In this study, a survey was conducted of students of elementary through college on their conceptions of phenomenon related with dissolution, saturation, and extraction. The teaching strategies of elementary and secondary teachers related to dissolution phenomena were also investigated. Most of elementary and secondary school students thought of dissolution as a phenomenon in which particles broke into the spaces between other particles. This explanation called 'space conception' can be sought in elementary school science textbooks. Some of high school students also had this type of thought. A concept of dissolution phenomenon as 'hydration through attraction of solvent and solute' was held by most of students of 11th, 12th grade, and college. This explanation called 'attraction concept' can be sought in high school chemistry textbooks for 11th and 12th grade. But many students of elementary through college used analogies and models related to 'space conception' when they tried to explain the dissolution phenomena. This indicates that the 'attraction concept' was not firmly established in the students' cognition. 90% of elementary school teachers thought and taught dissolution as a phenomenon in which two different size particles were mixing together like as mixing beans and millets. The model does not represent the attractions among solvent-solvent particles, solvent-solute particles, and solute-solute particles. This model only represents the space size effect (smaller size particles fitting into the spaces of larger size particles). Half of the secondary school teachers also had 'space conception' and only 20% of the teachers had 'attraction concept' Many teachers who had 'attraction concept' used to represent explanation related to 'space conception' for teaching dissolution.

Many current researches are limited in the statistics field, which is a part of mathematics class in the secondary school. Moreover, it's hard to apply to the elementary school since they are written in English. To overcome this limitations, the objectives from the unit that is suitable for using EXCEL in the elementary mathematics lessons are selected in this research. And a problem-based learning model for these lessons would be introduced that it can help students to focus on solving substances of the problems by reducing the time for arithmetic calculation.

Block programming environment, which is represented by Scratch in elementary and middle school programming education, is suitable for learner's characteristics and cognitive level, and is recommended not only for beginners. Transference to the text programming environment after the block programming is essential for understanding the data processing process, understanding the accuracy and efficiency aspects of algorithms, and creating SW activity. In addition, it is presented step by step in the programming curriculum. In this study, developed WithBlock the online evaluation system for the purpose of transference from a block programming to a text programming environment. The developed system can solve the same algorithm problem in both block and text programming environment, and it can be used for elementary and secondary programming education by automatically scoring the written code and providing immediate feedback. In order to applicable to programming education in elementary and secondary surveyed the usability, learning possibility, interest and satisfaction of WithBlock. The results of the survey showed that it can be used for programming education.

The purpose of the study was to develop The Stream Environmental education u-learning contents for elementary school students. For the development of content, the researchers commissioned detailed examination to experts to confirm validity, did a literature review and hosted expert forums. In addition, to enhance accessibility, they asked fairytale writers to develop easier and more valid scenarios and narrations of u-learning contents for elementary school students. The development content is for 18 hours of education and has three sections: i) Preparation, ii) Exploration, and iii) Arrangement. Since the content has been developed based on SCROM, it is expected to have re-usability, accessibility, compatibility and durability. Based on evaluation criteria of u-learning contents suggested in the research methods, the research group commissioned evaluation to ten experts in environmental education of each school level. Recommendations for applying the content developed in this study and further research are as follows: First, the developed content should be actively promoted and provided both online and offline so that elementary school students can fully utilize them. To this end, the website of the Ministry of Environment and u-learning training centers of universities of education should be used. Since content requires interaction not only between learners of the content but also between learners and operators, additional administrative and financial support should be provided. Second, this study focuses on the development of u-learning contents for elementary school students. Further studies are needed to develop content for secondary school students.

