  • One of the typical problems in the precise vibration is resonance characteristics at low frequency disturbance due to a heavy mass. An electro-magnetic(EM) air spring is a kind of vibration control unit and active isolator. The EM air spring in this study aims at removing the low frequency resonance for semiconductor manufacturing. The mechanical and electronic parts in the active isolator are designed to operate under a weight of 2.5 tons. The EM spring is floated using air pressure in a pneumatic elastic chamber and actuated by EM levitation force. The actuator consists of a EM coil and a permanent magnetic plate which are installed inside of the chamber. An air mount was constructed for the experiment with a stone surface plate, 4 active air springs, 4 gap sensors, a DSP controller, and a multi-channel power amp. A PD control method and operating logic was applied to the DSP. Simulation using 1/4 model was carried out and compared with the experiments. The time duration and maximum peak at resonance frequency can be reduced sharply by the proposed system. The results show that the active system can avoid the resonance caused by the natural frequency of the passive system.

  • The magneto-rheological fluid expresses different cohesiveness according to the strength of the external electric current. The magneto-rheological fluid damper, which uses such characteristics of the fluid, generates shear force due to the fluid's cohesiveness. The core can be said to determine the magneto-rheological fluid damper's performance. This study uses the finite element analysis to compare the performance of different electromagnetic forces, which are affected by the shapes of the coil, and thus to find the optimum design for the core. In addition, as a step to construct a high-efficient damper, we suggest a type of damper that can control multiple coils and compares the performance of this damper and that of the standard damper by comparing the performance of their electro-magnetic fields.

  • We made a high-speed motor and a DC brush-less motor for factory automation (FA) to investigate applicability of powder magnetic core to motor application, and compared those performances with the similar motors having conventional electro magnetic steel core. Permeability and saturated magnetization of powder magnetic core are less than those of elect romagnetic steel core, however output performances of each core motor are almost the same. The FA motor with powder magnetic core using three-dimensional magnetic circuit showed higher torque than the same volume motor with electromag netic steel core.

  • In this study, magnetic properties of anodized Al film deposited with ferro-magnetic metals in the capacity of perpendicular magnetic recording media were measured and evaluated to find out the role of structure and morphology of the oxide films on magnetic characteristics. The object of this work was to present the conditions of magnetic thin film formation with more superior magnetic property. Anodizing was carried out under various conditions, and then the anodized film were electro-deposited with Co, Ni, Fe and their alloys. Coercive force and residual magnetization in perpendicular direction increased as the pore length of anodized film increased. It was attributed to the increase of the amount of depoisted metals and the ratio of length/diameter of pores. Morphology of anodized films in phosperic acid was not similar to that of sulfuric acid, and thin films in the former solution had perpendcular magnetic anisostropy because of large diameter, irregular length and distribution of the pores. It was found that magnetic properties of the thin films, which had doubled layer of two metals, were dominated by the metal electrodeposited on the surface of the anodized oxide films.

  • Transient finite element method for analysis of moving coil needs many number of elements and much time to make calculation. Therefore, induction heating process for moving coil was simulated by traveling the position of the heating planes in this paper. In the magnetic and thermal analyses, temperature-dependent magnetic and thermal material properties were considered. Finite element program was developed and finite element results were compared with the experimental results.

  • A magnet for urban transit Maglev is designed, analyzed and experimented to evaluate and to improve its characteristic. FEM is also used to calculate magnetic field density, magnetic force, leakage flux and losses. Seven cases of magnets are analyzed and tested for verifying the calculated characteristics and for optimizing the shape. Using the results, an improved levitation magnet is proposed for the vehicle.

  • Electro-magnetic fields and static magnetic fields generated from diverse home/environmental sources have been reported that these could make harmful effects on the human health such as suppression of immunity and tumorigenesis. However, the mechanisms for the biologic effects of electro-magnetic fields or static magnetic fields are still remained unclear. In this study, we examined the in vitro effects of static magnetic fields (SMF) on murine peritoneal macrophages. The cells were exposed in vitro to SMF of $150{\sim}250$ or $350{\sim}450$ G in 5% $CO_2$-incubator. The phagocytic activity of murine peritoneal macrophages was inhibited under exposure to SMF. In order to provide a more complete picture of molecular mechanism for the biological effect of SMF, we compared the levels of total proteins from macrophages with or without exposure to SMF using quantitative proteomic analysis. Proteins which were differentially expressed in macrophages exposed to SMF compared with non-exposed macrophages, were identified. Among them, the levels of trypsinogen 16, lactose-binding lectin Mac-2, galactoside-binding lectin, actin-like (Put. ${\beta}-actin$, vimentin) and electron transferring flavoprotein beta polypeptide were enhanced under exposure to SMF. These results suggest that SMF can affect the phagocytic activity of macrophages via diverse mechanisms.
