The optical coupling characteristics of $K^{+}$ and $Ag^{+}$ ion-exchanged waveguide ($K^{+}$$Ag^{+}$ 이온교환 도파로의 광결합 특성)

  • In this paper, we investigated the optical coupling characteristics for $K^{+}$ ion-exchanged diffused channel waveguide by using coupled-mode equations. In this case, the optical-power-dividing was observed at the waveguide-type optical coupler with 3[$\mu\textrm{m}$] line-width and, 6[$\mu\textrm{m}$] separation between channel waveguides in which interaction lengths were 1 and 3[mm], respectively, On the basis of that we deformed simulation for $Ag^{+}$ ion-exchanged diffused channel waveguide. As a result of simulation, the optical-power-dividing was shown at the waveguide-type optical coupler wish 3[$\mu\textrm{m}$] line-width, 6[$\mu\textrm{m}$] separation between channel waveguides and 0.11[mm] interaction length.

Study on Contact Resistance on the Performance of Oxide Thin Film Transistors (산화물 박막 트랜지스터 동작에 대한 접촉 저항의 영향)

  • The TFTs have been fabricated with 3 different geometry SID electrodes which have the same channel W/L ratio (W/L = 5) due to constant channel resistance, The 3 samples have different channel widths (350, 150, and 25 ${\mu}m$) and channel lengths (70, 30, and 5 ${\mu}m$) by fixed channel W/L ratio simultaneously on one chip for reliable comparisons. Resultant on-current and field effect mobility are proportional to the channel width, while the subthreshold swing is inversely proportional to the channel width mainly due to the change of contact resistance. These results show that the contact resistance strongly affects the device performances and should be considered in the applications.

  • The spectral and temporal characteristics of a V-groove AIGaAs-GaAs quantum wire (QWR) laser were investigated with varying the cavity length. At cavity lengths shorter than 300 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$, a discrete shift in tile wavelength occurred from the n=1 to the n=2 subband due to the increased cavity losses. Utilizing this characteristic, ultrafast lasing characteristics at each subband were investigated by tile gain switching method.

  • This paper was applied space harmonic method as a characteristic analysis technique for slotless PMLSM. There is advantages of active response to the change of design parameters as well as reduction of the calculation time. The method can be overcome disadvantages of finite element analysis that needs long times calculation, repetitions of pre and post-process. In this paper, 3D-space harmonic method was applied to consider the precise description of end turn coil shape and the changes of characteristic according to changes of length of z-axis direction. The thrust of optimal design was performed using genetic algorithm to enhance the thrust which is the disadvantage of slotless type PMLSM. For design parameters, width of permanent magnet, width of coil, width of coil inner and lengths of z-axis direction were selected. For objective functions. thrust per weight. thrust per volume. multi-objective function was selected.

  • In this paper, a dual-band antenna aimed for a mobile communication repeater was designed and measured. The operating frequency ranges are GSM(870${\sim}$960 MHz) and WCDMA(1920${\sim}$2170 MHz) bands. Experimental and numerical studies are performed for various design variables such as slot lengths. Using two meandering slots in the ground plane, we can obtain two higher resonant frequencies significantly with broader bandwidths. The measured maximum gain of antenna is 2 dBi in the GSM band and 2.45 dBi in the WCDMA band.

  • A ground electrode subjected to lightning surge current shows the transient impedance behaviors. The ground electrode for protection against lightning should be evaluated in view of the transient grounding impedance and conventional grounding impedance, not ground resistance. The transient impedance characteristics of ground electrodes are influenced by the shape of ground electrode and the soil characteristics, as well as the waveform of lightning surge current. In order to propose a simulation method of analyzing the transient impedance characteristics of the grounding system in practical use, this paper suggests a theoretical analysis method of distributed parameter circuit model to simulate the transient impedance characteristics of counterpoise subjected to lightning surge current. EMTP and Matlab programs were employed to compute the transient grounding impedances of three counterpoises with different lengths. As a consequence, the simulated results using the proposed distributed parameter circuit model are in good agreement with the measured results.

  • The PWM inverter drive my cause motor terminals voltage surge and oscillation(ringing), which impose severe electric stresses on inter-turn insulation of motor windings. This paper describes the technique used to simulate the problems associated with the use of PWM ASD's(Adjustable Speed Drive) to drive induction motor. The characteristic of switching surge was analyzed by EMTP(Electromagnetic transient program) model. The effects of switching surge by surge impedance, rise-time and cable lengths are also discussed.

Threshold-based Filtering Buffer Management Scheme in a Shared Buffer Packet Switch

  • In this paper, an efficient threshold-based filtering (TF) buffer management scheme is proposed. The TF is capable of minimizing the overall loss performance and improving the fairness of buffer usage in a shared buffer packet switch. The TF consists of two mechanisms. One mechanism is to classify the output ports as sctive or inactive by comparing their queue lengths with a dedicated buffer allocation factor. The other mechanism is to filter the arrival packets of inactive output ports when the total queue length exceeds a threshold value. A theoretical queuing model of TF is formulated and resolved for the overall packet loss probability. Computer simulations are used to compare the overall loss performance of TF, dynamic threshold (DT), static threshold (ST) and pushout (PO). We find that TF scheme is more robust against dynamic traffic variations than DT and ST. Also, although the over-all loss performance between TF and PO are close to each other, the implementation of TF is much simpler than the PO.

  • This paper reviews the energy characteristics of oil filled cables in transient state such as grounding fault and lightning surge. Artificial grounding fault test was firstly performed in 2003 for the analysis of arc voltage and breakdown energy according to the fault current. In this paper, energy of OF cable is variously analysed at joint box based on the actual test. Then more various conditions such as installation types, section lengths and CCPU(Cable Covering Protection Unit) connection types are applied for the simulation using EMTP when the single line to ground fault and direct lightning stroke are occurred on actual underground power cable systems and combined power cable systems, respectively. Finally, the energy by the length of crossbonded lead and grounding lead as well as fault lasting time is also calculated using EMTP simulation.

Characteristics of poly 3C-SiC micro resonators with doping concentrations (도핑농도에 따른 다결정 3C-SiC 마이크로 공진기의 특성)

  • This paper describes the characteristics of poly 3C-SiC micro resonators with $3{\times}10^{17}{\sim}1{\times}10^{19}cm^{-3}$ doping concentrations. The 1.2 ${\mu}m$ thick cantilever and the 0.4 ${\mu}m$ thick doubly clamped beam resonators with different lengths were fabricated using poly 3C-SiC thin films. The characteristics of poly 3C-SiC micro resonators were evaluated by quartz and a laser vibrometer in vacuum at room temperature. The resonant frequencies of micro resonators decreased with doping concentrations owing to reduction in the Young's modulus of poly 3C-SiC thin films. It was confirmed that the resonant frequencies of poly 3C-SiC resonators are controllable by doping concentrations. Therefore, poly 3C-SiC resonators could be applied to MEMS devices and bio/chemical sensor applications.
