  • For successful food safety education in kindergartens, enjoyable play is essential. However, Korea lacks food safety education materials that help teachers create play activity plans suited to specific situations. This study aimed to develop food safety education guideline based on the Ministry of Education's guidelines and the 2019 Revised Nuri Kindergarten Curriculum. We reviewed current guideline and conducted focus group interviews to create content aligned with these guidelines. In our research, we structured educational content on elements of 'food safety management practices', including 'hand washing habits', 'food poisoning management', and 'food labeling information'. Nutrition and early childhood education professionals designed objectives and activities suitable for 3-, 4-, and 5-year-old children. The resulting guidebook provides a comprehensive resource for planning annual, monthly, and weekly food safety education. Educational topics, content, examples of children's experiences, and related Nuri curriculum were summarized in the food safety education guidebook. Guidebooks were provided to kindergartens to facilitate the application of these activities. The guideline developed in our study will enable kindergartens to make structured plans for food safety education, ultimately contributing to children's health and the formation of safe eating habits.

  • This study was conducted to develop user interface design guidelines for those who design education software products (web sites or CD-ROM titles). To establish this guideline scheme, international standards, commercial design guidelines, and research papers were surveyed. Especially, ISO 9241 was referred as a basic model of a guideline scheme. First, the research group developed draft guidelines. After that, education software developers, designers, and a user group reviewed the draft and the draft was revised with their commentations. Five components were selected as a primary class of guideline scheme: general principle, dialogue design, user guidance, visual interface, and information presentation. Each component was divided several components as a secondary class. Finally, 45 items were selected as user interface design guidelines for the education software design.

  • In both Korea and the U.S., science education leaders and specialists insist that there is a shortage of curricula to address the new national science education guidelines in support of reform. This paper addresses development of new curricula for science education reform in the hopes of facilitating further development of guideline-based curricula. We examine Korean and U.S. thematic-based (Korean Science Field Trip at Cultural Sites Program and U.S. Graduate Teaching Fellows in K-12 Education) and project-centered (Korean Teachers for Exciting Science and U.S. Foundational Approaches in Science Teaching Program) programs. Using the criteria of rationale for curriculum, content and scope, processes of implementation, and assessment strategies, we identify the curricular components that are common across four successful secondary science programs and determine which of these components address the national guidelines. Our findings indicate that common components of these four programs meet the expectations of the science guidelines being used to revamp science education in both countries. Therefore, these programs not only engage secondary students and teachers in practicing successful science education, but also lead to successful science education practices that can be incorporated in the future development of curriculum to support secondary science reform.
