A Study on the Applications of Renewable Energy in LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Certified School Projects - Focused on Solar and Thermal Energy - (LEED 인증 받은 학교건축사례에서 재생에너지 활용 연구 분석 - 태양광 및 태양열 에너지를 중심으로 -)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the state-of-the-art solar energy system design cases among LEED(Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certified school projects and to explore the feasibilities for their applications in domestic school design. Investigating the sold wattages in some kinds of buildings, the wattages per an educational facility is the second-largest after that per an industrial facility. That shows that our attention should be actively directed to the utilization of New and Renewable Energy in school facilities. Therefore photovoltaics systems, lighting systems and solarthermal facilities of solar energy systems were analyzed in the LEED cases. Findings demonstrate that applications of solar energy systems in K-12 educational facilities have been executed more than those in higher educational facilities. However, K-12 educational facilities and higher educational facilities by private funds are not categorized as Green Buildings by Support for Making Green Buildings Act. That fact is needed to be amended. Besides that, design developments are needed for building integrated photovoltaics systems and solarthermal facilities in domestic educational facilities.

  • The purpose of this paper is to analyze the functional changes of local educational authority policy based on the systems thinking perspective using causal loop diagrams. In the past, the main function of the local educational authority was to manage and supervise schools. Through this policy, local educational authority would be transformed into a support agency. However, this policy did not achieve the goal, was to cause confusion and require improvement. This study shows structured causes of the problem based on systems thinking. These diagrams make it possible for educational policy makers to provide ideas, although they have some complicated environment. The findings indicate that based on systems thinking in this policy can help those who related to policy decision than existing diagnosis method.

Utilization of an Educational Information System for Medical Education (의학교육에서의 교육정보시스템 활용)

  • The teaching and learning environment in medical schools is significantly different from that of other academic fields. An educational information system specifically designed for medical education could be an important solution for the unique context of medical education. In this study, the concept of the educational information system has been reviewed, and how such a system can be utilized effectively for medical education has also been explored. This paper also addresses how learning management systems for online learning could be made more effective through educational information systems. The application of flipped learning, which has been developing rapidly to improve teaching and learning, for medical education was also investigated. In conclusion, it was found that educational information systems could be a solution to various teaching and learning issues in medical schools. In particular, given that high performing students tend to enter medical schools, using educational information systems to improve the teaching and learning environment in medical school should be investigated further.

  • This paper explores the ways in which the functions of local educational authority in Korea can be analyzed by systems thinking, and puts forward some policy leverage strategies to enhance predictability of education policy effects and also to prevent unanticipated side effects arising from it. In dong so, we sketch causal diagrams to depict functional changes of local educational authority, based on before and after comparison, and attempt to derive policy intervention points to minimize unforseen reactions from the stake-holders concerned. These diagrams make it possible for educational policy-makers to capture the feedback, stocks and flows, time delays, and non-linearities they identify, although they have some limitations. This paper concludes that newly-designed functions and structures for local educational authority may be accepted by the stake-holders including teachers and unions, only if complex systems surrounding functional changes regarding local educational authority can be clearly understood and relevant policy measures can be effectively taken before the functional changes happen.

  • South Korea has long been without major earthquakes. But 317 public facilities have been damaged by Po-Hang earthquake. Among them, 103 educational facilities suffered 25.6 billion won worth of damage. This is the most damaging of public facilities. The earthquake damage was mainly centered on non-seismic retrofit educational facilities and masonry architectural wall systems installed on the outer walls of buildings. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to develop a filling material that can be applied to the non-seismic retrofit of masonry architectural wall systems installed on the outer walls of educational facilities. To achieve the objective, first, set the filling material requirements. Second, set the sequence model of experiments and prepare for the experiment. Third, after the experiment, analyze the results obtained through the experiment. Forth, the optimal filling material is selected by comparing the analyzed results with the requirements. As a results, E-S-X sample using epoxy resin were selected for the seismic retrofit of masonry architectural wall systems in educational facilities. In the future, this study can be used as a basic material for developing seismic reinforcement methods guidelines in domestic existing educational facilities.

