  • This study discusses on aims for affective development in national curriculum of mathematics. Firstly, affective characteristics of school mathematics studied in Korea are investigated. Secondly, aims for affective development in the Korean national curriculum of mathematics from the 1st curriculum to the current one are inspected. Thirdly, aims for affective development in national curriculum of Hong Kong, Singapore and Finland are researched. From the result, suggestions on the statement about aims for affective development are proposed.

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze recent research trends of mathematics textbooks to provide implications for textbook research and development. For this purpose, 90 out of 1121 research papers published between 2006 and 2011 in seven prestigious domestic journals were selected. The papers dealing with only Korean mathematics textbooks were analyzed by school levels (i.e., elementary or secondary), mathematics content areas, analytic methods, and implications. The papers comparing our mathematics textbooks with foreign counterparts were analyzed by reasons for the comparison, school levels, subjects for analysis, and implications. The results of this study urge us to pay more attention to secondary mathematics textbooks, least studied content areas, and various but inconsistent analytic methods. This paper also suggests close connections between textbook analysis and textbook development.

  • The purpose of this study was to find a future direction for improving computational estimation instruction through examining the contents of computational estimation included in the 2015 revised elementary school mathematics curriculum and elementary school mathematics textbook and teacher's guide. Through this, several suggestions was made as follow. Firs, it is necessary to emphasize the computational estimation across all grade groups. Second, it is necessary to teach the computational estimation strategies systematically. It was found that it is necessary to reinforce the activities related to computational estimation in the computation related units.

  • This study was to investigate the effects of mathematical history-based mathematics teaching on mathematical communication and attitudes of elementary students, through selecting mathematical history content to apply to elementary mathematics and devising an instruction model to use effectively. For this purpose, while the experimental group received instruction using mathematical history and the comparative group lecture-based instruction using the common textbook, both quantitative and qualitative methods were employed to analyze gathered data. To conclusion, first, instructions using mathematical history were helpful for increasing the student's participation in communication, and secondly helped the students justify their opinions to others with mathematical logic.

  • There are differences in manner to be shown according to a basic point of view about knowledge in division which is traditional algorithm. The 1st and 2nd stage show didactic transpositions less systemic. The 3rd stage, which were influenced by the new math, uses logical mechanism. The 4th stage shows conceptual knowledge of the division independently. The 5th and 6th stage use concrete models which shows a course. The 7th stage constitutes contents systematically and shows many chances which focus on the formation of knowledge. The suggestions derived from such transition should be considered in the practice class and an elementary mathematics textbooks for meaningful learning.

  • This research was conducted with focus groups interviews targeted at elementary teacher to analyze perceptions on storytelling based mathematics textbooks. As a result, elementary school teacher recognizes the introduction of storytelling as a major change in the revised textbooks. In addition, a change in the appearance of the revised textbook, the role of the Materials package, a change of assessment items, and increased exploration activity and the experience turned out to be having a significant impact on actual classroom as much as the introduction of storytelling.

  • Korea and Japan are close countries having a mutual influence on history and have similar cultural and educational circumstances. The purpose of this study was to compare and analyze the textbooks for elementary school mathematics between Korea and Japan. First, it established the theoretical backgrounds through the precedent research comparing the mathematic textbooks between South Korea and North Korea, Korea and India, Yanbian in China, Japan( Fraction part in numeral field. The Plane Figures). Next, it compared and analyzed two countries'(Korea and Japan) textbooks regarding the structural system and concept of units on the basis of the theoretical research. And it included more specific and detail contents in comparison of Korean with Japanese mathematic textbooks focused on the 5, 6th grade.

  • This study aims to analyze the characteristics of students' understanding of artificial intelligence and mathematical concepts by developing and applying an artificial intelligence education program for mathematics convergence using robots. To this end, we analyzed the content standards of elementary artificial intelligence education to extract conceptual elements of artificial intelligence and identified mathematics achievement standards that can effectively integrate them. In particular, a five-session (15 classes in total) program was developed by selecting the units 'angle' and 'quadrilateral' suitable for utilizing the robot's movement and reorganizing the lesson to integrate the mathematics achievement standard with the artificial intelligence content elements. As a result of applying this to 22 fourth grade elementary school students over five months and analyzing the students' understanding revealed by topic of artificial intelligence content, the artificial intelligence education program for mathematics convergence using robots was helpful in students' understanding artificial intelligence principles and mathematical concepts. In addition, the use of robots was confirmed to improve students' understanding of artificial intelligence and mathematics as well as their participation in class by making them visually check a series of performing procedures.

  • This paper examines and presents descriptions of 12 prospective primary teachers' views on the nature of mathematics in USA. All the participants were elementary teacher candidates enrolled in the same mathematics method courses. Interview data show that the prospective primary teachers possess two kinds of views on the nature of mathematics: primarily traditional and even mix of traditional and nontraditional beliefs in terms of Raymond's (1997) belief criteria. Implications for teacher education were discussed at the end of the paper.

  • The purpose of this thesis is to help the teachers in school to widen the knowledge and to understand the North Korean society by comparative analysis of South and North Korean elementary school's mathematics education process and text books. It is needless to say that we need to have more knowledge and understanding about North Korea as the international and national situation is changing so rapidly these days. One of the most effective ways to understand North Korea is to understand their education. So, 1 wrote this thesis as a way of getting ready for the united Korea by knowing mathematics texts and their system, composition, contents of elementary school in North Korea If this little try is going to be a help in anyway, I will try to do a better study in future.
