수직 광폴리머를 이용한 VA-1/4$\pi$셀의 전기 광학 특성 (Electro-optical Characteristics of in the Vertical-Alignment 1/4$\pi$ Cell Using Homeotroopic Photopolymer)

  • The electro-optical (EO) performance in the vertical-alignment (VA) - 1/4$\pi$ cell photoaligned with polarized UV exposure on a homeotropic photopolymer surfaces was investigated. Excellent voltage-transmittance curve in the VA - 1/4$\pi$ cell photoaligned with polarized UV exposure for 3 min on the photopolymer containing cholesteryl group of 8% can be achieved. The V-T characteristics in the VA-1/4$\pi$ cell photoaligned on the photopolymer surface can be improved by increasing cholesteryl group. For response time measurement, the transmittance characteristics of the VA-1/4$\pi$ cell photopolymer surface was better than that of the VA-1/4$\pi$ cell rubbingaligned on a polyimide(PI) surface.

  • We studied the electro-optical (EO) performance in the vertical-alignment (VA) - l/4$\pi$ cell photoaligned with polarized UV exposure on a homeotropic photopolymer surfaces. Excellent voltage-transmittance curve in the VA - l/4$\pi$ cell photoaligned with polarized UV exposure for 3 min on the photopolymer containing cholesterol group of 8% can be achieved. The V-T characteristics in the VA-l/4$\pi$ cell photoaligned on the photopolymer surface can be improved by increasing cholesteryl group. For response time measurement, the transmittance characteristics of the VA-l/4$\pi$ cell photoaligned on the photopolymer surface was better than that of the VA-l/4$\pi$ cell rubbingaligned on a polyimide(Pl) surface.

  • The electro-optical (EO) performances for the twisted-nematic (TN)-liquid crystal display (LCD) photo-aligned with polarized UV exposure on various blending photopolymer surfaces were investigated. Excellent LC alignment and voltage-transmittance (V-T) characteristics for TN-LCD photo-aligned with polarized UV exposure of normal incidence on the blending photopolymer (polyimide (PI) +PM4Ch(poly(4-methacryloyloxy chalcone))) surface containing chalcone group can be achieved. The EO performances for the TN-LCD photo-aligned on the blending photopolymer can be improved due to the photosensitivity by long side chain of the photopolymer.

  • The electro-optical (EO) performances of a multidomain vertical-alignment (MVA) cell on a homeotropic photopolymer have been investigated. In the absence of an electric field, the MVA cell achieved black state as LC alignment is homeotropic. An electric field created by interdigitated electrodes and rib made after photolithograph using the photopolymer on both substrates causes a director deformation of a multidomain type. Good voltage-transmittance curves for a MVA cell on the homeotropic photopolymer were observed. Also, the stable response time of MVA cell on the homeotropic photopolymer can be achieved.

  • We studied electro-optical (EO) performances of a vertical-alignment (VA)-in plane switching (IPS) cell on a photopolymer surfaces. The VA-IPS cell, dark in voltage-off state, reveals bright uniformity in all directions due to the dual domainlike dierector configuration in the voltage-on state. For voltage-transmittance (V-T) measurement, the transmittance characteristics of the VA-IPS cell on the photopolymer surface was better than that of the VA-IPS cell on a polyimide(PI) surface.

  • We synthesized photoalignment material of high thermal resistance with hydroxyl aromatic polyimide, and studied the liquid crystal (LC) aligning capabilities on the photopolymer layers. Also, electro-optical (EO) performances for the twisted-nematic (TN)-liquid crystal display (LCD) photoaligned with linearly polarized UV exposure were investigated. A good LC alignment with UV exposure on the photopolymer surface can be obtained. However, the low pretilt angles were obtained below $1^{\circ}$. The Voltage-transmittance (V-T) curve without backflow bounce in the photoaligned TN cell with UV exposure was observed. The response time of photoaligned TN cell was measured about 24 ms. Finally, The photoaligned TN cell has few hysteresis, and shows the residual DC voltage that is less.

  • Electro-optical characteristics of new multi-domain vertical-alignment (MVA) liquid crystal displays (LCDs) with negative dielectric anisotropy on a homeotropic photopolymer were studied. Good voltage-transmittance (V-T) curves by the new MVA-LCD on the homeotropic photo-polymer were obtained. Also, the stable response time of MVA-LCD on the homeotropic photopolymer can be achieved. The viewing angle of the new MVA-LCD could be improved by the grating groove with UV exposure and development on the photo-polymer.

  • We synthesized the two types of photoalignment material of high thermal resistance with hydroxyl aromatic polyimide, and studied the liquid crystal (LC) aligning capabilities on the photopolymer layers. Also, electro-optical (EO) performances for the twisted-nematic (TN)-liquid crystal display (LCD) photoaligned with linearly polarized UV exposure were investigated. The Voltage-transmittance (V-T) curve in the photoaligned TN cell with UV exposure was different from two type. The response time of photoaligned TN cell was measured about 21 ms in two alkyl chain and about 15 ms in four alkyl chain.

  • Electro-optical (EO) performances for the twisted-nematic (TN)-liquid crystal display (LCD) photoaligned with linearly polarized UV exposure on the poly[4- (fluorocinnamate) phenylmaleimide](PFCPMI) surfaces using a new photodimerization method were investigated. For a new UVLPH (UV linearly polarized during heating) photodimerization method, the photopolymer layers were exposed by linearly polarized UV dichroic polarizer without a specific UV filter during heating at $150^{\circ}C$. The Voltage-transmittance (V-T) curve without backflow bounce in the photoaligned TN-LCD with UV exposure on the PFCPMI surface for 10 min using the UVLPH photodimerization method was observed. For response time measurement, the transmittance characteristics of the photoaligned TN-LCD using the UVLPH photodimerization method on the photopolymer surface was better than that of the photoaligned TN-LCD using the UVLP photodimerization method under a room temperature.