On the Comparison of the Maritime Education System of the Advance Countries and the Development of the Educational Model for the College of Maritime Science of the KMU (각국 해기교육과정의 비교분석 및 한국해양대학교 해사대학의 교육과정 및 교과과정 개선의 기본 방향에 관한 연구)

  • In this paper, the maritime educational and training systems in different countries were compared and analyzed. The sample countries have been divided into two large groups, one of which comprising the countries adopting European maritime educational system and the other of which consisting of countries adopting American maritime educational system. From the comparison of the two educational systems, the merits and demerits of each system has been analysed. The results of the analyses show that the maritime educational institutes of the countries such as U.S.A., Japan, Korea, Taiwan, which have American maritime educational system, have more adaptability to the rapidly changing, shipping environment. In addition, it has been concluded that the college of the Maritime Science of the Korea Maritime University is required to set up a new educational model which is similar to the of the SUNY Maritime College in the U.S.A to meet the recent changes in Korean shipping industry.

  • This paper proposes a management system for the educational program of production managers on the basis of value co-creation by the learner and the instructor. The program combines an intelligent knowledge-based approach with the kaizen activity program. The program helps individuals acquire knowledge and skills to ensure the total rather than the partial optimization of processes and operations facilitating continuous improvement in the workplace. To achieve these goals, the program uses models of a learning process and a swing of enlightenment. In addition, the program is supported by a framework of academic, business people, consultants, and government officers. The program was developed using an instructional design approach. This paper discusses the process of developing and managing the educational program between 2006 and 2012 as well as the results obtained.

  • The government supports the various systems on the premise of life-long education for improving the qualification of its people and supporting the lifelong career system. These systems help the educational activities for every generation from the teens. Each government department supports the learning activities for those who are related. In addition, each government department systemizes the regular education for advancing the performance of civil servant, by obliging a self-directed system to their member as well as by reflecting this educational activities in a promotion. This style of learning is provided not only offline but also online. However, not all necessary educational contents is furnished within the department. It is sometimes necessary to cooperate with the commissioned education and a professional educational institution. This thesis suggests three model systems while comparing one another. This paper suggests three system model. The first model is e-contents open place. The second model is e-contents open place. Finally, the suggest model is mixed form.

  • The article starts with a review of system characteristic, information characteristic and personal characteristic on educational performance through educational satisfaction. This survey is intended for educatee's who take the course of KcLep. We found that all variables of system characteristic(easiness, flexibility and reliability) significantly effect the educational satisfaction. Information characteristic(timeliness, usefulness) significantly effect on educational satisfaction, but the correctness doesn't significantly effect on educational satisfaction. Personal characteristic(self-efficacy and achievement motivation) significantly effect on educational satisfaction, but the computing ability doesn't significantly effect on educational satisfaction. We found that the educational satisfaction significantly effect on the education performance.

A Model-Based Method for Information Alignment: A Case Study on Educational Standards

  • We propose a model-based method for information alignment using educational standards as a case study. Discrepancies and inconsistencies in educational standards across different states/cities hinder the retrieval and sharing of educational resources. Unlike existing educational standards alignment systems that only give binary judgments (either "aligned" or "not-aligned"), our proposed system classifies each pair of educational standard statements in one of seven levels of alignments: Strongly Fully-aligned, Weakly Fully-aligned, Partially-$aligned^{***}$, Partially-$aligned^{**}$, Partially-$aligned^*$, Poorly-aligned, and Not-aligned. Such a 7-level categorization extends the notion of binary alignment and provides a finer-grained system for comparing educational standards that can broaden categories of resource discovery and retrieval. This study continues our previous use of mathematics education as a domain, because of its generally unambiguous concepts. We adopt a materialization pattern (MP) model developed in our earlier work to represent each standard statement as a verb-phrase graph and a noun-phrase graph; we align a pair of statements using graph matching based on Bloom's Taxonomy, WordNet, and taxonomy of mathematics concepts. Our experiments on data sets of mathematics educational standards show that our proposed system can provide alignment results with a high degree of agreement with domain expert's judgments.
