which carry out the scalar multiplication by the ephemeral secret key, against the differential power analysis of ECIES and ECDH have been known to be secure against various power analyses. However, if an attacker can find this ephemeral key from the one power signal, these countermeasures can be analyzed. In this paper, we propose a new power attack method which can do this analysis. Proposed attack method can be accomplished while an attacker compares the elliptic curve doubling operations and we use the principle component analysis in order to ease this comparison. When we have actually carried out the proposed power analysis, we can perfectly eliminate the error of existing function for the comparison and find a private key from this elimination of the error.

In this paper, a narrow-band bandpass filter using microstrip open-loop resonators with coupled and crossing lines is designed and fabricated. This filter has many advantages such as compact in size, low weight and the characteristic of the elliptic-function narrow-band bandpass filtering. The configuration consists of two identical microstrip open loop resonators, coupled line and crossing line. By using open loop resonators, the size of the filter can be reduced about 50% compared with the ring resonators. A crossing line gives two notchs in the stopband, which have sharp selectivity in the passband. Centered at 2.455GHz, the calculated microstrip bandpass filter shows a bandwidth of 1.22%, which makes it very attractive for application in the wireless LAN. The filter is fabricated by photo-etching process. The fabricated bandpass filter shows that the bandwidth is 0.85% for 2.458GHz and the size is only $2.6cm\times1cm$.

The paper presents investigations on to which degree the sinking speed of longlines is influenced by type of bait, bait sinking orientations and anchor weights. The main aim of this study is to obtain further insight in the ocean current displacement phenomena in demersal longlining. The sinking speed is one of the main factors deciding the current displacement. In an ongoing project, sinking speed experiments with longlines with 6 kg and 10 kg anchor weights have been carried out in the Trondheim fjord. The longlines used in the first experiments were rigged without bait and hook. The results of these experiments with two different anchor weights have revealed only a slight difference in the sinking speed, except for the part near to the anchors, even though the sinking speed of longlines in general is supposed to be much influenced by the anchor weights. The reason for the obtained result is supposed to be that the experiments have been carried out at relative shallow waters. Further studies have included bait sinking experiments in the flume tank. The experiments showed that the drag coefficient of "fillet type (flat)" bait varied from 0.763 to 1.735, while it for "elliptic type" bait varied from 0.62 to 1.483. Other activities have included calculation of the sinking speed of longlines as a function of the established resistance coefficients of bait of various shape and size for commercial longlining. The calculated sinking speed of a longline with the fillet type bait was found to be 12.4 to 16.5% lower than for a longline without bait.
Numerical analysis using 3D finite element program (PLAXIS 3D) evaluated the interaction of soil - pile structure under dynamic surface loading. The dynamic p-y curve of the 1-g shaking table experiment by numerical analysis was calculated, and the parametric studies were presented by considering the pile-soil condition, the pile tip condition, and the loading condition. The frequency of 1.4 Hz is almost equal to the natural frequency of the pile - soil system. The p and y values of resonance phenomenon are significantly different from the results of other frequencies. The results can be summarized by a third order polynomial function representing the trend line in the p-y curve. In the case of a single pile, the shape of the dominant curve was found to be an ellipse by mathematical proof. The elliptic equation can be used for the dynamic design or analysis of soil-pile system.
The optical performance of LLF(Lenticular Lens Film)-based backlight was studied by using optical simulation as functions of the aspect ratio and the refractive index of lenticular lenses. In order to perform reliable simulation, the BSDF(bi-directional scattering distribution function) of the scattering dots on the bottom surface of the light guide plate was obtained as a superposition of the Lambertian and the elliptic Gaussian distribution components by comparing the experimental results and the simulation for the luminance distribution on the light guide. Based on this approach, an appropriate BSDF of the scattering dots of the light guide was constructed. The resultant values of the optimized aspect ratio and the refractive were found to be 1.25 and 1.65, respectively. In spite of the hybrid aspects of LLF incorporating both diffusing and collimating functions, the optical performance, in particular the on-axis luminance of LLF-based backlight was inferior by about 20% compared to that of conventional backlights adopting one prism film. However, the combination of two lenticular lens films resulted in comparable luminance gain as well as smooth decrease in the luminance with the viewing angle without exhibiting any side lobes.
