  • This work presents a study on development of a practical and quantitative technique for assessment of the healthy state of a structure by piezoelectric impedance-based technique associated with longitudinal wave propagation measuring method. A truss structure embedded with piezoelectric patches is investigated for a fundamental study on estimation of the looseness of bolts in the joint.   • The maximum allowable value of loop impedance($Z_s$) to secure the operation of overcurrent protective devices and the safety for indirect contact is a very important in TN-C-S system. The loop impedance is divided into inner loop impedance which consumer can adjust and external loop impedance($Z_e$) which only electric operator can adjust. Thus, an external loop impedance which limits to less than a certain value is a very important factor for human body protection against electric shock in TN-C-S system. The concept of loop impedance($Z_s$) is recently introduced to the domestic, the study about external loop impedance is yet insufficient. However, the study about the reference impedance as specified by the IEC 60725 standard to improve the quality and reliability of the power supply is being made. In this paper, reference value of external loop impedance($Z_e$) to meet domestic environment will be proposed by the nationwide measurement and statistical analysis.

  • There are electric double layer capacitance, polarization resistance and solution resistance in the interface between electrode and solution. Electrode process could be evaluated by the electrical impedance analysis. The necessities of the electrochemical cell analysis with high speed impedance analyzer are followings: minimization of the effects of electric stimulation on electrochemical cell and the concentration of reactive materials, and optimization of impedance signal resolution. This paper represents the design criteria for the selection and stimulation to develop fast impedance analyzer prototype for a electrochemical cell. It was suggested that the design of 470k sample/s sampling rate, 13 bit ABC resolution, and 140ms recording time is required for high speed impedance analysis system in frequency range between dc and 10kHz.

  • In this paper, the radiative electric field intensity due to the communication signal and conductive noise is calculated in overhead medium voltage power lines for power line communication. The input impedance is calculated by means of 2 port equivalent model of medium voltage power line network and basic transmission line theory. And then, currents is calculated by calculated input impedance and finally, the emissive electric field is calculated. The input impedance appears like a standing wave form with a fixed cycle because high reflection at the input terminal due to the characteristic impedance of medium voltage power line is very large. A calculated current and radiative electric field also appears like this form. From the measurement results, the measured results are very similar to the calculated results.

  • To analyze the effectiveness of the resistive leakage current monitoring as a technology preventing electrical accidents, in this paper, we have estimated the phase of the body impedance by using the body impedance model and the body impedance data from IEC. We also have analyzed the phase of the electric body current in the case of 60Hz/220V. From these results, we concluded that deliberate researches about the phase of the electrical body current and related regulations must be carried out before the resistive leakage current monitoring unit is used to protect electric shock. And we concluded that the resistive leakage current monitoring unit can be utilized to prevent electrical fires caused by electric leakage current without unwanted circuit break due to capacitive leakage current flowing from line filter capacitors to the earth.

  • DC distribution systems has recently taken the spotlight. Concerns over human safety and stability facility are raised in DC distribution systems. Std. IEC 60479 provides basic guidance on "the effects of shock current on human beings and livestock" for use in the establishment of electrical safety requirements and suggests an electrical impedance of the human body. This study analyzes impedance spectrums based on the electrical equivalent impedance circuit for the human body; human body impedances measured by experiments are analyzed below the fundamental frequency (60 Hz). The analysis shows that the equivalent impedance circuit for the human body should be modified at least in low-frequency range below the fundamental frequency (60 Hz). The DC residual current detection method that can classify electric shock accidents of humans and electric leakages of facilities is proposed by applying the analysis result. The detection method is verified by experiments on livestock.

  • For the continuous and exact measurement of load impedance of AC power system on the electric railway, this paper presents a method to show the load area to resistance(R)-reactance(X) plane of impedance plane. The load area is presented in terms of impedance which is in the ratio of voltage and current continuously measured and impedance plane indicates the protection area of fault locator. The proposed method is verified its reasonability by computer simulation, and using this method we will develop the power system impedance analyser which is available actual application.

  • This study investigated the evolution of electro-mechanical impedance (EMI) of piezoelectricity (PZT) sensor embedded in hydrating steel fiber reinforced mortar to determine the setting times of that. Penetration resistance test was also conducted in order to justify the valid of EMI sensing technique. As a result, the setting times of steel fiber reinforced mortar can be effectively monitored through the EMI sensing technique using PZT sensor.

Calculation of Electric Potential Rise of Horizontal Grounding Electrode Caused by Lightning Stroke Currents (뇌격전류에 의한 수평접지극의 전위상승 계산)

  • An electric potential rise of the grounding electrode developed by the lightning stroke currents should be calculated for the purpose of effective protection of electrical and electronic equipment. In this paper, the electromagnetic model was applied to calculate the harmonic impedance of grounding electrode. Also the empirical equation related to the permittivity and resistivity of soil was used. The lightning current waveforms, which are expressed by the Heidler's equation, were used in order to calculate accurately transient electric potential rises. The transient voltage was obtained by using the simulated harmonic impedance and the lightning current in frequency domain. Finally, the transient voltages of horizontal grounding electrode(10m) under lightning stroke currents were calculated by IFFT(Inverse Fast Fourier Transform).
