전자빔증착법을 통한 SiOx 박막의 액정 배향 효과 (Liquid Crystal Alignment Effects on SiOx Thin Film by Electron Beam Evaporation Method)

  • By using $45^{\circ}$ obliqued evaporation method with electron beam system, uniformly vertical liquid crystal (LC) alignment was achieved. And a high pretilt angles of about $2.5^{\circ}$ were measured. Also, it was verified that there are no variations of pretilt angle as a function of $SiO_x$ thin film thickness 20 nm and 50 nm. A good LC alignment states were observed at annealing temperature of $250^{\circ}C$. Consequently, the high pretilt angle and the good thermal stability of LC alignment by $45^{\circ}$ obliqued electron beam evaporation method on the $SiO_x$ thin film can be achieved.

  • The laser-induced plasma affects greatly on the results of welding process. moreover selective evaporation loss of alloying elements leads to change in chemical composition of weld metal as well as the mechanical properties of welded joint. this study was undertaken to obtain a fundamental knowledge of pulsed laser welding phenomena especially evaporation mechanism of different aluminum alloys. The intensities of molecular spectra of AlO and MgO were different each other depeding on the power density of a laser beam Under the low power density condition the MgO band spectrum was predominant in intensity while the AlO spectra became much stronger with an increase in the power density. These behaviors have been attributed to the difference in evaporation phenomena of Al and Mg metals with different boiling points and latent heats of vaporization. The time-averaged plasma temperature and electron number density were determined by spectroscopic methods and consequently the obtained temperature was $3,280{\pm}150K$ and the electron number density was $1.85{\times}10^{19}\;l/m^3$.

Transparent MgO films deposited on glass substrates by e-beam evaporation for AC plasma display panels

  • Transparent MgO thin films were deposited on glass substrates by electron beam evaporation of MgO (99.99%) under $O_2$ atmosphere at 150-250 $^{\circ}C$. These films were characterized for their useful properties such as thickness, transmission, and refractive index using ultraviolet / visible (UV/VIS) spectrophotometer, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and Spectroscopic Ellipsometry. The thickness of MgO films were measured by alpha step instrument and found to be 600 nm to 1000 nm and are meeting the stoichiometry. The transmission spectrum of these films shows transmittance values ${\sim}$92%..

증기증착 공정 감시를 위한 반도체 레이저 흡수 분광학 (Semiconductor laser-based absorption spectroscopy for monitoring physical vapor deposition process)

  • 반도체 레이저를 광원으로 사용하는 원자흡수분광 방법으로 금속증기의 증착 공정을 감시하는 연구를 수행하였다. 전자빔 가열 방식을 이용하여 gadolinium (Gd) 금속을 대량으로 증발시켰다. 파장 영역이 770-794 nm (중심파장 780 nm)인 반도체 레이저빔과 388-396 nm 영역의 제 2 고조파 빔을 진공용기에 입사시켜 증발되는 금속증기의 원자흡수 스펙트럼을 실시간으로 기록하였다. 흡수 스펙트럼을 분석하여 증기의 원자밀도를 구했다. 전자빔 출력을 변화시키면서 측정한 원자밀도를 수정 결정 모니터 장치를 사용하여 측정한 증착률과 비교하였다. 산업적으로 많이 사용되는 Ti 등의 증착 공정 감시에 이 실험에서 구현한 레이저 분광장치를 적용할 수 있다는 것을 제시하였다.

MgO 보호막의 결함 전위 레벨이 AC-PDP 방전 특성에 미치는 효과 (Effect of Defect Energy levels on the AC PDP Discharging Characteristics)

  • 본 연구에서는 전자빔 증착의 증착률이 MgO 보호막의 특성과 제작된 PDP의 방전 특성에 주는 영향에 대하여 연구, 분석 하였다. MgO 박막을 여러 조건의 증착률로 증착하였고, 이 후 결정 구조, 표면 거칠기, 박막 구조와 같은 특성을 XRD, AFM 등을 사용하여 측정, 평가하였다. 실험 결과와 Paschen law을 통해서 $5\AA/sec$의 증착률에서 이차전자방출이 최대가 되는 것을 확인할 수 있었으며, 동일 조건에서 방전 전압이 가장 작고, 발광 효율은 가장 큰 값을 갖는 것이 확인되었다. 또한 $5\AA/sec$의 (200) 결정 방향과 $F^+$ center 측정값도 가장 높게 측정되었다. XRD와 CL 스펙트럼의 결과를 통하여 이차전자방출계수가 MgO 박막의 분자 결정상의 $F/F^+$ centers구조와 관련 있음을 확인할 수 있었다.

