  • Electrochemical measurement using a LSCF6428 electrode was performed to estimate the oxygen potential gradient in the electrode layer and a long time stability test was performed by applied potential to learn the overpotential effect on the LSCF6428 electrode. By fitting the observed impedance spectra, it was obtained that the amount of faradic current decreased with distance from cathode/electrolyte interface. Oxygen potential gradient was estimated to occur within 1 um region from the cathode/electrolyte interface at an oxygen partial pressure of 10-1 bar. The segregation of cation rich phases in the LSCF6428 electrode suggests that kinetic decomposition took place. However, impedance response after applying the potential showed no changes in the electrode compared with before applying potential. The obtained results suggest that segregation of a secondary phase in a LSCF6428 cathode is not related to performance degradation for solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs).

  • This paper proposes a differential structure sensor for detecting Ringer's solution exhaustion, in which three C-type electrodes of 10 mm width are disposed on a ringer hose at a distance of 5 mm each other in the direction of Ringer's solution flow. In the center of middle electrode, two capacitances are formed at the proposed sensor. When ringer hose is filled with Ringer's solution, there is no difference between two capacitances. But capacitance difference exist under the Ringer's solution shortage, because the shortage causes the hose filled with air from the top position electrode. The capacitance difference got to maximum 1.81 pF, when air was filled between top and middle electrode and the last of hose was filled with 10 % dextrose injection Ringer's solution. The capacitance difference varied with hose-wraparound coverage of electrodes as well as the width of them. For hose-wraparound electrode coverage of 90 % and 70 %, the maximum capacitance difference was 1.81 pF and 1.56 pF, respectively. A differential charge amplifier converted the capacitance difference to electric signal, and minimized electrodes' adhering problem and external noise coupling problem.

  • This paper describes analysis of risk voltage for grounding electrode where earth leakage current is injected. To assess risk voltage of grounding electrode, the grounding simulator and CDEGS program were used to obtain measured data and theoretical results of this study. The grounding simulator was composed of a hemispherical water tank, AC power supply, a movable potentiometer, and test grounding electrodes. The shapes of grounding electrode model was ground rod. The potential rise was measured by grounding simulator, and the touch and step voltages were computed by CDEGS program. As a consequence, the potential rise of ground rod abruptly decreases with increasing the distance from the grounding electrode to the point to be tested. The touch voltage above the ground rod was low, but the step voltage was high. The measured results were compared with the computer calculated data and were known in good agreement.

  • Plasma arc cutting is one of the most widely used processes in metal cutting fields and is a process that produces parted metal plates by cutting them with an arc plasma established between the electrode tip and the plate(workpiece). When the tip-to-workpiece distance varies during cutting, the cut quality, for example the kerf width, is deteriorated by the change of plasma arc. The variations of tip-to-workpiece distance are due to the different factors such as inaccuracies in setting the torch or workpiece, thermal distortions during cutting, and uneven surface of workpiece. The control to keep the tip-to-workpiece distance constant is thus indispensable to improve the flexibility of automatic plasma arc cutting system applications. In this study, an arc sensor which utilizes the electrical signal obtained from the plasma arc itself was developed. The arc sensor has an advantage that no particular sensing device is necessary and real-time sensing of the tip-to-workpiece distance is possible directly under the plasma arc. The relationship between plasma arc voltage and tip-to-workpiece distance was determined through the repeated experimental results. The model was used for developing an automatic tip-to-workpiece distance control system of plasma arc cutting. It could be shown that the proposed system has a successful capability of tip-to-workpiece distance control.

  • This paper proposes a compact-sized surface myoelectric sensor for the myoelectric hand prosthesis. To fit the surface myoelectric sensor in the socket for the myoelectric hand prosthesis, the sensor should be a compact size. The surface myoelectric sensor is. composed of a skin interface and a single processing circuit that are mounted on a single package. The skin interface has one reference and two input electrodes, and the reference electrode is located in the center of two input electrodes. In this paper we propose two types of sensors with the circle- and bar-shaped reference electrode, but all input electrodes are the bar-shaped. The metal material of the electrodes is the stainless steel (SUS440) that endures sweat and wet conditions. Considering the conduction velocity and the median frequency of the myoelectric signal, we select the inter-electrode distance (IED) between two input electrodes as 18mm, 20mm, and 22 mm. The signal processing circuit consists of a differential amplifier with a band pass filter, a band rejection filter for rejecting 60Hz power-line noise, amplifiers, and a mean absolute value circuit. We evaluate the proposed sensor from the output characteristics according to the IED and the shape of the reference electrode. From the experimental results we show the surface myoelectric sensor with the 18mm IED and the bar-shaped reference electrode is suitable for the myoelectric hand prosthesis.

  • A microfabricated chip with in-channel electrochemical cell using interdigitated gold electrode was fabricated for sensitive electrochemical analysis. The gold electrodes were fabricated on glass wafer using thermal evaporator and were covered using PDMS mold containing microchannel for analyte and electrolyte. The active area of each electrode was $250\;{\mu}m{\times}200\;{\mu}m$ with a gap of 200 ${\mu}m$ between the electrodes. Microelectrodes results in maximum amplification of signal, since the signal enhancement effect due to cycling of the reduced and oxidized species strongly depends on the inter electrode distance. Analytes such as methylene blue and guanosine were characterized using the fabricated electrodes and their electrochemical characteristics were compared with conventional bulk electrodes. The device so developed shall find use as disposable electrochemical cell for rapid and sensitive analysis of electroactive species.

  • In order to reduce the pollution load from the livestock farms and to improve the water quality of the effluent in livestock wastewater, the electrolysis system is introduced. For the selection of optimal electrode, various combination of electrodes such as carbon, Al and Fe were examined. In this study, electrode material, electrolyte concentration, electrode distance, current density, and pH value were found to have significant effect on both pollutant removal efficiency and current efficiency in electrochemical oxidation process. After electrolysis for 90 min with carbon/Al, it was observed that COD, T-N, T-P and $NH_4^+-N$ of livestock waste-water were removed with $80\%,\;61\%,\;81\%\;and\;87\%$, respectively.

  • The needle electrode was inserted in virgin and 1.000 hr aged XLPE which is the insulation used for 22.9 kV underground distribution cable with the distance of 1, 1.5 and 2mm respectively. Breakdown voltage were measured for the virgin and 1.000 hr aged specimen and statistically evaluated through Weibull distribution. As the of electrode increase in virgin and 1.000 hr aged specimen. shape parameter and scale parameter showed increase coincidently. For shape parameter, the value of aged specimen showed the higher than that of virgin specimen.

  • Several ITO-less PDP cell structures are presented to improve luminous efficacy. The ITO-less PDP have been applied recently at actual panel manufacture. The influence of ITO-less PDP cell structure on the discharge characteristics has been investigated by using three-dimensional fluid simulation. The variations of electrode geometry parameters such as gap distance, cross bar length, and hump length are investigated for the optimization of cell design.
