가스터빈 로터 재질에 따른 표면결함 와전류 특성연구 (The Study on Eddy Current Characteristic for Surface Defect of Gas Turbine Rotor Material)

  • This paper introduces the eddy current signal characteristic of magnetic and non-magnetic gas turbine rotor. In the past, Magnetic particle inspection method was used in magnetic material for qualitative defect evaluation and the ultrasonic test method was used for quantitative evaluation. Nowadays, eddy current method is used in magnetic gas turbine rotor inspection due to advanced sensor design technology. We are studying on the magnetic gas turbine rotor by using eddy current method. We prepared diverse depth specimens made by magnetic and non-magnetic materials. We select optimum frequency according to material standard penetration data and experiment results. We got the signal on magnetic and non-magnetic material about 0.2 mm, 05 mm, 1.0 mm, 1.5 mm 2.0 mm and 2.5 mm depth defects and compare the signal amplitude and signal trend according to defect depth and frequency. The results show that signal amplitudes of magnetic are bigger than non-magnetic material and the trends are similar on every defect depth and frequency. The detection and resolution capabilities of eddy current are more effective in magnetic material than in non-magnetic materials. So, the eddy current method is effective inspection method on magnetic gas turbine rotor. And it has the merits of time saving and simple procedure by elimination of the ultrasonic inspection in traditional inspection method.

  • 배열 와전류 기술은 2차원적으로 나란히 정열된 다수의 와전류 코일로 구성된 탐촉자 면적에 대하여 기계적인 이동없이 전기적으로 주사할 수 있다. 단일 코일을 사용하는 와전류 기술과 비교하여 탐촉자가 한 번의 이동으로 넓은 영역을 검사할 뿐만 아니라 데이터 해석이 용이하여 검사 속도와 신뢰성을 향상시키는 장점이 있다. 이번 연구에서는 $2{\times}16$ 코일 배열의 배열 와전류 탐촉자와 순차적으로 송수신 코일을 선택하고 송수신 모드로 동작시키는 다중화기기를 개발하였다. 이 탐촉자를 이용하여 다양한 종류의 시편을 제작하여 표면검사를 수행하고, 와전류 신호 및 C-scan을 이미지 분석을 통해 송수신 모드 배열 와전류 기술의 특성에 대해 연구하였다.

  • Recently, there has been an increasing interest in the non-contact power transmission method of magnetic gears. Since there is no mechanical contact, noise caused by friction can be reduced, and even if a sudden large force is applied, the impact of the gear is close to zero. Further, since the power is transmitted by the magnetic flux, it has high reliability. However, there is a problem that a loss due to a magnetic field due to use of a magnetic flux. The loss caused by the magnetic field of the magnetic gear is a joule loss called eddy current loss. In addition, the eddy current loss in the magnetic gear largely occurs in the permanent magnet, but it is a fatal loss to the permanent magnet which is vulnerable to heat. Particularly, magnetic gears requiring high torque density use NdFeB series permanent magnets, and this permanent magnets have a characteristic in which the magnetic force decreases as temperature increases. Therefore, in this paper, the eddy current loss of the permanent magnet according to the permanent magnet attaching method is analyzed in order to reduce the eddy current loss of the permanent magnet. We have proposed a structure that can reduce the eddy current loss through the analysis and show the effect of reducing the loss of the proposed structure.

Numerical Experiment on the Ulleung Eddy due to the Variation of the Tsushima Current in the East Sea

  • In order to understand the generation mechanism of the Ulleung Eddy, we carried out a series of numerical experiments using the nonlinear 11/2 - layer model allowing the inflow of the Tsushima Current. According to our numerical results, the Ulleung Eddy was generated due to the inflow variations of the Tsushima Current. Its inflow through the Korea Strait was deflected to the east due to the Coriolis force and the nonlinear self advection. Thus, an anticyclonic motion was formed at the north of the Korea Strait. The inflow became a coastal boundary current, and finally flowed out model ocean through the eastern exit. When the speed of inflow decreased slowly, the eddy- like motion at the north of the Korea Strait changed into an enclosed anticyclonic eddy of about 200 km in diameter. The Ulleung Eddy became circular shape due to the nonlinear self advection, then changed into elliptical shape in meridional direction because of the blocking effect of the western boundary.

  • Application of eddy current sensing principle for the non-contact estimation of very low concentration of electrolytic solution is presented in this paper. for this application, a new, simple, low-cost, low-power structure for the eddy current sensor is proposed. By measuring the eddy current produced in the conducting electrolytic solution, the concentration is estimated. Therefore, the unknown concentration can be estimated comparing with the database which is prepared as the relation between the change in inductance and various concentrations of electrolytic solution. The concentration, as low as l ppm of the solutioin can be detected by this sensor. It was tested on various low concentration solutions of NaCl. It shows distinct response for various concentrations.

  • The spin valve tunneling magnetoresistance (SV-TMR) sensor performance is analyzed using Stoner-Wohlfarth model for the detection of eddy current signals in nondestructive testing applications. The SV-TMR response in terms of the applied AC magnetic field dominantly generates the second harmonic amplitude in hard axis direction. The second harmonic eddy current signal detection using SV-TMR sensor shows higher performance than that of the coil sensor at lower frequencies. The SV-TMR sensor with high sensitivity gives a good solution to improve the low frequency performance in comparison with the inductive coil sensors. Therefore, the low frequency eddy current techniques based on SV-TMR sensors are specially useful in the detection of hidden defects, and it can be applied to detect the deeply embedded flaws or discontinuities in the conductive materials.

  • Eddy current sensor is representative instrument measuring gap to base metal and sensing trouble in base metal. The existing eddy current sensor works as measuring variance of sensor coil's inductance. But, sensor coil have phenomenon that not only inductance but also real resistance varies in real action. Conductivity and Permeability are main variable in sensor coil's varying impedance(inductance, real resistance). By searching relationship between conductivity-permeability and sensor coil's impedance, eddy current sensor gain advantage of elevation of accuracy, removal of alignment to each base metal, and continuous sensing to varying base metal.

  • Internal corrosion of the distribution line can be detected in order to develop techniques of non-destructive inspection methods that operate only on the metal track eddy current diagnosis is possible by applying the technique investigated. Sensor for the production of a finite element method modeled by using an eddy current sensor, a distribution line by using an accelerated aging samples of sodium hydroxide was prepared. Sheathed cables for internal corrosion studies detected using an eddy current sensor is considered to be possible.

  • Study of an accurate and robust braking control method is required as a technical improvement to the servo system. In particular, the braker exhibiting constant braking performance under speed variation conditions of the prime mover needs to be investigated. In this paper, the braking torque of the eddy current braker between the electromagnet stator and rotating disk is analyzed. The torque-speed characteristics and accurate disk construction are represented. From the computer simulation results, it was found that eddy current braking torque is linear or approximately constant over the desired speed range depending on the rotor material, disk construction, pole number and pole displacement of the stator. These relations are confirmed by experimental results.

  • The eddy current brake system is one of important application of eddy current. It is adequate to obtain safe braking force in high speed transportation system and electric vehicle etc. There is a variety of configurations and materials used in manufacturing of eddy current brakes. This paper proposes the eddy current brakes which uses permanent magnet. The dynamic characteristic has been analyzed to FEM and compared with measured data.