Direct Patterning of Self Assembled Nano-Structures of Block Copolymers via Electron Beam Lithography

  • This study describes a method where the match of two different length scales, i.e., the patterns from self-assembled block copolymer (<50 nm) and electron beam writing (>50 nm), allow the nanometer scale pattern mask. The method is based on using block copolymers containing a poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) block, which is subject to be decomposed under an electron beam, as a pattern resist for electron beam lithography. Electron beam on self assembled block copolymer thin film selectively etches PMMA microdomains, giving rise to a polymeric nano-pattern mask on which subsequent evaporation of chromium produces the arrays of Cr nanoparticles followed by lifting off the mask. Furthermore, electron beam lithography was performed on the micropatterned block copolymer film fabricated by micro-imprinting, leading to a hierarchical self assembled pattern where a broad range of length scales was effectively assembled, ranging from several tens of nanometers, through submicrons, to a few microns.

  • In general, Dye-sensitized Solar Cells(DSCs) consist of the nanocrystalline titanium dioxide($TiO_2$) layer which is fabricated on a transparent conductive oxide(TCO) layer such as $F/SnO_2$ glass, a dye adhered to the $TiO_2$, an electrolyte solution and platinum-coated TCO. Among these components, two TCO substrates are estimated to be about 60% of the total cost of the DSCs. Currently novel TCO-less structures have been investigated in order to reduce the cost. In this study, TCO-less DSCs consisting of titanium electrodes were investigated. The titanium electrode is deposited on top of the porous $TiO_2$ layer using electron-beam evaporation process. The porosity of the titanium electrode was found out by the SEM analysis and dye adhesion. As a result, when the thickness of the titanium electrode increased, the surface resistance decreased and the conversion efficiency increased relatively.

Measurement of secondary electron emission coefficient(${\gamma}$) with oblique low energy ion and work function ${\phi}_{\omega}$ of theMgO thin film in AC-PDPs

  • Oblique ion-induced secondary electron emission coefficient(${\gamma}$) with low energy ..and work function ${\phi}_{\omega}$(${\theta}$ = 0 and ${\theta}$ = 20) of the MgO thin film in AC-PDPs has been measured by ${\gamma}$-FIB system. The MgO thin film has been deposited from sintered material under electron beam evaporation method. The energy of $He^+$ ions used has been ranged from 50eV to 150eV. Oblique ion beam has been chosen to be 10 degree, 20 degree and 30 degree. It is found that the higher secondary electron emission coefficient(${\gamma}$) has been achieved by the higher oblique ion beam up to inclination angle of 30 degree than the perpendicular incident ion beam.

MgO Properties Depending on E-beam Evaporation Rate and Its Effects on the PDP Discharging Characteristics

  • Effects of the evaporation rate of MgO films using electron beam were investigated on the MgO properties and the discharge characteristics of the plasma display panel (PDP). The evaporation rate was changed from 3 ${\AA}/sec$ to 15 ${\AA}/sec$ at a substrate temperature of $300\;^{\circ}C$. MgO properties such as crystal orientation, surface roughness, contact angle, and film structure were inspected using XPS, AFM, drop shape analysis and SEM. We also studied the relation between MgO properties and PDP discharging characteristics. The minimum firing voltage and maximum efficacy were obtained at evaporation rate of 5 ${\AA}/sec$. In the MgO film deposited at 5 ${\AA}/sec$, (200) orientation was most intensive and surface roughness was minimum.

Influence of sintering temperature of MgO pellet on the electro-optical characteristics of alternating current plasma display panel (AC-PDP)

  • We have investigated the electro-optical characteristics of AC-PDP with different MgO protective layers, which have been deposited by electron beam evaporation from various sintered pellets with different temperatures. We have measured the secondary electron emission coefficient ($\gamma$) by using the Gamma Focused Ion Beam ($\gamma$-FIB) system, the static margin, and the address delay time. Also, we have investigated photoluminescence (PL) characteristics for understanding the energy levels of MgO pellets and protective layers.
