  • Concrete structures gradually age due to deterioration of materials or excess loads and environmental factors, and their performance decreases, affecting the usability and safety of structures. Although external tension construction methods are widely used among the reinforcement methods of old bridges, it is insufficient to identify the effects and effects of reinforcement depending on the level of aging. Therefore, in this study, a four-point loading experiment was conducted on the subject with the non-reinforced and external tensioning method to confirm the reinforcement effect of the external tensioning method, assuming the aging of the structure as a reduction in the compressive strength and tensile reinforcement of concrete, to analyze the behavior of the reinforcement and confirm the reinforcement effect. As a result of the experiment, it was difficult to identify the amount of reinforcement in the extreme condition due to early elimination of the anchorage. Therefore, compliance with the regulations on anchor bolts is required when applying the external tension reinforcement method. Crack load and yield load increased depending on whether external tension was reinforced, but before the crack, the stiffness before and after reinforcement was similar, making it difficult to confirm the reinforcement effect.

  • Recently, High-Strength steel reinforcement has been studied throughout the internal and external. One of the advantages using High-Strength steel reinforcement in construction is the economic effect due to the decreasing of its quantity. Also, another good effect is the increases of workability by reason of reducing the congestion. But, realistically it is not used in nuclear power plant construction site because of the restriction of design standard. The purpose of this report secures the reliability and changes the code through the performance evaluation test of the wall using the high-strength steel reinforcement in nuclear power plant.

  • The paper reports on a study of bond strength between reduced-water-content concrete and tensile reinforcement in spliced mode. Three different diameters (12, 16 and 22 mm) of tensile steel were spliced in the constant moment zone, where there were two bars of same size in tension. For each diameter of reinforcement, a total of nine beams ($1900{\times}270{\times}180mm$) were tested, of which three beams were with no axial force (positive bending) and the other six beams were with axial force (combined bending). The splice length was selected so that bars would fail in bond, splitting the concrete cover in the splice region, before reaching the yield point. It was found that there was a considerable size effect in the experimental results, i.e., as the diameter of the reinforcement reduced the bond strength and the deflection recorded at the midspan increased significantly, whilst the stiffness of the beams reduced. It was also found for all reinforcement sizes that higher bond strength and stiffness were obtained for beams tested in combined bending than that of the beams tested in positive bending only.

  • In this paper, it is the effect of using fiber sheet (Carbon Fiber Sheet & Aramid Fiber Sheet) and Steel Plate for reinforced concrete beam, 25 specimens are tested, 16 specimens for bending capacity and the other are for shear capacity. In the case of bending testing, the kind and quantity of the reinforcement materials, the bondage and the existence of crack were selected as experimental variables. And in the case of shear testing, it is testified the effect of reinforcement with the variables of the method of reinforcement (side type and U type). As a result, using the reinforcement meterials can increase the capacity of bending stress.

  • The present experimental study addresses the structural response of reinforced concrete (RC) beams strengthened in shear. Thirteen RC beams were divided into four different sets to investigate the effect of transverse and longitudinal steel reinforcement ratios, concrete compressive strength change and orientation for installing carbon fiber-reinforced polymer (CFRP) laminates. Then, we employed a shear strengthening solution through externally bonded reinforcement in grooves (EBRIG) and externally bonded reinforcement (EBR) techniques. In this regard, rectangular beams of $200{\times}300{\times}2000mm$ dimensions were subjected to the 4-point static loading condition and their load-displacement curves, load-carrying capacity and ductility changes were compared. The results revealed that using EBRIG method, the gain percentage augmented with the increase in the longitudinal reinforcement ratio. Also, in the RC beams with stirrups, the gain in shear strength decreased as transverse reinforcement ratio increased. The results also revealed that the shear resistance obtained by the experimental tests were in acceptable agreement with the design equations. Besides, the results of this research indicated that using the EBRIG system through vertical grooves in RC beams with and without stirrups caused the energy absorption to increase about 85% and 97%, respectively, relative to the control.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the behavior characteristics of new hollow reinforced concrete (RC) bridge pier sections with triangular reinforcement details and to provide the details and reference data. Among the numerous parameters, this study concentrates on the shape of the section, the reinforcement details and the spacing of the transverse reinforcement. Additional eight column section specimens were tested under quasi-static monotonic loading. In this study, the computer program, named RCAHEST (Reinforced Concrete Analysis in Higher Evaluation System Technology), was used. A innovative confining effect model was adopted for new hollow bridge pier sections. This study documents the testing of new hollow RC bridge pier sections with triangular reinforcement details and presents conclusions based on the experimental and analytical findings.

  • An experimental study was carried out to determine pullout behavior of a new type of anchor bolt that used deformed reinforcement and a commercial adhesive. Concrete slabs and columns with about 20-MPa compressive strength were used for 136 pullout tests performed. Test variables included anchor diameter (10 mm ~ 32 mm). embedment depth (10$\Phi$ or 15$\Phi$), edge effect. and Presence of transverse reinforcement in existing concrete. In Tyre-S test. where the edge or reinforcing steel effect was not included, the anchor Pullout strengths increased with increasing anchor diameters. Anchors with 15$\Phi$ embedment depth had higher Pullout strengths than those with 100 embedment depth The largest average Pullout load of 208 kN was determined for anchors made with D25 reinforcement and with 15$\Phi$ embedment depth. In Type-E tests, where the anchors were installed close to the edge of existing concrete, there were reductions in pullout strengths when compared to those determined in Type-S tests. In Type-ER tests, influence of the reinforcement in existing concrete on the anchor pullout strengths was examined using reinforced concrete and plain concrete columns Test results indicated that existing transverse reinforcement (column ties) did not help increase the pullout strength. The overall pullout test results revealed that the new anchor bolt can develop large pullout strengths while the anchors can be made of materials that are readily available in the market.

  • In this study, laboratory pull-out tests and finite element modeling are carried out focused on the grid effects of geogrid and the analyses of friction characteristics associated with interaction behaviors of the composite reinforcement composed of geogrid with a superior function in tensile resistance and geotextile with sufficient drainage effects. In addition, drainage effects of the geotextile below geogrid are examined based on the analysis of finite difference numerical modeling. From the present investigation, it is concluded that the geosynthetic composite reinforcement in the weathered granite backfills may possibly be used to achieve effects on both a reduction of deformations and an increase of the tensile resistance, together with drainage effects due to the geotextile.
