  • In this paper, we propose a method of edge detection for noisy image. The proposed method uses a progressive filter for noise reduction and a Sobel operator for edge detection. The progressive filter combines a median filter and a modified rational filter. The proposed method for noise reduction adjusts rational filter direction according to an edge in the image which is obtained by median filtering. Our method effectively attenuates the noise while preserving the image details. Edge detection is performed by a Sobel operator. This operator can be implemented by integer operation and is therefore relatively fast. Our proposed method not only preserves edge, but also reduces noise in uniform region. Thus, edge detection is well performed. Our proposed method could improve results using further developed Sobel operator. Experimental results show that our proposed method has better edge detection with correct positions than those by existing median and rational filtering methods for noisy image.

  • Edge detection is the first step and very important step in image analysis. In this paper, proposed edge detection operators based on informations of edge types and it is different from other classical edge detection operators such as gradient and surface fitting operators. The first, we defined characteristics of edge types such as localization, thinness, length. The second, we defined valid edge types and ideal edge pixel positions in $3\times3$window based on edge characteristics of edge types. And we proposed edge detection algorithm and twelve windows based on valid edge types. In specially, proposed algorithm was shown better performence of edge detection than other operators such as gradient operator and the LoG(Laplacian of Gaussian) operator of zero crossings.

  • After detecting the edge which is applying the morphological operators to the hybrid FCNN, we could analyze and compare. The hybrid FCNN is completely removed to the noise in the image, and worked in order to obtain the result image which is closest to the original image. Also, the morphological operator is applied to the image as the method in order to detect more good the edge than the conventional edge. FCNN which is the pipeline type is completely suitable to detecting the image processing as well as the hardware size. In this paper. we would make the structure elements of the morphological operator the variable template and the static template, and compare with the edge enhancement of two images. After being the result which is applying the variable template morphological operator and the static template morphological operator to the image, we could know that the edge images applying the variable template is superior in a edge enhancement side.

  • An implementation of modified stereo matching using efficient belief propagation (BP) algorithm is presented in this paper. We do recommend the use of the simple sobel, prewitt edge operator. The application of B band sobel edge operator over image demonstrates result with somewhat noisy (distinct border). When we adopt the only MRF + BP algorithm, however, borders cannot be distinguished due to that the message functions in the BP algorithm is just the mechanism which passes energy data to the only large gap of each Message functions In order to address the abovementioned disadvantageous phenomenon, we use the sobel edge operator + MRF + BP algorithm to distinguish the border that is located between the similar message data. Using edge information, the result shows that our proposed process diminishes the propagation of wrong probabilistic information. The enhanced result is due to that our proposed method effectively reduced errors incurred by ambiguous scene properties.

  • This paper presents a method to evaluate the performance of subpixel localization operators using target image data. Subpixel localization of edges is important to extract the precise shape of objects from images. In this study, each target image was designed to provide reference lines and edges to which the localization operators can be applied. We selected two types of moment-based operators: Gray-level Moment (GM) operator and Spatial Moment (SM) operator for comparison. The original edge localization operators with kernel size 5 are tested and their extended versions with kernel size 7 are also tested. Target images were collected with varying Camera-to-Object Distance (COD). From the target images, reference lines are estimated and edge profiles along the estimated reference lines are accumulated. Then, evaluation of the performance of edge localization operators was performed by comparing the locations calculated by each operator and by superimposing them on edge profiles. Also, enhancement of edge localization by increasing the kernel size was also quantified. The experimental result shows that the SM operator whose kernel size is 7 provides higher accuracy than other operators implemented in this study.

  • The edges of an image hold much of the information in that image. The edges tell where objects are, their shape and size, and something about their texture. An edge is where the intensity of an image moves from a low value to a high value. We introduce the edge detection using the differential operator with Sobel operator and describe a nonparametric Wilcoxon test based on statistical hypothesis testing for the detection of edges. This paper proposes an efficient edge detection using Van der Waerden's statistic in original and noisy images. We use the threshold determined by specifying significance level a and an edge-height parameter. Comparison with our statistical test and Sobel operator shows that Van der Waerden method perform more effectively in both noisy and noise-free images.

  • Scene text extraction is important because it offers some important information on different image based applications pouring in current smart generation. Edge-Enhanced MSER(Maximally Stable Extremal Regions) which enhances the boundaries using the canny operator after extracting the basic MSER shows excellent performance in terms of text extraction. But according to setting the threshold of the canny operator, the result images using Edge-Enhanced MSER are different, so there needs a method figuring out the threshold. In this paper, we propose a AEMSER(Adaptive Edge-enhanced MSER) that applies the method extracting the boundary using the middle value of histogram to Edge-Enhanced MSER to get the canny operator's threshold. The proposed method can acquire better result images than the existing methods because it extracts the area only for the obvious boundaries.

  • This paper discusses an approach for detecting a new edge in color images. The color image is to be represented by a vector field, and the color image edges are detected as differences in the local vector statistics. This method is based on the calculation for the vector angle between two adjacent pixels. Unlike Euclidean distance in RGB space, the vector angle distinguishes the differences in chromaticity, independent of luminance or intensity. The proposed approach can easily accommodate concepts, such as variable template edge detection, as well as the latest developments in vector order statistics for color image processing. In this paper, it is used not a conventional fixed template operator but a variable template operator The variable template is implemented and experimental results for digital color images are included.

  • In this paper, we examine the statistical characteristics of edge enhancing filters and their efficacy as preprocessing operator before edge detection. In particular, edge enhancing filters called the Comparison and Selection(CS), Hachimura-kuwahara(HK), and Selective Average(SA) filters are considered. These filters can reduce noise while producing step-type edges, thus seem to be effective for preprocessing noisy images prior to applying edge detecors. The ability of edge enhancing filters to suppress white Gaussian noise and the error probabilities occured during the edge detection following SA prefiltering are evaluated statistically through numerical analysis. The effect of prefiltering on edge detection is assessed by applying the edge enhancing fitters to a noise image degraded by additive white noise prior to applying the Sobel operator and the Laplacian of Gaussian( LoG ) operator, respectively. It is shown that the edge enhancing filters tend to produce ideal step-type edges while reducing the noise reasonably well, and the use of edge enhancing filters prior to edge detection can improve the performance of subsequent edge detector.

  • Edge detection considers the important technical details of digital image processing. Many edge detection operators already perform edge detection in digital color imaging. In this study, the edge of many real color images that represent the type of digital image was detected using a new operator in the least square approximation method, which is a type of numerical method. The Linear Fitting algorithm is computationally more expensive compared to the Canny, LoG, Sobel, Prewitt, HIS, Fuzzy, Parametric, Synthetic and Vector methods, and Robert' operators. The results showed that the new method can detect an edge in a digital color image with high efficiency compared to standard methods used for edge detection. In addition, the suggested operator is very useful for detecting the edge in a digital color image.
