  • During the sea trial test, we discovered EMI(Electromagnetic Interference) between MIL-SATCOM parabolic antenna and ES(Electronic Warfare Support) omni antenna. Emitted side lobe of CW(Continuous Wave) from MIL-SATCOM raises the threshold level of ES omni antenna. Therefore detection rate of ES is decreased. To solve this problem, the path of side lobe of CW from MIL-SATCOM should be blocked using EMI shield. This paper presents the method how to calculate the size of EMI shield, material, and optimized deployment. The test of the EMI shield effect was performed on a surface ship. After installing EMI shield, EMI has been decreased significantly. This paper will provide a method how to design EMI shield and a way to verify the result.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to use meta-analysis to evaluate the variables related to depression in patients who have had a stroke. Methods: The materials of this study were based on 16 variables obtained from 26 recent studies over a span of 10 years which were selected from doctoral dissertations, master's thesis and published articles. Results: Related variables were categorized into sixteen variables and six variable groups which included general characteristics of the patients, disease characteristics, psychological state, physical function, basic needs, and social variables. Also, the classification of six defensive and three risk variables group was based on the negative or positive effect of depression. The quality of life (ES=-.79) and acceptance of disability (ES=-.64) were highly correlated with depression in terms of defensive variables. For risk variables, anxiety (ES=.66), stress (ES=.53) showed high correlation effect size among the risk variables. Conclusion: These findings showed that defensive and risk variables were related to depression among stroke patients. Psychological interventions and improvement in physical functions should be effective in decreasing depression among stroke patients.

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of the non-pharmacological intervention on depressive symptoms in the older adults with mild cognitive impairment. A total of 1,147 studies were retrieved from PubMed, CINAHL, PsycINFO, Science direct, KISS, RISS, and DBPia. Twenty-one studies which met the criteria were selected and the quality assessment was conducted independently by two investigators. The effect size of non-pharmacological intervention was estimated using Comprehensive Meta-Analysis 3.0. The overall effect size turned out to be the medium effect size (Hedges' g=-0.68, 95% CI=-1.01~-0.36). As a result of the subgroup analysis, the intervention type was statistically significant. The effect size of cognitive intervention (Hedges' g=-1.03, 95% CI=-1.43~-0.61) and multi component intervention (Hedges' g=-0.97, 95% CI=-1.63~-0.33) was greater than excise intervention (Hedges' g=-0.53, 95% CI=-1.16~0.03). This study shows that non-pharmacological intervention was also effective in reducing depressive symptoms in the older adults with mild cognitive impairment. Based on the research results, it is expected that various non-pharmacological intervention studies will be attempted to improve cognitive function and depressive symptoms of the older adults with mild cognitive impairment.

  • Purpose: This study's objective was to investigate the effects of programs that improve adolescents' body image, using a systematic review and meta-analysis. Methods: A literature search was performed in eleven electronic databases, using preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta-analysis guidelines. Population characteristics, contents of the programs, and measured outcomes were systematically reviewed from 21 selected studies. To estimate the size of the effects, meta-analysis was conducted using Comprehensive Meta-Analysis software. Results: The contents of the programs that aimed to improve body image included physical, psychological, interpersonal, and sociocultural interventions. Sixteen studies were meta-analyzed to estimate the effect size of body-image improvement programs. Results showed that the program for body-image improvement had significant effects on body satisfaction (effect size [ES] = 0.56, 95% confidence interval [CI] = 0.23 to 0.89), and body dissatisfaction (ES = - 0.15, 95% CI = - 0.23 to - 0.08). Conclusion: The program for body image improvement in adolescents includes a combination of physical, psychological, interpersonal relationship, and socio-cultural dimensions. The program that seeks to improve body image appears to be effective at increasing body satisfaction, and at reducing body dissatisfaction in adolescents. Thus, it is necessary to develop and apply multidimensional programs for adolescents to have a positive body image.

  • The purposes of this research are: to observe the related variables; to compare the effect size; and make suggestions for leadership selection by admission officer system based on the results from the observation and comparison through meta analysis. The research questions crafted in order to achieve the purpose are as follows. First, what kind of variables were discussed in the previous studies? and can these variables be classified as the categories of the existing studies? Second, how are the effect sizes of the youth leadership related variable groups? Third, how are the effect sizes of sub factors of the related variable groups? The specific results of this research are as follows. First, youth leadership related variables can be classified as demographic, organization-activities, home environment and sociopsychological variables. Second, sociopshycological variable group shows the largest effect size. Third, among the sub factors, self esteems (ES=1.3231) and degree of satisfaction for life (ES=1.1737) show two largest effect sizes. In conclusion, based on the result of the research, this research suggests an alternative for a method to select students through admission counseling leadership selection system.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the effectiveness of interventions for improving the social skills for people with schizophrenia by using method of meta-analysis. For the purpose of the study, master's theses, doctoral dissertations, and journal articles published in korea up to July, 2013 were systematically reviewed. As a result, a total of 22 studies were eligible for the inclusion criteria. The mean effect sizes and test for homogeneity of effect size(Q-statistic) were analyzed by using Comprehensive Meta-Analysis software 2.0. The main findings of the study were as follows. First, the average effect sizes for total social skill training programs were ES=0.838 of interpersonal capacity, ES=0.782 of social behavioral skills, ES=0.601 of self-assertiveness skills, and ES=0.293 of symptoms. Second, by analysing the moderate variables of the effect size for social skill training programs, 'a place of training', 'a major of trainer', 'running times' and 'sessions' were statistically significant. Based on the study results, the research and practice implications were discussed.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to explore the effect of aromatherapy on anxiety, depression, and stress. Methods:Medical and nursing literature databases were searched to identify studies comparing aromatherapy with a control group. Results: Thirty-one studies published till September 2008 were included in the analysis. Twenty-two studies showed that aromatherapy generally had positive effects on the anxiety level (ES: 0.61). Thirteen studies showed that aromatherapy has significantly decreased the depression level (ES: 0.91). Seven studies showed that aromatherapy had positive effect on the stress level (ES: 0.78). Further analysis found that aromatherapy was more effective for normal population than for patients group with anxiety and stress. On the contrary, aromatherapy was more effective for patients group than for general population with depression. Conclusion: Aromatherapy had positive effect on anxiety, depression and stress level. But there was no sufficient evidence to show the two different aromatherapy methods and two different period of aromatherapy had different effects due to small sample size and heterogeneity of sample. And it was needed to perform follow-up and further comparative studies.

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to analyze variables related to paramedic students' major satisfaction comprehensively and present development plans to improve major satisfaction. Methods: Five studies were selected for analysis. The overall average effect size, effect sizes for each related variable, and publication bias were analyzed using Comprehensive Meta-Analysis (CMA) version 2.0 (Biostat, Englewood, NJ, USA). Results: Various known variables related to major satisfaction were found to have little correlation, and paramedic students' major satisfaction were highly correlated variables, such as major commitment (ES=.781), and department adaptation (ES=.722). Conclusion: Research should be continuously conducted to examine additional variables correlated with the major satisfaction of paramedic students.
