This study aimed to develop the elderly care program for seniors in rural areas and to evaluate its efficacy through pre- and post-tests. For them, this study carried out a total of 8 sessions that includes 4 aims, such as understanding rural elderly, volunteer activities, psychological help, and aids to daily living, on 36 persons over the age of 60 years in rural areas. The data was analyzed by paired t-test to 36 elderly. The results of the study are as follows. First, looking at changes in knowledge about aging, objective evaluation of knowledge showed significant differences (t=-2.22, p<.05), but evaluation of elderly's perception-change didn't show significant differences between before and after. Second, volunteer attitude didn't show significant differences between before and after, but after the training, 75% of them answered 'yes' to question that asked whether they'd like to participate in elderly's volunteer caring activity for other elderly within the town in the future, which gave us certain expectation that the attitude towards volunteer activities might change positively in the future. Third, objective evaluation of knowledge for psychological help didn't show significant differences between before and after. But elderly's subjective perception showed significant differences (t=-2.82, p<.01). Fourth, evaluating changes in knowledge for elderly's aiding daily life, both the objective evaluation and subjective evaluation didn't show significant differences between before and after. Fifth, satisfaction of the program showed high scores over 4 points: contents, education methods, education place, education time. The most helpful topics for them were counseling (27.8%) and dementia (27.8%), followed by elderly and aging (16.7%), elderly's residential environment (13.9%), elderly's dietary life (9.3%) and volunteer activities (5.6%).

Methods: A subset of 584 cases in the fourth Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey was used for secondary analysis. Chi square test was used to compare chronic diseases prevalence by general characteristics and health promotion behaviors. Logistic regression analysis was used to identify the factors associated with chronic diseases. Results: Gender, occupation, subjective health status, smoking, and alcohol drinking have significant association with chronic diseases. Conclusions: Gender-specific health education for the elderly should be implemented at the health center, and opportunities for social participation can be enhanced through job creation for the elderly. Active campaigns on smoking cessation and moderate drinking are needed to prevent and manage chronic diseases of the elderly.
The purpose of this study is to examine the Baby Boom Generation's participation intention for and needs on the elderly education. The results of this study are as follows : First, 67.4% of the respondents have not experienced life-long education because the respondents have no time to learn. Second, the positive agreement of the participation intention is 64.3% because the elderly people want to cope with the social changes themselves. Third, the respondents want to have the need for the elderly education by taking a class about health education with the method of practical training in a welfare organization. In conclusion, as showed the survey research, the elderly have highly participation intention about elderly education, so this study indicates that the high quality programs of elderly education should develop and provide.

The purpose of this study is to propose a health improvement education program for the majority of elderly people who could not work due to health issues. This study focused on the fact that employment has a positive influence on the health outcomes of the elderly. The paper compares the health outcomes of employed elderly versus that of the unemployed, and suggests directions for future lifelong education programs related to health for the unemployed elders. The study results show more positive health outcomes for employed elders in terms of nutrition status and ability to perform daily tasks. Furthermore, their cognitive ability was more active (orientation, peripheral concentration, awareness of daily life) and their overall quality of life. Therefore, the study aims to develop health outcomes in the unemployed elderly population through safety education, improving health habits, performance improvement education via cognitive activation and socializing, and to secure the professionalism of lifelong education programs for the elderly which is currently only seen as a leisure activity. The object of the proposed program in this study is to maintain health by providing opportunities employment - a core component of successful aging - and relevant social interaction. This will greatly improve the quality of life of the elderly and provide a basis for widening the social role of elderly people in the future.

Purpose: The purposes of this study were to develop an elderly care nursing education program and evaluate its effect on knowledge, attitudes and nursing performance of nurses toward older adults. Methods: A quasi-experimental study with a non-equivalent control group pretest-posttest design was used. Participants were recruited from two geriatric hospitals. The sample consisted of an intervention group (n=29) that participated in the educational program and a control group (n=30). The data were collected prior to and 6 weeks after the intervention using self-administered questionnaires. Data analyses utilized $x^2$-test, Fisher's exact probability test, and t-test. Results: After the intervention, knowledge and nursing performance about the elderly care increased significantly in the experimental group compared to the control group. However, there was no statistically significant difference between the groups in their attitudes toward the elderly. Conclusion: Findings indicate that to provide better nursing care to the elderly, nurses need to be able to practically apply the knowledge they have acquired from the elder-care nursing education programs in hands-on situations. To achieve this, nurses should work to change their personal attitudes about the elderly. Also, evidence-based guidelines for elderly nursing care, administrative support of institutions, and multidisciplinary approaches are required.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of denture care skills education program on denture self-care, denture satisfaction and subjective oral status among the elderly. Methods: The research design for this study was a non-equivalent control group quasi-experimental design. Total 61 elderly who visited a seniors center, Seoul, Korea, participated in this study. Participants were 31 elderly for the experimental group and 30 elderly for the control group. The experimental group received a lesson in denture care skills education program which was developed by the researchers. Using a structural questionnaire, the elderly's perception about denture self-care, denture satisfaction and subjective oral status were measured before and after the intervention. Descriptive statistics, independent t-test, chi-square test, and ANCOVA test were performed using SPSS WIN 21.0. Results: The experimental group showed significantly higher scores in denture satisfaction(p<.001), QOL of oral health(<.001), concern for oral health(p=.005), subjective oral health status(p<.001), bad breath(p=.010), oral dryness(p<.001) and number of denture clearing(p<.001). Conclusion: The results suggest that the denture care skills education program for elderly at a senior center was effective. Further work is required to develop more effective denture care skills education programs and an oral health promotion program to improve the health status of the elderly.

The purpose of this study is to examine demographic characteristics, psychological characteristics and patterns of supportive relationships with their children that affect the successful lives of the elderly. A survey was conducted of 410 people aged between 65 and 85, and 405 samples were used for the analysis. First, the supportive relation between the elderly and their children was categorized into four groups depending on the total amount and direction of support. The four groups consisted of the elderly who exchanged little or no support, those who only received support from their children, those who only gave support, and those who both gave and received support. Second, the more the elderly exchanged support and gave emotional support to their children, the better the chance that the elderly would lead a successful life in later years. Third, subjective health conditions most significantly affected the successful lives of the elderly who exchanged little or no support. The level of education was most significant for the elderly who only received support. The level of housing satisfaction mostly affected the elderly who only gave support. Mutual support primarily affected the elderly who both gave and received. Thus, we should provide health programs for the elderly who exchange little or no support to encourage a healthier lifestyle. In addition, opportunities for continuing education should be provided for the elderly who only receive support to make up any deficiency in education. Because spouses are mostly affected for those elderly who exchange little or no support and the elderly who only receive support, we should provide educational programs about how to be better lifetime companions to each other and also provide medical and in-home care for the remaining spouse even after the other partner is gone. Because housing satisfaction greatly affects the elderly who only give support, improvements in the residential environment are essential. Since the level of mutual support is crucial to the elderly who both give and receive support, programs on the development of human resources are needed for the elderly to interact dynamically and intimately with their children.
