  • In this paper, we find the necessary and sufficient conditions for the discrete time nonlinear system to be transformed into observable canonical form by state coordinates change. Unlike the continuous time case, our theorems give the desired state coordinates change without solving partial differential equations. Also, our approach is applicable to both autonomous systems and control systems by slight change of the definition of the vector field.

  • In this paper, a parameter estimator is developed for the plant model whose structure is represented by the Takagi-Sugeno model. The essential idea behind the on-line estimation is the comparison of the measured stated with the state of an estimation model whose structure is the same as that of the parameterized model. Based on the parameter estimation scheme, and indirect Model Reference Adaptive Fuzzy control(MRAFC) scheme is proposed to provide asymptotic tracking of a reference signal for the systems with uncertain for slowly time-varying parameters. The developed control law and adaptive law guarantee the boundedness of all signals in the closed-loop systems. In addition, the plant state tracks the state of the reference model asymptotically with time for any bounded reference input signal.

  • This paper proposes a robust control using a sliding mode controller and a fuzzy controller. Having the excellent transient response, the sliding mode controller has the poor steady state response, but the fuzzy controller has a good steady state reponse. A proposed controller combined these controllers has the quick response at the initial condition without the errors. The proposed robust nonlinear controller takes the advantage of the fuzzy controller and is the rapid and the stable response in conditions that the sliding mode controller keeps the errors at the steady state. The performance of proposed method is proved by simulation of the inverted pendulum.

  • An effective signal detection algorithm with low complexity is presented for multiple-input multiple-output orthogonal frequency division multiplexing systems. The proposed technique, QR-MLD, combines the conventional maximum likelihood detection (MLD) algorithm and the QR algorithm, resulting in much lower complexity compared to MLD. The proposed technique is compared with a similar algorithm, showing that the complexity of the proposed technique with T=1 is a 95% improvement over that of MLD, at the expense of about a 2-dB signal-to-noise-ratio (SNR) degradation for a bit error rate (BER) of $10^{-3}$. Additionally, with T=2, the proposed technique reduces the complexity by 73% for multiplications and 80% for additions and enhances the SNR performance about 1 dB for a BER of $10^{-3}$.

  • In this note, the Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy-model-based state estimator using standard Kalman filter theory is investigated. In that case, the dynamic system model is represented the T-S fuzzy model with the fuzzy state estimation. The steady state solutions can be found for proposed modeling method and dynamic system for maneuvering targets can be approximated as locally linear system. And then, modeled filter is corrected by the fuzzy gain which is a fuzzy system using the relation between the filter residual and its variation. This paper studies the T-S fuzzy model-based state estimator which the dynamic system can be approximated as linear system.

  • This paper describes a method for the design of a self-tuning controller of single-input/single-output systems with system noises and obsrrvation noises. The method uses state-space techniques to assign the closed-loop system poles to desired locations, but the control law is made up of process input and output measurement values, so that state estimation is unnecessary. Also the difficulties of tracking of reference inputs in state.space pole-placing control are tackled by including the reference input in the cost function proposed by Beger.

  • Ceramic metal halide lamps have been widely used due to long lifetime, high luminous efficiency and good colour rendering. 35[W] ceramic metal halide lamps has very different characteristics between ignition state and steady state. The developed electronic ballast is satisfied to both ignition state and steady state characteristics by using a micro-controller. The proposed electronic ballast is consists of EMI filter, Full-wave rectifier, Active PFC, DBI(Dual Buck Inverter), Igniter and control circuit. It enables to supply both low-frequency rectangular wave voltage and current to the lamp by using DBI(Dual Bcuk Inverter) structure.

  • In this paper, a new model error following sliding mode control is considered with a novel sliding surface for the error. This novel sliding surface has nominal dynamics of an original state of the error system and makes it possible that the Sliding Mode Control(SMC) technique for the error of the model following is used with the various types of controllers. Its design is based on the augmented system whose dynamics have a higher order than that of the original error system. The reaching phase is removed by using an initial virtual state which makes the initial error state sliding function equal to zero.

  • This paper presents a control bandwidth extension method for inverters with a low carrier ratio. The bandwidth is extended at the price of decreasing the phase margin. Then the phase margin is compensated by introducing an extra leading angle into an inverse Park transformation. The model of the controller with the proposed method is established. The magnitude and phase characteristics are also analyzed. Then the influence on system stability when the leading angle is introduced is analyzed. The proposed method is applied to design an inverter controller with both a large bandwidth and a desired phase margin, and the experimental results verify that the controller performs well in the steady-state and in terms of transient response.

  • Metal halide lamps have been made suitable for use in outdoor illumination systems over many years. They are also widely used in application and commercial lighting due to their attracting properties such as good quality color, rendering and high efficiency. Over the past few years, a considerable number of studies have been conducted on the electronic ballast with hot restarting and resonance phenomenon. However, very few attempts have been made at the adaptive ignition method according to lamp state. This paper proposes an electronic ballast for metal halide lamps with an igniter for adaptive ignition. The proposed electronic ballast can generate different ignition voltages according to the arc tube state. The experimental results showed that the proposed ballast circuit using adaptive igniter is suitable for 70W HQI lamps.