The trends of plant-related teaching and learning of elementary and secondary schools were presented in this paper. The textbooks of other subject matters except biology were analyzed for their plant-related learning contents. It was suggested that interconnection exists between biology and other subjects in the relations with plant-related learning materials. A total of 331 books were analyzed from 143 elementary schools, 117 middle schools and 71 high schools. 1. Among the learning materials, 264 species of plant were presented in elementary schools textbooks, 295 in middle schools, and 283 in high schools. Other subjcets had more various plants than biology. 2. Korean language, social study and home ecology had more plant materials than other subjects with not only simple citation but scientific concepts and inquiry activities. As this plant-related materials is considerable for school education and science curriculum. 3. The available plants in daily life - resource plants, edible plants, demonstration plants and engineering-related plants - were cited in other subjects. Interconnection of plant-related materials with biology and other subjects will provide basis of STS education and subject integration.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the aspect of variation of the texts in elementary and secondary school science textbooks at each grade level in terms of linguistic features. Data included some of the written texts related to 'Volcano and Earthquake' in Korean elementary and secondary school science textbooks in the seventh National Curriculum. The written texts were comparatively analyzed in terms of textual meaning, interpersonal meaning, and ideational meaning. Results revealed that there were different structures and linguistic features of the texts in school science textbooks depending on the grade level. Therefore, we argue that the differences in this study may make students feel difficult and strange when they read and understand science textbooks. We suggest that science teachers need to play the role of a mediator between students' understanding and the structural features of the scientific language in science learning.

The purpose of this study is to show the way of teaching the scietific talent in Japan. This study was conducted only by the printed matters. The results of the investigation are as follows: 1. Japan at present has neither systems nor laws for offical scientific talent education. 2. Japanese's scientific knowledge and way of rational thinking had been widespread among the general public by elementary education from one hundred ten years or so ago. 3. In addition, the instrument subjects such as foreign language and mathematics were well educated in the elementary and secondary school level and the preparatory courses of college. 4. Especially, the third and the first preparatory courses of a college(Daisan Koukou and Daiitchi Koukou) and Kyoto University have contributed greatly to the cultivation of liberal spirit in education, which turned out to be one of the essential elements for scientific talent education.
There are concepts in calculus which are difficult to teach and learn. One of these concepts is integration. However, problem posing has not yet received the attention it deserves from the mathematics education community. There is no systematic study that deals with teaching of calculus concepts by problem posing oriented teaching strategy. In this respect this study investigated the effect of problem posing on students' (prospective teachers') academic success when problem posing oriented approach is used to teach the integral concept in Calculus-II (Mathematics-II) course to first grade prospective teachers who are enrolled to the Primary Science Teaching Program of Education Faculty. The study used intervention-posttest experimental design. Quantitative research techniques were employed to gather, analyze and interpret the data. The sample comprised 79 elementary prospective science teachers. The results indicate that problem posing approach effects academic success in a positive way and at significant level.

The purpose of this study was to develop an instrument for analysing elementary secondary school, and university science laboratory instructions. The categories of this analysis instrument were instituted through literature overviews and interactions with three researchers in a science classroom analyst team, a doctoral student, and eight master level students, who participated in the process of modification of the analysis instruments on the science laboratory instructions. The contents areas were divided into three categories: aims of laboratory activities, interactions, and scientific inquiry processes. Each category contains $2\~3$ items. So the instrument consisted of 20 subcategories. The validity of the this instrument was achieved through checking with 4 science education specialists.
Objectives: It is known that the majority of middle schoolers spend the substantial amount of time using the Internet. Despite the fact, little is known about which factors are related to an increase in Internet use and what could be the consequences of excessive Internet use. The aim of this study was to explore factors affecting an increase in Internet use among elementary schoolers representing the population of South Korean elementary schoolers. Method: Secondary data obtained from the Korea Youth Panel Survey were analyzed longitudinally. Results: The average minutes spent using the Internet was 73.43 in the first wave, and was 92.17 in the second wave. Also, the percentage of those who experienced illegal behaviors on the Internet was 22.86% in the first wave, and was 30.92% in the second wave. Second, increased Internet use was strongly associated with an attack tendency, depression, suicidal ideation, stress, and delinquent behaviors. Finally, gender(being female), and increased attacking tendency, and smoking experiences successfully predicted an increase in Internet use one year later. Conclusions: It is necessary to provide education programs to young people and to develop preventive strategies for them. Through providing education programs, children can form desirable attitudes regarding the Internet use. Through providing intervention strategies, children can prevent from experiencing negative consequences due to excessive Internet use.
