The time-dependent analysis of prestressed concrete bridges built adopting the incremental launching technique is presented. After summarizing the well known results derived from the elastic analysis, the problem is approached in the visco-elastic domain taking into account the effects consequent to the complex load history affecting the structure. In particular, the effects produced by prestressing applied both in the launching phase and after it and by application of imposed displacements and of delayed restraints during the launching phases are carefully investigated through a refined analytical procedure. The reliability of the proposed algorithm is tested by means of comparisons with reference cases for which exact solutions are known. A case study of general interest is then discussed in detail. This case study demonstrates that a purely elastic approach represents a too crude approximation, which is unable to describe the specific character of the problem.
In this study, the validity of the Eshelby-type model for predicting the effective Young's modulus and in-plane Poisson's ratio of the 2-dimensional perforated plate has been investigated in terms of the porosity size and its arrangement. The predicted results by the Eshelby-type model are compared with those by finite element analysis. Whenever the ratio of the porosity size to the specimen size becomes smaller than 0.07, the effective elastic constants predicted by finite element analysis are convergent regardless of the arrangement of the porosities. Under these conditions, the effective Young's moduli of the perforated plate can be predicted within the accuracy of $5\%$ by the Eshelby-type model, which overestimates and underestimates the effective Poisson's ratios by $10\%\;and\;6\%$ for the plates with periodically and non-periodically arranged porosities, respectively.
With the aim to provide an efficient platform for the elastic-plastic analysis of steel structures, reinforced concrete (RC) structures and steel-concrete composite structures, a program iFiberLUT based on the fiber model was developed within the framework of ABAQUS. This program contains an ABAQUS Fiber Generator which can automatically divide the beam and column cross sections into fiber sections, and a material library which includes several concrete and steel uniaxial material models. The range of applications of iFiberLUT is introduced and its feasibility is verified through previously reported test data of individual structural members as well as planar steel frames, RC frames and composite frames subjected to various loadings. The simulation results indicate that the developed program is able to achieve high calculation accuracy and favorable convergence within a wide range of applications.
In this study, a new constitutive model has been developed to predict the elastic behavior of plain weave textile composites, using the finite element (FE) method. The geometric conditions and basic assumptions of this model are based on the basics of a continuum theory developed for the plane curved composites. In this model, the mechanical properties of the weave region and pure matrix region is calculated separately and then imported for the FE analysis. This new constitutive model is used to implement the mechanical properties of weave region in the representative volume element (RVE). The constitutive relations are implemented as user-material subroutine code (UMAT) in ABAQUS® FE software. The results of FE analysis have been compared with experimental results and other data available in the literature. These comparisons confirmed the capability of the presented model for the prediction of effective elastic properties of plain weave fabric composites.
In the current work, a series of seismic analyses of one-storey asymmetrical reinforced concrete (R/C) framed buildings is accomplished while the effect of soil deformability on the structural response is investigated. A comparison is performed between the simplified elastic behavior of R/C elements according to the structural regulations' instructions to the possible non-linear behavior of R/C elements under actual circumstances. The target of the time history analyses is the elucidation of the Soil-Structure Interaction (SSI) effect in the seismic behavior of common R/C structures by examining the possible elastic or elastoplastic behavior of R/C sections because of the redistribution of the internal forces by employing a realistic damage index. The conclusions acquired from the presented elastic and elastoplastic analyses supply practical guidelines towards the safer design of structures.

Generally, the - life of die is limited by fatigue fracture or dimensional inaccuracy originated from wear. In this paper, to predict the fatigue life of the dissimilar materials die, the stress and stxain histories of die can be predicted by the analysis of elasto-plastic finite element neth hod and the elastic analysis of die during the process analysis of workpiece. Using heat shrink fit analysis, initial stress of the k r t die is computed. Also, the stress-life curve of die material can be obtained through experiment. With the above two facts, we propose the analysis method of predicting fatigue life in die. In the proposed model, tlz analysis of elastic-plastic finite element method for material is carried out by using ABAQUS. Surface force resulted from the contacting border of the die and workpiece is tmnsformed into the nodal force of die to implement elastic analysis. Besides, the proposed analysis model of die is applied to the one material and the dissimilar materials extrusion die.

The paper presents preliminary investigation results for the effect of the baseline correction in the acceleration excitation method on finite element seismic analysis results (such as accumulated equivalent plastic strain, equivalent plastic strain considering cyclic plasticity, von Mises effective stress, etc) of nuclear safety Class I components. For investigation, finite element elastic-plastic time-history seismic analysis is performed for a surge line including a pressurizer lower head, a pressurizer surge nozzle, a surge piping, and a hot leg surge nozzle using the Chaboche hardening model. Analysis is performed for various seismic loading methods such as acceleration excitation methods with and without the baseline correction, and a displacement excitation method. Comparing finite element analysis results, the effect of the baseline correction is investigated. As a result of the investigation, it is identified that finite element analysis results using the three methods do not show significant difference.
This paper presents an inelastic buckling behavior analysis of rectangular hollow steel tubes with geometrical imperfections under elevated temperatures. The main variables are the temperature loads, slenderness ratios, and exposure conditions at high temperatures. The material and structural properties of steels at different temperatures are based on Eurocode (EN 1993-1-2, 2005). In the elastic buckling analysis, the buckling strength decreases linearly with the exposure conditions, whereas the inelastic buckling analysis shows that the buckling strength decreases in clusters based on the exposure conditions of strong and weak axes. The buckling shape of the rectangular steel column in the elastic buckling mode, which depicts geometrical imperfection, shows a shift in the position at which bending buckling occurs when the lower section of the member is exposed to high temperatures. Furthermore, lateral torsional buckling occurs owing to cross-section deformation when the strong axial plane of the model is exposed to high temperatures. The elastic buckling analysis indicates a conservative value when the model is exposed to a relatively low temperature, whereas the inelastic buckling analysis indicates a conservative value at a certain temperature or higher. The comparative results between the inelastic buckling analysis and Eurocode 3 show that a range exists in which the buckling strength in the design equation result is overestimated at elevated temperatures, and the shapes of the buckling curves are different.

The strength design actually carries an inconsistency where the structural analysis is being viewed in terms of elastic while the design is being drawn up in terms of plastic. In this study, in order to extend the applicability of the strength design, MRFEA(Moment Redistribution Finite Element Analysis) is developed. After carrying out the application example, it is found the use of materials was reduced compared to the elastic analysis.

Honeycomb sandwich composite structures have been widely used in aircraft and military industry because of light weight and high stiffness. Accurate mechanical properties of honeycomb materials are needed for analysis of sandwich composites. In this study, theoretical formula for elastic modulus of honeycomb materials was established considering bending and axial deformations of their walls. Finite-element analysis results were compared with theoretical ones of the longitudinal and transverse moduli of honeycomb materials. Consequently, the mechanical properties of honeycomb materials could be analytically predicted.
