Development of Maintenance Information System for Electric Multiple Unit (도시철도 차량 유지보수 정보화시스템 개발)

  • Urban transit operation corporations perform repetitive work to investigate the EMU, electric multiple unit, by some fixed maintenance cycle. The quality of maintenance work usually depends on workers' know-how. Though some information to support the maintenance work is digitalized and provided to workers, it is not great help to them because of its non systematic structure. The information includes drawings, manuals, work results, work history, fault history, etc. The maintenance workers want to access the information anytime anywhere, and make an effect to promote the efficiency of maintenance for EMU. But it is difficult to achieve that without some structured information system which is able to use in work area. So we develop maintenance information system for EMU for about 4 years from 2002 to 2005. In this paper we present the configuration and characteristics of this system, and the results of the evaluation test. We install the system in two depots, Changdong and Jichuk, belonged to SeoulMetro to evaluate its efficiency and estimate its economic benefits.

Analysis on the Crashworthiness of the Full Rake Korean Electric Multiple Unit Train (한국형 표준전동차 전체차량의 충돌안전도 해석 연구)

  • In this paper, numerically evaluated is the crashworthiness of the new design of the standard Korea Electric Multiple Unit Train(K-EMU)[developed by the Korea Railway Research Institute]. The 4-car consist of K-EMU is analyzed under collision conditions such as normal coupling, heavy shunting, light collision and heavy collision to collide against another stationary one at 5 kph, 10 kph, 25 kph and 32 kph, respectively. Energy absorbing capacity of its draftgear commercially available in the market and to be equipped in K-EMU is evaluated under each collision condition. Analytical results show that draftgear only is not enough to provide necessary energy absorbing capacity. It is therefore concluded that additional energy absorbers like mechanical fuses should be adopted to improve the crashworthiness of K-EMU.

  • An electric multiple unit(EMU) consists of car body, bogie and brake equipment which is directly related to safety and performance of the motorcar. The blending brake mixed an electric brake and a friction brake is to reduce the energy by applying the restoration energy caused when the motorcar is stopped to car lines and to curtail the maintenance cost by saving the friction brake use. We have developed the advanced EMU since 2004, based on the experiences on the standard EMU in 1999, and we develop the installation which minimizes the use rate of the friction air brake by maximizing the electric brake use in the existing blending brake. We could accomplish the goal by improving the motorcar's Performance and solving the restoration energy's deficit by the friction brake. Actually, when it comes to the test results of standard EMU, except the service brake, in most conditions, we use electric brake to meet the requirements of the necessary brake power, exclusive when the motorcar leaves and stops. Therefore, in this paper, we consider the design concept of motorcar's blending brakes and suggest the way to develop the blending brake using the electric brake maximumly, which is caused by adequately controling the electric brake and the restoration brake.

  • From '1994 Gwacheon accident of the Electric Multiple Unit(EMU)' till '2004 Seoul subway 2 lines Guui station accident', the accident is increasing at day and the service demand of the citizen is coming to be various. But it does not deal with technical or operation side demands. There is a possibility of saying that the accident of the EMU or deficit operation is caused by the RCM. The EMU where the efficiency is good though does the time passes and it becomes old anger and does not display that efficiency not only the cause of formation accident does becomes. The breakdown about under occurring before getting up an accident, appropriately shifting the parts is to a maintenance very the pending question fact which is important is a possibility of doing. From there is by an EMU, RCM in reliability base grudge is a tool of confirms an improvement point and the place where it judges. From the research which it sees will present about technical development plan of RCM.

Harmonics Measurement of the Running Test EMU Train in Conventional Railway Lines (일반철도선로에서의 전동차 시험운행에 대한 고조파 측정연구)

  • The electric quality of train is represented by voltage and current harmonics at PT(Ratio 25,000/15/[V]) which is located between pantograph and primary winding of train transformer. In this paper, voltage and current harmonics were measured on the test EMU(electric multiple unit)train with maximum speed of 180km/h in existing railway lines(chungbuk, Taeback, Honam). As a results of test, it is found that the electric quality of train depends on the mostly operation conditions which is accelerating mode and braking mode on each sections. Voltage THD is above all 3[%] and current harmonics is monitored from lowest Harmonic to highest Harmonic in case of accelerating mode. But, highest current harmonics is not monitored in case of breaking mode. The results in this paper can help to stabilize the power device and power converter of the test EMU train.

  • Regenerative Energy Storage System(ESS) is a system that saves regenerative energy which generated instantly in the regenerative braking of Electric Multiple Unit(EMU) and disappear, and reuse the stored energy when EMU is in powering. Such system related to a research field of renewable energy which emerged concerning climate change and high oil prices. In the case of existing domestic rolling stock, about 25% to 30% of generated regenerative energy is restored to power source and is regarded as direct factor of raising catenary voltage. Such rapid change of catenary voltage is a cause of the failure of EMU's electronic equipment and lowering its reliability and is also a cause of train's fault occurred by tripping circuit breaker. In this paper, we intend to investigate the effect on blending characteristics of electric-braking and pneumatic-braking whether the regenerative energy storage system is used or not in urban transit DC 1,500V feeding system, while trains run. And we also intend to investigate its effect on stabilization of the blending, fluctuation of catenary voltage and various electric equipments.

  • This paper is to suggest reliability modeling and analysis method of Electric Multiple Unit (EMU). It is necessary to identify subsystem/equipments of EMU and functional interfaces between subsystems in order to carry out reliability modeling of EMU properly. After identifying subsystem/equipments and functional interface, reliability allocation is performed using ARINC method. Reliability target of system/subsystems is verified in revenue service during the proper periods.

  • The "standard regulation" of the vehicles from "urban transit law" are being adopted to electric multiple unit in domestic. In the standard regulation, there are two types for EMU. One is heavy EMU for Seoul. The other is large EMU for Pusan, Daegu, Gwangju, Daejeon, Incheon. Korea Railroad Research Institute, with the assistance of the Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs, "advanced EMU development project" are progressed, and 6th year started at September, one unit to six cars is completed. Now "urban transit vehicle performance tests are on the current progress. The main characteristics of AUTS(Advanced Urban Transit System) are as follows. One inverter control one motor, DDM(Dircet Drive Motor), no driving gear, plug door and steps, mounting and maintenance costs down, passenger convenience improvement. This paper describes the key features the next generation EMU, and performance test results, and the commercial success method of national R&D business.
